And God
said
unto Jacob, Arise,
go up to Bethel,
and dwell there:
and make there
an altar
unto God,
that appeared
unto thee
when
thou fleddest from the face
of Esau thy brother.
Then Jacob
said
unto his household,
and
to all
that were with him,
Put
away the strange gods
that are among you,
and be clean,
and change
your garments:
And let us arise,
and go
up to Bethel;
and I
will make
there an altar
unto God,
who answered me
in the day
of my distress,
and was with me
in the way which
I went.
And he said,
Draw not nigh hither:
put off thy shoes from
off thy feet,
for the place
whereon
thou standest
is holy ground.
Moreover he said,
I am
the God
of thy father,
the God
of Abraham,
the God of Isaac,
and the God
of Jacob.
And Moses
hid his face;
for he
was afraid
to look
upon God.
And afterward Moses
and Aaron went in,
and told Pharaoh,
Thus
saith
the LORD God
of Israel,
Let my people go,
that they
may hold
a feast
unto me
in the wilderness.
The LORD
is my strength
and song,
and
he is become
my salvation:
he is my God,
and
I will prepare him
an habitation;
my father's God,
and
I will exalt him.
And the LORD
said
unto Moses,
Go unto the people,
and sanctify them
to day
and to morrow,
and let them
wash their clothes,
And be ready
against the third day:
for the third day
the LORD
will come down
in the sight
of all
the people
upon mount Sinai.
And
thou shalt set
bounds
unto the people round about,
saying,
Take heed
to yourselves,
that ye
go not up
into the mount,
or touch
the border of it:
whosoever
toucheth
the mount
shall be surely put
to death:
There shall not
an hand touch it,
but
he shall surely be stoned,
or shot through;
whether it
be beast
or man,
it shall not live:
when the trumpet
soundeth long,
they shall come up to
the mount.
And the LORD
said
unto Moses, Go down,
charge the people,
lest
they break through
unto the LORD
to gaze,
and many
of them perish.
And let
the priests also,
which come near
to the LORD,
sanctify themselves,
lest the LORD
break forth upon them.
And Moses
said
unto the LORD,
The people
cannot come up to
mount Sinai:
for thou
chargedst us,
saying,
Set bounds
about the mount,
and sanctify it.
And the LORD
said unto him,
Away,
get thee down,
and
thou
shalt come up,
thou,
and Aaron
with thee:
but let not
the priests
and the people
break through to
come up
unto the LORD,
lest
he break forth upon them.
An altar of earth
thou
shalt make unto me,
and shalt sacrifice thereon
thy burnt
offerings,
and thy peace offerings,
thy sheep,
and thine oxen:
in all places
where I
record my name
I will come
unto thee,
and
I will bless thee.
And
if thou
wilt make me
an altar
of stone,
thou shalt not build
it of hewn stone:
for if
thou lift
up thy tool
upon it,
thou hast polluted it.
Three items
in the year all
thy males
shall appear
before the LORD God.
Thou shalt not offer
the blood
of my sacrifice
with leavened bread;
neither shall
the fat
of my sacrifice
remain until
the morning.
And he
said
unto Moses,
Come up
unto the LORD,
thou,
and Aaron, Nadab,
and Abihu,
and seventy
of the elders
of Israel;
and worship
ye afar off.
And Moses alone
shall come
near the LORD:
but
they shall not come nigh;
neither shall
the people
go up with him.
And let them
make me
a sanctuary;
that I
may dwell among them.
And
there
I will meet
with thee,
and
I will commune
with thee
from above
the mercy seat,
from between the two cherubims
which are upon the ark
of the testimony,
of all things
which I
will give thee
in commandment
unto the children
of Israel.
A golden bell
and a pomegranate,
a golden bell
and a pomegranate,
upon the hem
of the robe round about.
And it
shall be
upon Aaron
to minister:
and his sound
shall be heard
when
he goeth in unto the holy place
before the LORD,
and
when
he cometh out,
that he
die not.
And
there
I will meet
with the children
of Israel,
and the tabernacle
shall be sanctified
by my glory.
For Aaron
and his sons
shall wash
their hands
and their feet thereat:
When
they go
into the tabernacle
of the congregation,
they shall wash
with water,
that they
die not;
or when
they come near
to the altar
to minister,
to burn
offering
made
by fire
unto the LORD:
So they
shall wash
their hands
and their feet,
that they
die not:
and it
shall be
a statute
for ever to them,
even to him and
to his seed
throughout their generations.
And Moses made haste,
and bowed
his head
toward the earth,
and worshipped.
Then Moses
said
unto Aaron,
This
is
it that
the LORD spake,
saying,
I will be sanctified
in them that come nigh me,
and before all
the people
I will be glorified.
And Aaron
held his peace.
And the LORD
said
unto Moses,
Speak
unto Aaron thy brother,
that he come not
at all times
into the holy place
within the vail
before the mercy seat,
which is upon the ark;
that he
die not:
for I will appear
in the cloud
upon the mercy seat.
But unto the place
which the LORD your God
shall choose
out of all your tribes
to put
his name there,
even unto his habitation
shall
ye seek,
and thither
thou shalt come:
And thither
ye shall bring
your burnt offerings,
and your sacrifices,
and your tithes,
and heave offerings
of your hand,
and your vows,
and your freewill offerings,
and the firstlings
of your herds
and of your flocks:
And there
ye shall eat
before the LORD
your God,
and
ye shall rejoice
in all
that
ye put
your hand unto,
ye and your households,
wherein the LORD
thy God
hath blessed thee.
Then there shall be
a place
which the LORD your God
shall choose
to cause
his name
to dwell there;
thither
shall
ye bring all that
I command you;
your burnt offerings,
and your sacrifices,
your tithes,
and the heave
offering
of your hand,
and all
your choice
vows
which ye
vow
unto the LORD:
And
ye shall rejoice
before the LORD
your God,
ye,
and your sons,
and your daughters,
and your menservants,
and your maidservants,
and the Levite
that is
within your gates;
forasmuch as he
hath
no part
nor inheritance
with you.
But at the place
which the LORD thy God
shall choose
to place his name in,
there
thou shalt sacrifice
the passover
at even,
at the going down
of the sun,
at the season
that thou
camest forth out of Egypt.
And
thou shalt roast
and eat it
in the place
which the LORD thy God
shall choose:
and
thou shalt turn in
the morning,
and go
unto thy tents.
Six days
thou shalt eat
unleavened bread:
and on the seventh day
shall be a solemn
assembly to the LORD thy God:
thou shalt do
no work therein.
When
all Israel
is come
to appear before the LORD
thy God
in the place
which he
shall choose,
thou shalt read
this law
before all Israel
in their hearing.
Gather the people
together,
men and women,
and children,
and thy stranger
that is
within thy gates,
that they
may hear,
and that
they may learn,
and fear
the LORD your God,
and observe
to do all the words
of this law:
And
that their children,
which have not known
any thing,
may hear,
and learn
to fear the LORD
your God,
as long as ye
live in the land
whither
ye go over Jordan
to possess it.
They shall call the people
unto the mountain;
there
they shall offer
sacrifices
of righteousness:
for they
shall suck of the abundance
of the seas,
and of treasures
hid in the sand.
But the LORD,
who brought
you up
out of the land
of Egypt
with great power
and a stretched out arm,
him shall
ye fear,
and him
shall
ye worship,
and to him
shall
ye do sacrifice.
Give
unto the LORD the glory due
unto his name:
bring an offering,
and come
before him:
worship the LORD
in the beauty
of holiness.
It came even
to pass,
as the trumpeters
and singers
were as one,
to make
one sound
to be heard
in praising
and thanking
the LORD;
and
when they
lifted
up their voice
with the trumpets
and cymbals
and instruments
of musick,
and praised
the LORD,
saying,
For he
is good;
for his mercy
endureth for ever:
that then the house
was filled
with a cloud,
even the house
of the LORD;
So that
the priests
could not stand
to minister
by reason
of the cloud:
for the glory
of the LORD
had filled
the house
of God.
Now
when Solomon
had made
an end
of praying,
the fire
came down
from heaven,
and consumed
the burnt
offering
and the sacrifices;
and
the glory
of the LORD
filled the house.
Then
the priests the Levites
arose
and blessed
the people:
and their voice
was heard,
and their prayer
came up to
his holy dwelling place,
even unto heaven.
And
when the builders
laid
the foundation
of the temple
of the LORD,
they set the priests
in their apparel
with trumpets,
and the Levites
the sons
of Asaph
with cymbals,
to praise the LORD,
after the ordinance
of David king
of Israel.
And
they sang together
by course
in praising
and giving
thanks
unto the LORD;
because
he is good,
for his mercy
endureth for
ever toward Israel.
And all
the people
shouted
with a great shout,
when
they praised
the LORD,
because the foundation
of the house
of the LORD
was laid.
But many
of the priests
and Levites
and chief
of the fathers,
who were ancient men,
that had seen
the first house,
when
the foundation
of this house
was laid
before their eyes,
wept
with a loud voice;
and many shouted aloud
for joy:
So that
the people
could not discern
the noise
of the shout
of joy
from the noise
of the weeping
of the people:
for the people
shouted
with a loud shout,
and the noise
was heard afar off.
For the children
of Israel
and the children
of Levi
shall bring
the offering
of the corn,
of the new wine,
and the oil,
unto the chambers,
where are the vessels
of the sanctuary,
and the priests
that minister,
and the porters,
and the singers:
and
we will not forsake
the house
of our God.
But as for me,
I will come
into thy
house
in the multitude
of thy mercy:
and in thy
fear
will
I worship toward
thy holy temple.
I will declare
thy name
unto my brethren:
in the midst
of the congregation
will
I praise thee.
Who shall ascend
into the hill
of the LORD?
or who
shall stand
in his holy place?
He that
hath clean hands,
and a pure heart;
who hath not lifted
up his soul
unto vanity,
nor sworn deceitfully.
He shall receive the blessing
from the LORD,
and righteousness
from the God
of his salvation.
This is
the generation
of them that
seek him,
that seek
thy face,
O Jacob.
Selah.
I will wash
mine
hands in innocency:
so will
I compass
thine altar,
O LORD:
That I
may publish with the voice
of thanksgiving,
and tell
of all
thy wondrous works.
LORD,
I have loved
the habitation
of thy house,
and the place
where thine honour dwelleth.
One thing
have
I desired
of the LORD,
that will
I seek after;
that I
may dwell
in the house
of the LORD all
the days
of my life,
to behold the beauty
of the LORD,
and to enquire
in his temple.
Give
unto the LORD the glory due
unto his name;
worship the LORD
in the beauty
of holiness.
I will give thee thanks
in the great congregation:
I will praise thee
among much people.
They
shall be abundantly satisfied
with the fatness
of thy house;
and
thou shalt make them
drink
of the river
of thy pleasures.
When
I remember
these things,
I pour
out my soul in me:
for I
had gone
with the multitude,
I went with them
to the house
of God,
with the voice
of joy
and praise,
with a multitude
that kept
holyday.
So shall
the king
greatly desire
thy beauty:
for he
is thy Lord;
and worship
thou him.
We have thought
of thy lovingkindness,
O God,
in the midst
of thy temple.
Then shalt thou
be pleased
with the sacrifices
of righteousness,
with burnt
offering
and whole burnt offering:
then shall
they offer bullocks
upon thine altar.
We took sweet counsel
together,
and walked
unto the house
of God
in company.
O God,
thou art
my God;
early
will
I seek thee:
my soul
thirsteth
for thee,
my flesh
longeth for thee
in a dry
and thirsty land,
where no water is;
To see
thy power
and thy glory,
so as I
have seen thee
in the sanctuary.
Blessed is the man whom
thou choosest,
and causest
to approach
unto thee,
that he
may dwell
in thy courts:
we shall be satisfied
with the goodness
of thy house,
even of thy holy temple.
All the earth
shall worship thee,
and shall sing
unto thee;
they
shall sing to thy name.
Selah.
I will go
into thy
house
with burnt offerings:
I will pay
thee my vows,
Which my lips
have uttered,
and my mouth
hath spoken,
when
I was in trouble.
Vow,
and pay
unto the LORD your God:
let all
that be round
about him bring
presents unto him that
ought to be feared.
Thy way,
O God,
is in the sanctuary:
who is so great
a God
as our God?
How amiable
are thy tabernacles,
O LORD
of hosts!
My soul longeth,
yea,
even fainteth
for the courts
of the LORD:
my heart
and my flesh
crieth out
for the living God.
Yea,
the sparrow
hath found
an house,
and the swallow
a nest
for herself,
where she
may lay
her young,
even thine altars,
O LORD of hosts,
my King,
and my God.
Blessed
are
they that
dwell
in thy house:
they will be still praising thee.
Selah.
For a day
in thy
courts
is better
than a thousand.
I had
rather be
a doorkeeper
in the house
of my God,
than
to dwell
in the tents
of wickedness.
God is greatly
to be feared
in the assembly of the saints,
and
to be had
in reverence
of all
them that
are about him.
Those that
be planted
in the house
of the LORD
shall flourish
in the courts
of our God.
Thy testimonies
are very sure:
holiness
becometh
thine house,
O LORD,
for ever.
O come,
let us
worship
and bow down:
let us
kneel
before the LORD our maker.
Give
unto the LORD the glory due
unto his name:
bring an offering,
and come
into his courts.
O worship the LORD
in the beauty
of holiness:
fear before him,
all the earth.
Confounded
be all
they that serve
graven images,
that boast themselves
of idols:
worship him,
all ye gods.
The LORD
hath made
known his salvation:
his righteousness
hath
he openly shewed
in the sight
of the heathen.
He hath remembered
his mercy
and his truth
toward the house
of Israel:
all
the ends
of the earth
have seen the salvation
of our God.
Exalt
ye the LORD
our God,
and worship
at his footstool;
for he
is holy.
Make a joyful noise
unto the LORD,
all ye lands.
Serve the LORD
with gladness:
come
before his presence
with singing.
Know
ye that
the LORD
he is God:
it is
he that
hath made us,
and not
we ourselves;
we are his people,
and the sheep
of his pasture.
Enter
into his gates
with thanksgiving,
and
into his courts
with praise:
be thankful
unto him,
and bless
his name.
Bless the LORD,
O my soul:
and
all that is within me,
bless his holy name.
Bless the LORD,
O my soul,
and forget not all
his benefits:
Who forgiveth all
thine iniquities;
who healeth all
thy diseases;
Who redeemeth thy life
from destruction;
who crowneth thee
with lovingkindness
and tender
mercies;
Then they
cried
unto the LORD
in their trouble,
and
he delivered them
out of their
distresses.
And he
led
them forth
by the right way,
that they
might go
to a city
of habitation.
Oh that men
would praise
the LORD
for his goodness,
and
for his wonderful works
to the children
of men!
Let them
exalt him also
in the congregation
of the people,
and praise him
in the assembly of the elders.
What shall
I render
unto the LORD
for all
his benefits
toward me?
I will take the cup
of salvation,
and call
upon the name
of the LORD.
I will pay my vows
unto the LORD
now in the presence
of all his people.
I will offer
to thee
the sacrifice
of thanksgiving,
and will call
upon the name
of the LORD.
The LORD
hath chastened me sore:
but
he hath not given
me over
unto death.
Open to me
the gates
of righteousness:
I will go into them,
and
I will praise
the LORD:
Accept,
I beseech thee,
the freewill offerings
of my mouth,
O LORD,
and teach me
thy judgments.
I was glad
when
they
said unto me,
Let us
go
into the house
of the LORD.
When the LORD
turned again
the captivity
of Zion,
we were like
them that dream.
Then was
our mouth filled
with laughter,
and our tongue
with singing:
then said
they among the heathen,
The LORD
hath done great things
for them.
The LORD
hath done great things
for us;
whereof
we are glad.
We will go
into his tabernacles:
we will worship
at his footstool.
For the LORD
hath chosen Zion;
he hath desired it
for his habitation.
This is my rest
for ever:
here
will
I dwell;
for I
have desired it.
I will worship
toward thy holy temple,
and praise thy
name for thy lovingkindness
and for thy truth:
for thou
hast magnified
thy word
above all thy name.
Praise ye the LORD.
Sing
unto the LORD
a new song,
and his praise
in the congregation
of saints.
Keep thy
foot
when
thou goest
to the house
of God,
and be more ready
to hear,
than
to give the sacrifice
of fools:
for they
consider not that
they do evil.
Be not
rash with thy mouth,
and let not
thine heart
be hasty
to utter any thing
before God:
for God
is in heaven,
and
thou upon earth:
therefore let
thy words
be few.
To what
purpose
is the multitude
of your sacrifices
unto me?
saith the LORD:
I am full of
the burnt offerings
of rams,
and the fat
of fed beasts;
and
I delight not
in the blood
of bullocks,
or of lambs,
or of he goats.
When ye come
to appear before me,
who hath required this
at your hand,
to tread my courts?
Bring no more vain oblations;
incense is an abomination
unto me;
the new moons
and sabbaths,
the calling
of assemblies,
I cannot away with;
it is iniquity,
even the solemn meeting.
Your new moons
and your appointed
feasts
my soul hateth:
they are a trouble
unto me;
I am
weary
to bear them.
And
when ye spread
forth your hands,
I will hide
mine
eyes from you:
yea,
when
ye make
many prayers,
I will not hear:
your hands
are full of blood.
And many people
shall go
and say,
Come ye,
and let us
go up to
the mountain
of the LORD,
to the house
of the God
of Jacob;
and
he will teach us
of his ways,
and
we will walk
in his paths:
for out of Zion shall go
forth the law,
and the word
of the LORD
from Jerusalem.
And the LORD
will create
upon every dwelling place
of mount Zion,
and
upon her assemblies,
a cloud and smoke
by day,
and the shining
of a flaming fire
by night:
for upon all
the glory
shall be
a defence.
Sing
unto the LORD;
for he
hath done
excellent things:
this is known
in all the earth.
Cry out and shout,
thou inhabitant
of Zion:
for great
is the Holy One
of Israel
in the midst
of thee.
And it
shall be said
in that day,
Lo,
this is our God;
we have waited for him,
and
he will save us:
this is the LORD;
we have waited for him,
we will be glad
and rejoice
in his salvation.
Wherefore
the Lord said,
Forasmuch
as this people
draw near me
with their mouth,
and
with their lips
do honour me,
but have removed
their heart far
from me,
and their fear
toward me is taught
by the precept
of men:
Therefore,
behold,
I will proceed
to do a marvellous work
among this people,
even a marvellous work
and a wonder:
for the wisdom
of their wise men
shall perish,
and the understanding
of their prudent men
shall be hid.
Woe unto them that seek deep
to hide their counsel
from the LORD,
and their works
are in the dark,
and they say,
Who seeth us?
and
who knoweth us?
Surely your turning
of things upside
down shall be esteemed
as the potter's clay:
for shall
the work
say of him that
made it,
He made me not?
or shall
the thing
framed
say of him that
framed it,
He had
no understanding?
Ye shall have
a song,
as in the night
when a holy solemnity
is kept;
and gladness
of heart,
as when one
goeth with a pipe
to come
into the mountain
of the LORD,
to the mighty One
of Israel.
The LORD
was ready
to save me:
therefore we
will sing
my songs
to the stringed
instruments all
the days
of our life
in the house
of the LORD.
But
they
that wait
upon the LORD
shall renew
their strength;
they shall mount up
with wings
as eagles;
they shall run,
and not be weary;
and
they shall walk,
and not faint.
But
thou
hast not called upon me,
O Jacob;
but
thou hast been
weary of me,
O Israel.
Thou hast not brought me
the small cattle
of thy
burnt offerings;
neither hast
thou honoured me
with thy sacrifices.
I have not caused thee
to serve
with an offering,
nor wearied thee
with incense.
Thou hast bought me
no sweet cane
with money,
neither hast
thou filled me
with the fat
of thy sacrifices:
but
thou hast made me
to serve
with thy sins,
thou hast wearied me
with thine iniquities.
Sing,
O heavens;
and be joyful,
O earth;
and break forth
into singing,
O mountains:
for the LORD
hath comforted
his people,
and will have mercy
upon his afflicted.
Break forth
into joy,
sing together,
ye waste
places
of Jerusalem:
for the LORD
hath comforted
his people,
he hath redeemed
Jerusalem.
Also the sons
of the stranger,
that join themselves
to the LORD,
to serve him,
and
to love the name
of the LORD,
to be his servants,
every one that
keepeth
the sabbath
from polluting it,
and taketh
hold
of my covenant;
Even
them will
I bring
to my holy mountain,
and make them joyful
in my house
of prayer:
their burnt offerings
and their sacrifices
shall be accepted
upon mine altar;
for mine
house
shall be called an house
of prayer
for all people.
Thus saith the LORD,
The heaven
is my throne,
and the earth
is my footstool:
where is the house
that ye
build
unto me?
and
where is the place
of my rest?
For all
those things
hath
mine hand made,
and all those things
have been,
saith the LORD:
but to this man
will
I look,
even to him
that is poor and
of a contrite spirit,
and trembleth at my word.
For the LORD
hath redeemed Jacob,
and ransomed him
from the hand
of him that
was stronger
than he.
Therefore they
shall come
and sing
in the height
of Zion,
and shall flow together
to the goodness
of the LORD,
for wheat,
and for wine,
and for oil,
and for the young
of the flock
and of the herd:
and their soul
shall be
as a watered garden;
and
they shall not sorrow any more
at all.
Thou hast despised
mine holy things,
and hast profaned
my sabbaths.
For I desired mercy,
and not sacrifice;
and
the knowledge
of God
more than burnt
offerings.
Sanctify
ye a fast,
call a solemn assembly,
gather the elders
and all
the inhabitants
of the land
into the house
of the LORD your God,
and cry
unto the LORD,
Alas for the day!
for the day
of the LORD
is at hand,
and
as a destruction
from the Almighty
shall it come.
Blow the trumpet
in Zion,
sanctify a fast,
call a solemn assembly:
Gather the people,
sanctify the congregation,
assemble the elders,
gather the children,
and
those that suck
the breasts:
let the bridegroom
go forth
of his chamber,
and the bride
out of her closet.
Let the priests,
the ministers
of the LORD,
weep
between the porch
and the altar,
and let them say,
Spare thy people,
O LORD,
and give not
thine heritage
to reproach,
that the heathen
should rule over them:
wherefore should
they say
among the people,
Where is their God?
I hate,
I despise
your feast days,
and
I will not smell
in your solemn assemblies.
Though ye
offer me
burnt offerings
and your meat offerings,
I will not accept them:
neither will
I regard
the peace offerings
of your fat beasts.
Take
thou away from me the noise
of thy songs;
for I will not hear
the melody
of thy viols.
But let
judgment
run down
as waters,
and righteousness
as a mighty stream.
Behold
upon the mountains the feet
of him that
bringeth good tidings,
that publisheth peace!
O Judah,
keep thy solemn feasts,
perform thy vows:
for the wicked
shall no more pass
through thee;
he is utterly cut off.
But the LORD
is in his holy temple:
let all
the earth
keep silence
before him.
I will gather them
that are sorrowful
for the solemn assembly,
who are of thee,
to whom the reproach of it
was a burden.
Go up to
the mountain,
and bring wood,
and build
the house;
and
I will take pleasure in it,
and
I will be glorified,
saith the LORD.
And the inhabitants
of one city
shall go
to another,
saying,
Let us
go speedily
to pray
before the LORD,
and
to seek the LORD
of hosts:
I will go also.
Yea,
many people
and strong nations
shall come
to seek the LORD
of hosts
in Jerusalem,
and
to pray
before the LORD.
And it
shall come
to pass,
that every one
that is left
of all
the nations
which came
against Jerusalem
shall even go up
from year to year
to worship the King,
the LORD
of hosts,
and
to keep the feast
of tabernacles.
And it
shall be,
that whoso
will not come up
of all the families
of the earth
unto Jerusalem
to worship the King,
the LORD
of hosts,
even upon them shall be
no rain.
And
if the family
of Egypt
go not up,
and come not,
that have
no rain;
there shall be
the plague,
wherewith
the LORD
will smite
the heathen that
come not up to
keep the feast
of tabernacles.
And he
shall sit
as a refiner
and purifier
of silver:
and
he shall purify
the sons
of Levi,
and purge them
as gold
and silver,
that they
may offer
unto the LORD
an offering
in righteousness.
Then shall
the offering
of Judah
and Jerusalem
be pleasant
unto the LORD,
as in the days of old,
and
as in former years.
And Jesus
saith unto him,
See
thou tell no man;
but go thy way,
shew thyself
to the priest,
and offer
the gift that Moses commanded,
for a testimony
unto them.
Again
I say unto you,
That if two
of you
shall agree on
earth
as touching any thing
that
they shall ask,
it shall be done
for them
of my Father
which is in heaven.
For where two
or three
are gathered together
in my name,
there am
I in the midst
of them.
And Jesus
answered
and
said unto him,
Get thee
behind me, Satan:
for it
is written,
Thou
shalt worship
the Lord thy God,
and him
only shalt thou serve.
But the hour cometh,
and now is,
when the true worshippers
shall worship
the Father
in spirit
and in truth:
for the Father
seeketh such
to worship him.
God is a Spirit:
and
they that worship him
must worship him
in spirit
and in truth.
And
when the day
of Pentecost
was fully come,
they were all with one accord
in one place.
And suddenly there came
a sound
from heaven
as of a
rushing mighty wind,
and it
filled all
the house
where they
were sitting.
And there appeared
unto them cloven tongues like as
of fire,
and it
sat
upon each
of them.
God that
made
the world
and all things
therein,
seeing that
he is Lord
of heaven
and earth,
dwelleth not
in temples
made with hands;
Neither is worshipped
with men's hands,
as though
he needed any thing,
seeing
he giveth to all life,
and breath,
and all things;
Judge
in yourselves:
is it comely
that a woman
pray
unto God uncovered?
When ye come
together
therefore into one place,
this is not
to eat the Lord's supper.
For in eating
every one
taketh before other
his own supper:
and one
is hungry,
and another
is drunken.
What?
have
ye not houses
to eat
and
to drink in?
or despise
ye the church
of God,
and shame them
that have not?
What shall
I say to you?
shall
I praise you
in this?
I praise
you not.
What is it then?
I will pray
with the spirit,
and I
will pray
with the understanding also:
I will sing
with the spirit,
and I
will sing
with the understanding also.
Else when thou
shalt bless
with the spirit,
how shall
he that
occupieth
the room
of the unlearned
say Amen at thy
giving of thanks,
seeing
he understandeth not
what thou sayest?
For thou
verily givest
thanks well,
but the other
is not edified.
For we
are the circumcision,
which worship God
in the spirit,
and rejoice
in Christ Jesus,
and have no confidence
in the flesh.
I will therefore
that men
pray every where,
lifting
up holy hands,
without wrath
and doubting.
Not forsaking the assembling
of ourselves
together,
as the manner
of some is;
but exhorting one
another:
and so much
the more,
as ye
see the day approaching.
Wherefore
we receiving
a kingdom which
cannot be moved,
let us
have grace,
whereby
we may serve God
acceptably with reverence
and godly fear:
Ye also,
as lively stones,
are built up
a spiritual house,
an holy priesthood,
to offer
up spiritual sacrifices,
acceptable
to God
by Jesus Christ.
And there was given me
a reed like
unto a rod:
and the angel stood,
saying,
Rise,
and measure
the temple
of God,
and the altar,
and
them that worship
therein.
And
I saw
another angel fly
in the midst
of heaven,
having
the everlasting gospel
to preach
unto them that
dwell
on the earth,
and
to every nation,
and kindred,
and tongue,
and people,
Saying
with a loud voice,
Fear God,
and give
glory to him;
for the hour
of his judgment
is come:
and worship him
that made heaven,
and earth,
and the sea,
and the fountains
of waters.
Who shall not fear thee,
O Lord,
and glorify
thy name?
for thou only art holy:
for all nations
shall come
and worship
before thee;
for thy judgments
are made manifest.
And
I fell
at his feet
to worship him.
And
he said unto me,
See
thou do it not:
I am thy fellowservant,
and of thy brethren
that have
the testimony
of Jesus:
worship God:
for the testimony
of Jesus
is the spirit
of prophecy.
