And the LORD
said unto him,
Who hath made
man's mouth?
or who
maketh the dumb,
or deaf,
or the seeing,
or the blind?
have not I the LORD?
Now therefore go,
and I
will be
with thy mouth,
and teach thee
what
thou shalt say.
And Moses
said
unto Pharaoh,
Glory over me:
when shall
I intreat
for thee,
and for thy servants,
and for thy people,
to destroy the frogs
from thee
and thy houses,
that they
may remain
in the river only?
And he said,
To morrow.
And he said,
Be it
according to
thy word:
that thou
mayest know
that there is none like
unto the LORD our God.
And
he shall stand
before Eleazar
the priest,
who shall ask
counsel
for him
after the judgment
of Urim
before the LORD:
at his word
shall
they go out,
and at his word
they shall come in,
both he,
and all
the children
of Israel
with him,
even all
the congregation.
Behold,
I have taught
you statutes
and judgments,
even as
the LORD my God
commanded me,
that ye
should do so
in the land
whither
ye go
to possess it.
Keep therefore
and do them;
for this
is your wisdom
and your understanding
in the sight
of the nations,
which shall hear all
these statutes,
and say,
Surely
this great nation
is a wise
and understanding people.
Unto thee
it was shewed,
that thou
mightest know
that the LORD
he is God;
there is none else
beside him.
Out of heaven
he made thee
to hear
his voice,
that he
might instruct thee:
and upon earth
he shewed
thee his great fire;
and
thou heardest
his words
out of the midst
of the fire.
Yet the LORD
hath not given
you an heart
to perceive,
and eyes to see,
and ears to hear,
unto this day.
O that
they were wise,
that they
understood this,
that they
would consider
their latter end!
And the children
of Israel arose,
and went
up to the house
of God,
and asked
counsel of God,
and said,
Which
of us shall go up
first to the battle
against the children
of Benjamin?
And the LORD said,
Judah
shall go
up first.
And now,
O LORD my God,
thou hast made
thy servant king
instead of David my father:
and I
am
but a little child:
I know not
how to go out
or come in.
Give therefore
thy servant
an understanding heart
to judge thy people,
that I
may discern
between good
and bad:
for who
is able
to judge
this thy so great
a people?
Then hear
thou in heaven,
and forgive
the sin
of thy servants,
and of thy people Israel,
that thou
teach them
the good way
wherein they
should walk,
and give rain
upon thy land,
which thou
hast given
to thy people
for an inheritance.
Only the LORD
give thee wisdom
and understanding,
and give thee
charge concerning
Israel,
that thou
mayest keep the law
of the LORD thy God.
Thou gavest also
thy good spirit
to instruct them,
and withheldest not
thy manna
from their mouth,
and gavest them
water
for their thirst.
Behold,
thou hast instructed many,
and
thou hast strengthened
the weak hands.
Lo this,
we have searched it,
so it is;
hear it,
and know
thou it
for thy good.
For enquire,
I pray thee,
of the former age,
and prepare thyself
to the search
of their fathers:
Shall not
they teach thee,
and tell thee,
and utter
words
out of their heart?
But oh that God
would speak,
and open
his lips
against thee;
No doubt
but
ye are the people,
and wisdom
shall die
with you.
But I
have
understanding as well as you;
I am not inferior
to you:
yea,
who knoweth not such things
as these?
But ask now
the beasts,
and
they shall teach thee;
and the fowls
of the air,
and
they shall tell thee:
Or speak
to the earth,
and it
shall teach thee:
and the fishes
of the sea
shall declare
unto thee.
Who knoweth not
in all
these that the hand
of the LORD
hath wrought this?
In whose hand
is the soul
of every living thing,
and the breath
of all mankind.
Doth not
the ear
try words?
and the mouth
taste his meat?
With the ancient
is wisdom;
and
in length
of days understanding.
With him is wisdom
and strength,
he hath
counsel
and understanding.
With him is strength
and wisdom:
the deceived
and the deceiver
are his.
He leadeth
counsellors away spoiled,
and maketh
the judges fools.
He discovereth deep things
out of darkness,
and bringeth out
to light the shadow
of death.
Acquaint now thyself
with him,
and be at peace:
thereby good
shall come
unto thee.
Receive,
I pray thee,
the law
from his mouth,
and lay up
his words
in thine heart.
But
where shall wisdom
be found?
and
where is the place
of understanding?
Man
knoweth not
the price thereof;
neither is
it found
in the land
of the living.
The depth saith,
It is not in me:
and the sea saith,
It is not with me.
It cannot be gotten
for gold,
neither shall silver
be weighed
for the price
thereof.
It cannot be valued
with the gold
of Ophir,
with the precious onyx,
or the sapphire.
The gold
and the crystal
cannot equal it:
and the exchange of it
shall not be
for jewels
of fine gold.
No mention
shall be made
of coral,
or of pearls:
for the price
of wisdom
is above rubies.
The topaz
of Ethiopia
shall not equal it,
neither shall
it be valued
with pure gold.
Whence then
cometh wisdom?
and
where is the place
of understanding?
Seeing
it is
hid from the eyes
of all living,
and kept
close
from the fowls
of the air.
Destruction
and death say,
We have heard
the fame
thereof with our ears.
God understandeth
the way thereof,
and he
knoweth
the place thereof.
For he looketh
to the ends
of the earth,
and seeth under the whole heaven;
To make the weight
for the winds;
and he
weigheth
the waters
by measure.
When he
made
a decree
for the rain,
and a way
for the lightning
of the thunder:
Then did
he see it,
and declare it;
he prepared it,
yea,
and searched it out.
And unto man
he said,
Behold,
the fear
of the LORD,
that is wisdom;
and
to depart
from evil
is understanding.
I said,
Days should speak,
and
multitude
of years
should teach wisdom.
But there is
a spirit in man:
and
the inspiration
of the Almighty
giveth them understanding.
Great men
are not always wise:
neither do
the aged
understand judgment.
Then he
openeth
the ears
of men,
and sealeth their instruction,
That which
I see
not teach
thou me:
if I
have done iniquity,
I will do no more.
But none saith,
Where is God
my maker,
who giveth songs
in the night;
Who teacheth us more than
the beasts
of the earth,
and maketh us wiser
than the fowls
of heaven?
Behold,
God exalteth by his power:
who teacheth like him?
Who hath put wisdom
in the inward parts?
or who
hath given
understanding to the heart?
Who can number the clouds
in wisdom?
or who
can stay
the bottles
of heaven,
I have heard
of thee
by the hearing
of the ear:
but now
mine
eye seeth thee.
Be wise
now therefore,
O ye kings:
be instructed,
ye judges
of the earth.
Lead me,
O LORD,
in thy righteousness
because of mine enemies;
make thy way straight
before my face.
And they that
know thy
name
will put
their trust
in thee:
for thou,
LORD,
hast not forsaken them
that seek thee.
I will bless
the LORD,
who hath given me counsel:
my reins
also instruct me
in the night seasons.
The heavens
declare the glory
of God;
and the firmament
sheweth his handywork.
Day unto day
uttereth speech,
and night
unto night
sheweth knowledge.
Shew me thy ways,
O LORD;
teach me
thy paths.
Good and upright
is the LORD:
therefore will
he teach sinners
in the way.
The meek
will
he guide
in judgment:
and the meek
will
he teach
his way.
What man
is he
that feareth the LORD?
him shall
he teach
in the way
that
he shall choose.
The secret
of the LORD
is with them that fear him;
and
he will shew them
his covenant.
Teach me thy way,
O LORD,
and lead me
in a plain path,
because of mine enemies.
For thou
art my rock
and my fortress;
therefore for thy
name's sake
lead me,
and guide me.
I will instruct thee
and teach thee
in the way which
thou shalt go:
I will guide
thee with mine eye.
For with thee
is the fountain
of life:
in thy
light
shall
we see light.
LORD,
make me to know
mine end,
and the measure
of my days,
what it is:
that I
may know how frail
I am.
O send out thy
light
and thy truth:
let them
lead me;
let them
bring me
unto thy holy hill,
and to thy tabernacles.
Behold,
thou desirest truth
in the inward parts:
and in the hidden
part thou
shalt make me
to know wisdom.
O God,
thou hast taught me
from my youth:
and hitherto have
I declared
thy wondrous works.
In Judah
is
God known:
his name
is great
in Israel.
Teach me thy way,
O LORD;
I will walk
in thy truth:
unite my heart
to fear thy name.
So teach us
to number our days,
that we
may apply
our hearts
unto wisdom.
Blessed is the man whom
thou chastenest,
O LORD,
and teachest him
out of thy law;
Whoso is wise,
and will observe
these things,
even
they shall understand
the lovingkindness
of the LORD.
The fear
of the LORD
is the beginning
of wisdom:
a good understanding
have all
they that
do his commandments:
his praise
endureth for ever.
Unto the upright
there ariseth
light
in the darkness:
he is gracious,
and full of compassion,
and righteous.
Blessed art thou,
O LORD:
teach me
thy statutes.
Open thou
mine eyes,
that I
may behold wondrous things
out of thy law.
I am a stranger
in the earth:
hide
not thy commandments
from me.
I have declared
my ways,
and
thou heardest me:
teach me
thy statutes.
Make me
to understand the way
of thy precepts:
so shall
I talk
of thy wondrous works.
Teach me,
O LORD,
the way
of thy statutes;
and
I shall keep it
unto the end.
Give me understanding,
and
I shall keep
thy law;
yea,
I shall observe it
with my whole heart.
Teach me good judgment
and knowledge:
for I
have believed
thy commandments.
Thou art good,
and doest good;
teach me
thy statutes.
Thy hands
have made me
and fashioned me:
give me understanding,
that I
may learn
thy commandments.
Let my heart
be sound
in thy statutes;
that I
be not ashamed.
Deal with
thy servant according
unto thy mercy,
and teach me
thy statutes.
I am thy servant;
give me understanding,
that I
may know
thy testimonies.
The entrance
of thy
words
giveth light;
it giveth
understanding unto the simple.
Make
thy face to shine
upon thy servant;
and teach me
thy statutes.
The righteousness
of thy testimonies
is everlasting:
give me understanding,
and I shall live.
Let my cry
come near
before thee,
O LORD:
give me
understanding according to
thy word.
My lips
shall utter praise,
when
thou hast taught me
thy statutes.
And see
if there be
any wicked way in me,
and lead me
in the way everlasting.
A wise man
will hear,
and will increase learning;
and a man
of understanding
shall attain
unto wise counsels:
The fear
of the LORD
is the beginning
of knowledge:
but fools
despise wisdom
and instruction.
Wisdom
crieth without;
she uttereth her voice
in the streets:
She crieth in the chief place
of concourse,
in the openings
of the gates:
in the city
she uttereth her words,
saying,
How long,
ye simple ones,
will
ye love
simplicity?
and the scorners
delight
in their scorning,
and fools
hate knowledge?
Turn you
at my reproof:
behold,
I will pour
out my spirit
unto you,
I will make
known my words
unto you.
Because
I have called,
and ye refused;
I have stretched out
my hand,
and
no man regarded;
But ye
have set
at nought
all my counsel,
and would none of my reproof:
I also will laugh
at your calamity;
I will mock
when your fear cometh;
When your fear
cometh as desolation,
and your destruction
cometh as a whirlwind;
when distress
and anguish
cometh upon you.
Then shall
they
call upon me,
but
I will not answer;
they shall seek me early,
but
they shall not find me:
For that
they hated
knowledge,
and did not choose
the fear
of the LORD:
They would none of my counsel:
they despised all
my reproof.
Therefore shall
they eat
of the fruit
of their own way,
and be filled
with their own devices.
For the turning away
of the simple
shall slay them,
and the prosperity
of fools
shall destroy them.
But
whoso
hearkeneth
unto me shall dwell safely,
and shall be
quiet
from fear
of evil.
My son,
if thou
wilt receive
my words,
and hide
my commandments
with thee;
So that thou
incline thine ear
unto wisdom,
and apply
thine heart
to understanding;
Yea,
if thou
criest after knowledge,
and liftest up thy
voice
for understanding;
If thou
seekest her
as silver,
and searchest for her as
for hid treasures;
Then shalt thou
understand the fear
of the LORD,
and find
the knowledge
of God.
For the LORD
giveth wisdom:
out of his mouth
cometh knowledge
and understanding.
He layeth
up sound wisdom
for the righteous:
he is a buckler
to them that walk uprightly.
He keepeth the paths
of judgment,
and preserveth
the way
of his saints.
Then shalt thou
understand
righteousness,
and judgment,
and equity;
yea,
every good path.
When wisdom
entereth into thine heart,
and knowledge
is pleasant
unto thy soul;
Discretion shall preserve thee,
understanding shall keep thee:
To deliver thee
from the way
of the evil man,
from the man
that speaketh froward things;
Who leave
the paths
of uprightness,
to walk
in the ways
of darkness;
Who rejoice
to do evil,
and delight
in the frowardness
of the wicked;
Whose ways
are crooked,
and
they froward
in their paths:
To deliver thee
from the strange woman,
even from the stranger which
flattereth with her words;
Which forsaketh
the guide
of her youth,
and forgetteth
the covenant
of her God.
For her house
inclineth unto death,
and her paths
unto the dead.
None that
go
unto her return again,
neither take
they hold
of the paths
of life.
That thou
mayest walk
in the way
of good men,
and keep
the paths
of the righteous.
Trust in the LORD
with all thine heart;
and lean not
unto thine
own understanding.
In all thy ways
acknowledge him,
and
he shall direct
thy paths.
Happy
is
the man
that findeth wisdom,
and the man
that getteth
understanding.
For the merchandise of it
is better
than the merchandise
of silver,
and the gain
thereof
than fine gold.
She is more precious
than rubies:
and all
the things
thou canst
desire
are not
to be compared
unto her.
Length of days
is in her right hand;
and
in her left hand riches
and honour.
Her ways
are ways
of pleasantness,
and all her paths
are peace.
She is a tree
of life
to them
that lay hold
upon her:
and happy
is every one
that retaineth her.
The LORD
by wisdom
hath founded
the earth;
by understanding
hath
he established
the heavens.
By his knowledge
the depths
are broken up,
and the clouds
drop
down the dew.
My son,
let not them
depart from thine eyes:
keep sound wisdom
and discretion:
So shall
they be life
unto thy soul,
and grace
to thy neck.
Then shalt
thou walk
in thy way safely,
and thy
foot
shall not stumble.
When
thou liest down,
thou shalt not be afraid:
yea,
thou shalt lie down,
and thy
sleep
shall be sweet.
Be not afraid
of sudden fear,
neither of the desolation of the wicked,
when it cometh.
For the LORD
shall be
thy confidence,
and shall keep
thy foot
from being taken.
Surely
he scorneth the scorners:
but
he giveth
grace unto the lowly.
The wise
shall inherit glory:
but shame
shall be
the promotion
of fools.
He taught me also,
and said unto me,
Let thine heart
retain my words:
keep my commandments,
and live.
Get wisdom,
get understanding:
forget it not;
neither decline
from the words
of my mouth.
Forsake her not,
and
she shall preserve thee:
love her,
and
she shall keep thee.
Wisdom is the principal thing;
therefore get wisdom:
and with all
thy getting
get understanding.
Exalt her,
and
she shall promote thee:
she shall bring thee
to honour,
when
thou dost embrace her.
She shall give
to thine
head an ornament
of grace:
a crown of glory
shall
she deliver
to thee.
Hear,
O my son,
and receive
my sayings;
and the years
of thy life shall be many.
I have taught thee
in the way
of wisdom;
I have led thee
in right paths.
When thou goest,
thy steps
shall not be straitened;
and
when
thou runnest,
thou shalt not stumble.
Take
fast
hold
of instruction;
let her
not go:
keep her;
for she
is thy life.
But the path
of the just is
as the shining light,
that shineth
more
and more
unto the perfect day.
The way
of the wicked
is as darkness:
they know not
at what they stumble.
My son,
attend
to my words;
incline
thine ear
unto my sayings.
Let them
not depart
from thine eyes;
keep them
in the midst
of thine heart.
For they
are life
unto those that find them,
and health
to all their flesh.
And say,
How have
I hated
instruction,
and my heart
despised reproof;
Keep my commandments,
and live;
and my law
as the apple
of thine eye.
Bind them
upon thy fingers,
write them
upon the table
of thine heart.
Say unto wisdom,
Thou art my sister;
and call
understanding
thy kinswoman:
Doth not
wisdom cry?
and understanding
put forth
her voice?
She standeth in the top
of high places,
by the way
in the places
of the paths.
She crieth at the gates,
at the entry
of the city,
at the coming in
at the doors.
Unto you,
O men,
I call;
and my voice
is to the sons
of man.
O ye simple,
understand wisdom:
and,
ye fools,
be ye
of an understanding heart.
Hear;
for I
will speak
of excellent things;
and the opening
of my lips
shall be right things.
For my mouth
shall speak truth;
and wickedness
is an abomination
to my lips.
All
the words
of my mouth
are in righteousness;
there is nothing
froward
or perverse
in them.
They are all plain
to him
that understandeth,
and right
to them
that find knowledge.
Receive my instruction,
and not silver;
and knowledge
rather than choice gold.
For wisdom
is better
than rubies;
and all
the things
that may be desired
are not
to be compared to it.
I wisdom
dwell
with prudence,
and find out knowledge
of witty inventions.
The fear
of the LORD
is to hate evil:
pride,
and arrogancy,
and the evil way,
and the froward mouth,
do I hate.
Counsel is mine,
and sound wisdom:
I am understanding;
I have strength.
By me kings reign,
and princes
decree justice.
By me princes rule,
and nobles,
even all
the judges
of the earth.
I love them
that love me;
and those that
seek me early
shall find me.
Riches
and honour
are with me;
yea,
durable riches
and righteousness.
My fruit
is better
than gold,
yea,
than fine gold;
and my revenue
than choice silver.
I lead
in the way
of righteousness,
in the midst
of the paths
of judgment:
That I
may cause
those that love me
to inherit substance;
and
I will fill
their treasures.
The LORD
possessed me
in the beginning
of his way,
before his works
of old.
I was set up
from everlasting,
from the beginning,
or ever
the earth was.
When there were
no depths,
I was brought forth;
when there were
no fountains
abounding
with water.
Before the mountains
were settled,
before the hills
was
I brought forth:
While as yet
he had not made
the earth,
nor the fields,
nor the highest part
of the dust
of the world.
When
he prepared
the heavens,
I was there:
when he set
a compass
upon the face
of the depth:
When
he established
the clouds above:
when
he strengthened
the fountains
of the deep:
When he
gave to the sea
his decree,
that the waters
should not pass
his commandment:
when he
appointed
the foundations
of the earth:
Then
I was by him,
as one
brought up with him:
and
I was daily
his delight,
rejoicing always
before him;
Rejoicing
in the habitable part
of his earth;
and my delights
were with the sons
of men.
Now therefore hearken unto me,
O ye children:
for blessed
are they that
keep my ways.
Hear instruction,
and be wise,
and refuse it not.
Blessed is the man
that heareth me,
watching daily
at my gates,
waiting
at the posts
of my doors.
For whoso
findeth me
findeth life,
and shall obtain
favour
of the LORD.
But he
that sinneth against me wrongeth
his own soul:
all
they
that hate me
love death.
Wisdom
hath builded
her house,
she hath hewn
out her seven pillars:
She hath killed
her beasts;
she hath mingled
her wine;
she hath also furnished
her table.
She hath sent
forth her maidens:
she crieth upon the highest places
of the city,
Whoso is simple,
let him
turn in hither:
as for him
that wanteth
understanding,
she saith
to him,
Come,
eat of my bread,
and drink
of the wine
which I
have mingled.
Forsake the foolish,
and live;
and go in
the way
of understanding.
Give instruction
to a wise man,
and
he will be yet wiser:
teach a just man,
and
he will increase
in learning.
The fear
of the LORD
is the beginning
of wisdom:
and
the knowledge
of the holy
is understanding.
For by me thy days
shall be multiplied,
and the years
of thy life
shall be increased.
If thou
be wise,
thou shalt be wise
for thyself:
but
if thou scornest,
thou alone
shalt bear it.
The wise in heart
will receive
commandments:
but a prating
fool
shall fall.
In the lips
of him that
hath understanding wisdom
is found:
but a rod
is for the back
of him that is void
of understanding.
Wise men
lay up knowledge:
but
the mouth
of the foolish
is near destruction.
The lips
of the righteous feed many:
but fools
die
for want
of wisdom.
It is
as sport
to a fool
to do mischief:
but a man
of understanding
hath wisdom.
He that is
void of wisdom
despiseth his neighbour:
but a man
of understanding
holdeth his peace.
Whoso
loveth
instruction loveth knowledge:
but he
that
hateth
reproof is brutish.
A man
shall be commended according to
his wisdom:
but he
that is
of a perverse heart
shall be despised.
The way
of a fool
is right
in his own eyes:
but he
that hearkeneth
unto counsel
is wise.
The law
of the wise
is a fountain
of life,
to depart
from the snares
of death.
Good understanding
giveth favour:
but the way
of transgressors
is hard.
Every prudent man
dealeth with knowledge:
but a fool
layeth
open his folly.
A scorner
seeketh wisdom,
and findeth it not:
but knowledge
is easy
unto him that understandeth.
Go from the presence
of a foolish man,
when
thou perceivest not
in him the lips
of knowledge.
The wisdom
of the prudent
is to understand
his way:
but the folly
of fools is deceit.
A wise man feareth,
and departeth from evil:
but the fool rageth,
and is confident.
Wisdom resteth in the heart
of him that
hath understanding:
but that
which is in the midst
of fools is made known.
The lips
of the wise
disperse knowledge:
but
the heart
of the foolish
doeth not so.
The heart
of him that
hath
understanding seeketh knowledge:
but the mouth
of fools
feedeth on foolishness.
The fear
of the LORD
is the instruction
of wisdom;
and before honour
is humility.
How much
better
is it
to get wisdom
than gold!
and to get
understanding rather
to be chosen
than silver!
He that
handleth
a matter
wisely shall find good:
and whoso
trusteth in the LORD,
happy is he.
The wise in heart
shall be called prudent:
and the sweetness
of the lips
increaseth learning.
Understanding is
a wellspring
of life
unto him that
hath it:
but the instruction
of fools is folly.
The heart
of the wise
teacheth his mouth,
and addeth
learning
to his lips.
Pleasant words
are as an honeycomb,
sweet
to the soul,
and health
to the bones.
A reproof
entereth more
into a wise man
than
an hundred
stripes
into a fool.
Wisdom
is
before him
that hath
understanding;
but
the eyes
of a fool
are in the ends
of the earth.
The heart
of the prudent
getteth knowledge;
and
the ear
of the wise
seeketh knowledge.
He that
getteth wisdom
loveth his own soul:
he that
keepeth
understanding shall find good.
Hear counsel,
and receive
instruction,
that thou
mayest be wise
in thy latter end.
When the scorner
is punished,
the simple
is made wise:
and
when the wise
is instructed,
he receiveth knowledge.
Bow down thine ear,
and hear
the words
of the wise,
and apply
thine heart
unto my knowledge.
For it
is a pleasant thing
if thou
keep them
within thee;
they shall withal
be fitted
in thy lips.
That thy
trust
may be
in the LORD,
I have made
known
to thee this day,
even to thee.
Have not
I written
to thee excellent things
in counsels
and knowledge,
That I
might make
thee
know the certainty
of the words
of truth;
that thou
mightest answer the words
of truth to them
that send
unto thee?
Apply thine heart
unto instruction,
and thine ears
to the words
of knowledge.
Buy the truth,
and sell it not;
also wisdom,
and instruction,
and understanding.
My son,
eat thou honey,
because
it is good;
and the honeycomb,
which is sweet
to thy taste:
So shall
the knowledge
of wisdom
be unto thy soul:
when
thou hast found it,
then there shall be
a reward,
and thy expectation
shall not be cut off.
Evil men
understand not
judgment:
but they that
seek the LORD
understand all things.
Whoso
keepeth
the law
is a wise son:
but
he that is a companion
of riotous men
shameth his father.
For God
giveth to a man
that is good
in his sight wisdom,
and knowledge,
and joy:
but to the sinner
he giveth travail,
to gather and
to heap up,
that he
may give
to him
that is good
before God.
This also is vanity
and vexation
of spirit.
Who is as the wise man?
and who
knoweth
the interpretation
of a thing?
a man's wisdom
maketh his face
to shine,
and the boldness
of his face
shall be changed.
Whoso
keepeth
the commandment
shall feel
no evil thing:
and a wise man's heart
discerneth both time
and judgment.
This wisdom
have
I seen also
under the sun,
and it
seemed great
unto me:
There was
a little city,
and few men
within it;
and there came
a great king
against it,
and besieged it,
and built great bulwarks
against it:
Now there was found
in it
a poor wise man,
and
he by his wisdom
delivered
the city;
yet no man
remembered
that same poor man.
Then said I,
Wisdom
is
better
than strength:
nevertheless
the poor man's wisdom
is despised,
and his words
are not heard.
The words
of wise men
are heard
in quiet more than the cry
of him that
ruleth among fools.
Wisdom
is
better
than weapons
of war:
but one sinner
destroyeth much good.
The words
of a wise man's mouth
are gracious;
but the lips
of a fool
will swallow
up himself.
The words
of the wise
are
as goads,
and as nails
fastened
by the masters
of assemblies,
which are given
from one shepherd.
And many people
shall go
and say,
Come ye,
and let us
go up to
the mountain
of the LORD,
to the house
of the God
of Jacob;
and
he will teach us
of his ways,
and
we will walk
in his paths:
for out of Zion shall go
forth the law,
and the word
of the LORD
from Jerusalem.
And there shall come
forth a rod
out of the stem
of Jesse,
and a Branch
shall grow
out of his roots:
And
the spirit
of the LORD
shall rest upon him,
the spirit
of wisdom
and understanding,
the spirit
of counsel
and might,
the spirit
of knowledge
and of the fear
of the LORD;
And shall make him
of quick understanding
in the fear
of the LORD:
and
he shall not judge
after the sight
of his eyes,
neither reprove
after the hearing
of his ears:
They shall not hurt nor
destroy
in all my holy mountain:
for the earth
shall be full of
the knowledge
of the LORD,
as the waters
cover the sea.
They also
that erred
in spirit
shall come
to understanding,
and
they
that murmured
shall learn
doctrine.
And thine ears
shall hear
a word
behind thee,
saying,
This is the way,
walk ye in it,
when ye
turn
to the right hand,
and
when ye
turn
to the left.
And wisdom
and knowledge
shall be the stability
of thy times,
and strength
of salvation:
the fear
of the LORD
is his treasure.
I the LORD
have called thee
in righteousness,
and will hold
thine hand,
and will keep thee,
and give thee
for a covenant
of the people,
for a light
of the Gentiles;
To open the blind eyes,
to bring
out the prisoners
from the prison,
and them that sit
in darkness
out of the prison house.
And I
will bring
the blind
by a way
that
they knew not;
I will lead them
in paths that
they have not known:
I will make
darkness
light
before them,
and crooked things straight.
These things
will
I do unto them,
and not forsake them.
Thus saith the LORD,
thy Redeemer,
the Holy One
of Israel;
I am
the LORD thy God
which teacheth thee
to profit,
which leadeth thee
by the way
that thou
shouldest go.
And all
thy children
shall be taught
of the LORD;
and great
shall be the peace
of thy children.
Thus saith the LORD,
Let
not the wise man
glory
in his wisdom,
neither let
the mighty man
glory in his might,
let not
the rich man
glory
in his riches:
But let him
that glorieth
glory in this,
that he
understandeth and knoweth me,
that I
am the LORD
which exercise
lovingkindness,
judgment,
and righteousness,
in the earth:
for in these things
I delight,
saith the LORD.
And
I will give them
an heart
to know me,
that I
am the LORD:
and
they shall be
my people,
and
I will be
their God:
for they
shall return
unto me
with their whole heart.
And
they shall teach
no more every man his neighbour,
and every man
his brother,
saying,
Know the LORD:
for they
shall all know me,
from the least
of them
unto the greatest
of them,
saith the LORD:
for I
will forgive
their iniquity,
and
I will remember
their sin no more.
As for these four children,
God gave them knowledge
and skill
in all learning
and wisdom:
and Daniel
had
understanding in all visions
and dreams.
Daniel
answered
and said,
Blessed
be
the name
of God
for ever
and ever:
for wisdom
and might
are his:
And he
changeth
the times
and the seasons:
he removeth kings,
and setteth up kings:
he giveth wisdom
unto the wise,
and knowledge
to them
that know
understanding:
He revealeth
the deep
and secret things:
he knoweth what
is in the darkness,
and the light
dwelleth with him.
I thank thee,
and praise thee,
O thou God
of my fathers,
who hast given me wisdom
and might,
and hast made
known unto me now
what we
desired
of thee:
for thou
hast now made
known unto us the king's matter.
And such as do wickedly
against the covenant
shall
he corrupt
by flatteries:
but the people that
do know their God
shall be strong,
and do exploits.
And
they that
understand
among the people
shall instruct many:
yet
they shall fall
by the sword,
and by flame,
by captivity,
and by spoil,
many days.
And
they that
be wise
shall shine
as the brightness
of the firmament;
and
they that turn many
to righteousness
as the stars
for ever and ever.
But thou,
O Daniel,
shut
up the words,
and seal
the book,
even to the time
of the end:
many shall run
to and fro,
and knowledge
shall be increased.
Then shall
we know,
if we
follow on
to know the LORD:
his going
forth is prepared
as the morning;
and he
shall come
unto us
as the rain,
as the latter
and former rain
unto the earth.
For I desired mercy,
and not sacrifice;
and
the knowledge
of God
more than burnt
offerings.
Who is wise,
and
he shall understand
these things?
prudent,
and
he shall know them?
for the ways
of the LORD
are right,
and the just shall walk
in them:
but the transgressors
shall fall therein.
The light
of the body
is the eye:
if therefore
thine eye
be single,
thy whole body
shall be
full of light.
But if thine
eye
be evil,
thy whole body
shall be
full of darkness.
If therefore
the light
that is in thee
be darkness,
how great
is that darkness!
Therefore whosoever
heareth these sayings
of mine,
and doeth them,
I will liken him
unto a wise man,
which built
his house
upon a rock:
And the rain descended,
and the floods came,
and the winds blew,
and beat
upon that house;
and it
fell not:
for it
was founded
upon a rock.
The Son of man
came
eating and drinking,
and they say,
Behold a man gluttonous,
and a winebibber,
a friend
of publicans
and sinners.
But wisdom
is justified
of her children.
At that time Jesus
answered
and said,
I thank thee,
O Father,
Lord
of heaven
and earth,
because
thou hast
hid these things
from the wise
and prudent,
and hast revealed them
unto babes.
Even so,
Father:
for so
it seemed good
in thy sight.
All things
are delivered
unto me
of my Father:
and no man
knoweth the Son,
but the Father;
neither knoweth any man
the Father,
save the Son,
and
he to whomsoever
the Son
will reveal him.
He answered
and
said unto them,
Because it
is given
unto you
to know the mysteries
of the kingdom
of heaven,
but to them
it is not given.
And Simon Peter
answered
and said,
Thou art the Christ,
the Son
of the living God.
And Jesus
answered
and
said unto him,
Blessed art thou,
Simon Barjona:
for flesh
and blood
hath not revealed it
unto thee,
but my Father
which is in heaven.
Then shall
the kingdom
of heaven
be likened
unto ten virgins,
which took their lamps,
and went forth
to meet the bridegroom.
And five
of them were wise,
and five
were foolish.
They that
were foolish
took their lamps,
and took
no oil with them:
But the wise
took
oil
in their vessels
with their lamps.
While the bridegroom tarried,
they all slumbered
and slept.
And at midnight
there was
a cry made,
Behold,
the bridegroom cometh;
go ye
out to meet him.
Then all those virgins arose,
and trimmed
their lamps.
And the foolish said
unto the wise,
Give us
of your oil;
for our lamps
are gone out.
But the wise answered,
saying,
Not so;
lest there be not enough
for us and you:
but go
ye rather to them
that sell,
and buy
for yourselves.
And
while they
went to buy,
the bridegroom came;
and they
that were ready
went in with him
to the marriage:
and the door
was shut.
Afterward came also
the other virgins,
saying,
Lord, Lord,
open to us.
But he
answered
and said,
Verily I
say unto you,
I know
you not.
Watch therefore,
for ye
know
neither the day
nor the hour
wherein the Son
of man cometh.
And the scribe
said unto him,
Well, Master,
thou hast said
the truth:
for there is one God;
and there is none other
but he:
And
to love him
with all the heart,
and
with all
the understanding,
and
with all the soul,
and
with all the strength,
and
to love his neighbour
as himself,
is more than all
whole burnt offerings
and sacrifices.
And
when Jesus
saw that
he answered discreetly,
he said unto him,
Thou art not far
from the kingdom
of God.
And no man
after that durst
ask him
any question.
And he
shall go
before him
in the spirit
and power
of Elias,
to turn the hearts
of the fathers
to the children,
and the disobedient
to the wisdom
of the just;
to make ready
a people
prepared
for the Lord.
And thou,
child,
shalt be called
the prophet
of the Highest:
for thou
shalt go
before the face
of the Lord
to prepare his ways;
To give knowledge
of salvation
unto his people
by the remission
of their sins,
Through the tender mercy
of our God;
whereby the dayspring from
on high
hath visited us,
To give
light to them
that sit
in darkness
and in the shadow
of death,
to guide our feet
into the way
of peace.
And
when
they bring you
unto the synagogues,
and
unto magistrates,
and powers,
take
ye no
thought how
or
what thing
ye shall answer,
or what
ye shall say:
For the Holy Ghost
shall teach you
in the same hour
what
ye ought to say.
For I
will give
you a mouth
and wisdom,
which all
your adversaries
shall not be able
to gainsay nor resist.
And
they said one
to another,
Did
not our heart burn
within us,
while he
talked
with us
by the way,
and
while he
opened
to us the scriptures?
Then opened
he their understanding,
that they
might understand
the scriptures,
In the beginning
was the Word,
and the Word
was with God,
and the Word
was God.
And the light
shineth in darkness;
and the darkness
comprehended it not.
The same
came
for a witness,
to bear
witness
of the Light,
that all men
through him might believe.
He was not
that Light,
but was sent
to bear
witness of that Light.
That was the true Light,
which lighteth
every man
that cometh into the world.
For the law
was given
by Moses,
but grace
and truth
came
by Jesus Christ.
It is written
in the prophets,
And
they shall be all taught
of God.
Every man
therefore that
hath heard,
and hath learned
of the Father,
cometh unto me.
If any man
will do his will,
he shall know
of the doctrine,
whether it
be of God,
or whether
I speak
of myself.
Then spake Jesus
again unto them,
saying,
I am the light
of the world:
he that
followeth me
shall not walk
in darkness,
but shall have
the light
of life.
Then said
Jesus to those Jews
which believed on him, If
ye continue
in my word,
then are
ye my disciples indeed;
And
ye shall know
the truth,
and the truth
shall make you free.
As long
as I am in the world,
I am the light
of the world.
And Jesus said,
For judgment
I am come
into this world,
that they
which see
not might see;
and
that they
which see
might be made blind.
And
when
he putteth forth his own sheep,
he goeth
before them,
and the sheep
follow him:
for they
know his voice.
I am the good shepherd,
and know
my sheep,
and am known
of mine.
I am come
a light
into the world,
that whosoever believeth
on me should not abide in
darkness.
If ye
had known me,
ye should have known
my Father also:
and from henceforth
ye know him,
and have seen him.
Howbeit when he,
the Spirit
of truth,
is come,
he will guide you
into all truth:
for he
shall not speak
of himself;
but whatsoever
he shall hear,
that shall
he speak:
and he
will shew
you things
to come.
He shall glorify me:
for he
shall receive
of mine,
and shall shew
it unto you.
And this
is life eternal,
that they
might know thee
the only true God,
and Jesus Christ,
whom
thou hast sent.
I have manifested thy
name
unto the men
which thou
gavest me
out of the world:
thine
they were,
and
thou gavest them me;
and they
have kept thy word.
Now
they have known
that all things
whatsoever
thou hast given me
are of thee.
For I
have given
unto them the words which
thou gavest me;
and
they have received them,
and have known surely
that I
came out
from thee,
and
they have believed that
thou didst send me.
O righteous Father,
the world
hath not known thee:
but
I have known thee,
and these
have known that
thou hast sent me.
And
I have declared
unto them thy name,
and will declare it:
that the love
wherewith
thou hast loved me
may be in them,
and I in them.
Pilate
therefore said unto him,
Art
thou a king then?
Jesus answered,
Thou
sayest
that I
am a king.
To this end
was I born,
and
for this cause
came
I into the world,
that I
should bear
witness
unto the truth.
Every one
that is
of the truth heareth my voice.
And
they were not able
to resist
the wisdom
and the spirit
by which he spake.
Because
that
which may be known
of God
is manifest in them;
for God
hath shewed it
unto them.
For the invisible things
of him
from the creation
of the world
are clearly seen,
being understood
by the things
that are made,
even his eternal power
and Godhead;
so that
they are without excuse:
And I myself
also am persuaded
of you,
my brethren,
that ye
also are
full of goodness,
filled
with all knowledge,
able also
to admonish one
another.
For your obedience
is come abroad
unto all men.
I am glad
therefore on your behalf:
but yet
I would have
you wise
unto that which
is good,
and simple concerning evil.
But of him are
ye in Christ Jesus,
who of God
is made
unto us wisdom,
and righteousness,
and sanctification,
and redemption:
Howbeit
we speak wisdom
among them that
are perfect:
yet not
the wisdom
of this world,
nor
of the princes
of this world,
that come
to nought:
But we
speak
the wisdom
of God
in a mystery,
even the hidden wisdom,
which God
ordained
before the world
unto our glory:
Which none of the princes
of this world knew:
for had
they known it,
they would not have crucified
the Lord
of glory.
But as it
is written,
Eye hath not seen,
nor ear heard,
neither have entered
into the heart
of man,
the things which God
hath prepared
for them that love him.
But God
hath revealed them
unto us
by his Spirit:
for the Spirit
searcheth all things,
yea,
the deep things
of God.
For what man
knoweth the things
of a man,
save the spirit
of man
which is in him?
even so
the things
of God
knoweth no man,
but the Spirit
of God.
Now
we have received,
not the spirit
of the world,
but the spirit
which is of God;
that we
might know
the things
that are freely given to us
of God.
Which things also
we speak,
not in the words
which man's wisdom teacheth,
but which the Holy Ghost teacheth;
comparing
spiritual things
with spiritual.
But the natural man
receiveth not
the things
of the Spirit
of God:
for they
are foolishness
unto him:
neither can
he know them,
because
they are spiritually discerned.
But
he that is spiritual
judgeth all things,
yet
he himself
is judged of no man.
For who
hath known the mind
of the Lord,
that he
may instruct him?
But
we have
the mind
of Christ.
Let no man
deceive himself.
If any man
among you
seemeth
to be wise
in this world,
let him
become a fool,
that he
may be wise.
But
if any man
love God,
the same
is known of him.
For to one
is given
by the Spirit
the word
of wisdom;
to another
the word
of knowledge
by the same Spirit;
When
I was a child,
I spake as a child,
I understood
as a child,
I thought
as a child:
but
when
I became a man,
I put away
childish things.
Brethren,
be not children
in understanding:
howbeit in malice
be
ye children,
but
in understanding
be men.
Lest Satan
should get an advantage of us:
for we
are not ignorant
of his devices.
For God,
who commanded the light
to shine out of darkness,
hath shined
in our hearts,
to give the light
of the knowledge
of the glory
of God
in the face
of Jesus Christ.
Therefore,
as ye abound
in every thing,
in faith,
and utterance,
and knowledge,
and
in all diligence,
and
in your love to us,
see that
ye abound
in this grace also.
But now,
after that
ye have known God,
or rather are known
of God,
how turn
ye again to the weak
and beggarly elements,
whereunto
ye desire again
to be
in bondage?
Cease not to give
thanks for you,
making
mention
of you
in my prayers;
That the God
of our Lord Jesus Christ,
the Father
of glory,
may give
unto you the spirit
of wisdom
and revelation
in the knowledge
of him:
The eyes
of your understanding
being enlightened;
that ye
may know
what is the hope
of his calling,
and
what the riches
of the glory
of his inheritance
in the saints,
And what
is
the exceeding greatness
of his power
to us-ward
who believe,
according to
the working
of his mighty power,
For this cause
I bow
my knees
unto the Father
of our Lord Jesus Christ,
Of whom
the whole family
in heaven
and earth
is named,
That he
would grant you,
according to
the riches
of his glory,
to be strengthened
with might by his Spirit
in the inner man;
That Christ
may dwell
in your hearts
by faith;
that ye,
being rooted
and grounded
in love,
May be able
to comprehend
with all saints
what is the breadth,
and length,
and depth,
and height;
And
to know the love
of Christ,
which passeth knowledge,
that ye
might be filled
with all
the fulness
of God.
And he
gave some,
apostles;
and some,
prophets;
and some,
evangelists;
and some,
pastors
and teachers;
For the perfecting
of the saints,
for the work
of the ministry,
for the edifying
of the body
of Christ:
Till we all come in
the unity
of the faith,
and
of the knowledge
of the Son
of God,
unto a perfect man,
unto the measure
of the stature
of the fulness
of Christ:
See
then that
ye walk circumspectly,
not as fools,
but as wise,
Redeeming
the time,
because
the days are evil.
Wherefore be
ye not unwise,
but understanding
what the will
of the Lord is.
Praying always
with all prayer
and supplication
in the Spirit,
and watching thereunto
with all perseverance
and supplication
for all saints;
And for me,
that utterance
may be given unto me,
that I
may open
my mouth boldly,
to make
known the mystery
of the gospel,
For which
I am an ambassador
in bonds:
that therein
I may speak boldly,
as I
ought to speak.
And this
I pray,
that your love
may abound yet
more
and more
in knowledge
and in all judgment;
That ye
may approve
things
that are excellent;
that ye
may be sincere
and
without offence
till the day
of Christ.
But
what things
were gain to me,
those I
counted loss
for Christ.
Yea doubtless,
and
I count all things
but loss
for the excellency
of the knowledge
of Christ Jesus my Lord:
for whom
I have suffered
the loss
of all things,
and do count them
but dung,
that I
may win Christ,
That I
may know him,
and the power
of his resurrection,
and the fellowship
of his sufferings,
being made conformable
unto his death;
Let us therefore,
as many
as be perfect,
be thus minded:
and
if in any thing
ye be otherwise minded,
God shall reveal even this
unto you.
For this cause
we also,
since the day
we heard it,
do not cease
to pray for you,
and to desire
that ye
might be filled
with the knowledge
of his will
in all wisdom
and spiritual understanding;
That ye
might walk worthy
of the Lord
unto all pleasing,
being fruitful
in every good work,
and increasing
in the knowledge
of God;
Even
the mystery which
hath been
hid from ages
and from generations,
but now is made
manifest
to his saints:
To whom God
would make
known
what is the riches
of the glory
of this mystery
among the Gentiles;
which is Christ
in you,
the hope
of glory:
Whom
we preach,
warning every man,
and teaching
every man
in all wisdom;
that we
may present
every man
perfect
in Christ Jesus:
For I
would that
ye knew
what great conflict
I have for you,
and for them
at Laodicea,
and for
as many as
have not seen my face
in the flesh;
That their hearts
might be comforted,
being
knit together
in love,
and unto all riches
of the full assurance
of understanding,
to the acknowledgement
of the mystery
of God,
and
of the Father,
and of Christ;
In whom are
hid all the treasures
of wisdom and knowledge.
And have put on
the new man,
which is renewed in knowledge
after the image
of him that
created him:
Let the word
of Christ
dwell in you
richly in all wisdom;
teaching
and admonishing one
another
in psalms
and hymns
and spiritual songs,
singing
with grace
in your hearts
to the Lord.
Continue
in prayer,
and watch
in the same
with thanksgiving;
Withal
praying also for us,
that God
would open
unto us a door
of utterance,
to speak the mystery
of Christ,
for which
I am also
in bonds:
That I
may make
it manifest,
as I
ought to speak.
But ye,
brethren,
are not
in darkness,
that that day
should overtake you
as a thief.
Ye are all the children
of light,
and the children
of the day:
we are not
of the night,
nor
of darkness.
Who will have all men
to be saved,
and to come
unto the knowledge
of the truth.
For God
hath not given us the spirit
of fear;
but of power,
and of love,
and
of a sound mind.
Consider
what I say;
and the Lord
give thee understanding
in all things.
And
that from a child
thou hast known
the holy scriptures,
which are able
to make thee wise
unto salvation
through faith
which is in Christ Jesus.
If any of you
lack wisdom,
let him
ask of God,
that giveth to all men liberally,
and upbraideth not;
and it
shall be given him.
Who is a wise man
and endued
with knowledge
among you?
let him
shew
out of a good conversation
his works
with meekness
of wisdom.
But the wisdom
that is
from above
is first pure,
then peaceable,
gentle,
and easy
to be intreated,
full of mercy
and good fruits,
without partiality,
and
without hypocrisy.
Grace
and peace
be multiplied
unto you
through the knowledge
of God,
and
of Jesus our Lord,
According
as his divine power
hath given
unto us all
things that
pertain
unto life
and godliness,
through the knowledge
of him that
hath called us
to glory
and virtue:
Whereby are given
unto us exceeding
great
and precious promises:
that by these
ye might be partakers
of the divine nature,
having escaped
the corruption
that is
in the world
through lust.
And beside this,
giving all diligence,
add
to your faith virtue;
and
to virtue knowledge;
For if these things
be in you,
and abound,
they make you
that ye
shall
neither be barren
nor unfruitful
in the knowledge
of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Wherefore
I will not be negligent
to put you
always in remembrance
of these things,
though ye
know them,
and be established
in the present truth.
But grow
in grace,
and
in the knowledge
of our Lord
and Saviour Jesus Christ.
To him
be glory both
now and
for ever.
Amen.
But
ye have
an unction
from the Holy One,
and
ye know all things.
But the anointing
which ye
have received
of him abideth
in you,
and
ye need not
that any man
teach you:
but as the same anointing
teacheth you
of all things,
and is truth,
and is
no lie,
and
even as
it hath taught you,
ye shall abide in him.
We are of God:
he that
knoweth God heareth us;
he that is not
of God heareth
not us.
Hereby know
we the spirit
of truth,
and the spirit
of error.
And we
know that
the Son
of God
is come,
and hath given us
an understanding,
that we
may know him
that is true,
and
we are in him
that is true,
even in his Son Jesus Christ.
This is the true God,
and eternal life.
