And out of the ground
made
the LORD God
to grow every tree
that is pleasant
to the sight,
and good
for food;
the tree
of life
also in the midst
of the garden,
and the tree
of knowledge
of good and evil.
But of the tree
of the knowledge
of good and evil,
thou shalt not eat of it:
for in the day
that thou
eatest thereof thou
shalt surely die.
But of the fruit
of the tree
which is in the midst
of the garden,
God hath said,
Ye shall not eat of it,
neither shall
ye touch it,
lest ye die.
So he
drove out the man;
and he
placed
at the east
of the garden
of Eden Cherubims,
and a flaming sword
which turned every way,
to keep the way
of the tree
of life.
And God said,
This
is
the token
of the covenant which
I make
between me
and you
and every living creature
that is with you,
for perpetual generations:
I do set
my bow
in the cloud,
and it
shall be
for a token
of a covenant
between me and the earth.
And he said,
LORD God,
whereby shall
I know
that I
shall inherit it?
And
he said unto him,
Take me
an heifer
of three years old,
and a
she goat
of three years old,
and a ram
of three years old,
and a turtledove,
and a young pigeon.
And he
took unto him all these,
and divided them
in the midst,
and laid
each piece one
against another:
but the birds divided
he not.
And
when the fowls
came down
upon the carcases,
Abram drove them away.
And
ye shall circumcise
the flesh
of your foreskin;
and it
shall be a token
of the covenant
betwixt me and you.
Behold,
I stand here
by the well of water;
and the daughters
of the men
of the city
come out
to draw water:
And let it
come to pass,
that the damsel
to whom
I shall say,
Let down thy pitcher,
I pray thee,
that I
may drink;
and
she shall say,
Drink,
and I
will give
thy camels
drink also:
let the same
be
she
that thou
hast appointed
for thy servant Isaac;
and thereby shall
I know that
thou hast shewed kindness
unto my master.
And it
came
to pass,
before he
had done speaking,
that,
behold,
Rebekah came out,
who was born
to Bethuel,
son of Milcah,
the wife
of Nahor,
Abraham's brother,
with her pitcher
upon her shoulder.
And I
came
this day
unto the well,
and said,
O LORD God
of my master Abraham,
if now
thou do prosper
my way which
I go:
Behold,
I stand by
the well of water;
and it
shall come
to pass,
that when the virgin
cometh forth
to draw water,
and
I say to her,
Give me,
I pray thee,
a little water
of thy pitcher
to drink;
And
she say to me,
Both drink thou,
and
I will also draw
for thy camels:
let the same
be
the woman whom
the LORD
hath appointed out
for my master's son.
Speak
ye unto all
the congregation
of Israel,
saying,
In the tenth day
of this month
they shall take
to them every man
a lamb,
according to
the house
of their fathers,
a lamb
for an house:
And
if the household
be too little
for the lamb,
let him
and his neighbour next
unto his house
take it
according to
the number
of the souls;
every man
according to
his eating
shall make
your count
for the lamb.
Your lamb
shall be
without blemish,
a male
of the first year:
ye shall take it out
from the sheep,
or from the goats:
And
ye shall keep it up
until the fourteenth day
of the same month:
and the whole
assembly of the congregation
of Israel
shall kill it
in the evening.
And
they shall take
of the blood,
and strike it
on the two side posts
and on the upper door post
of the houses,
wherein they
shall eat it.
And
they shall eat
the flesh
in that night,
roast with fire,
and unleavened bread;
and
with bitter herbs
they shall eat it.
Eat not
of it raw,
nor sodden
at all with water,
but roast
with fire;
his head
with his legs,
and
with the purtenance
thereof.
And ye
shall let
nothing of it
remain until
the morning;
and that
which remaineth of it
until the morning
ye shall burn
with fire.
And thus
shall
ye eat it;
with your loins girded,
your shoes
on your feet,
and your staff
in your hand;
and
ye shall eat it
in haste:
it is the LORD's passover.
For I
will pass
through the land
of Egypt
this night,
and will smite all
the firstborn
in the land
of Egypt,
both man
and beast;
and
against all the gods
of Egypt I
will execute
judgment:
I am the LORD.
And the blood
shall be
to you
for a token
upon the houses
where ye are:
and
when
I see the blood,
I will pass
over you,
and the plague
shall not be
upon you
to destroy you,
when
I smite
the land
of Egypt.
And this day
shall be unto you
for a memorial;
and
ye shall keep it
a feast
to the LORD
throughout your generations;
ye shall keep it
a feast
by an ordinance
for ever.
Seven days
shall
ye eat
unleavened bread;
even
the first day
ye shall put
away leaven
out of your houses:
for whosoever
eateth leavened bread
from the first day
until the seventh day,
that soul
shall be cut off
from Israel.
And in the first day
there shall be
an holy convocation,
and in the seventh day
there shall be
an holy convocation
to you;
no manner
of work
shall be done in them,
save
that which every man
must eat,
that only may be done
of you.
And
ye shall observe
the feast
of unleavened bread;
for in this
selfsame day
have
I brought
your armies
out of the land
of Egypt:
therefore shall
ye observe
this day
in your generations
by an ordinance
for ever.
In the first month,
on the fourteenth day
of the month
at even,
ye shall eat
unleavened bread,
until the one
and twentieth day
of the month
at even.
Seven days
shall there be
no leaven
found
in your houses:
for whosoever
eateth
that which
is leavened,
even
that soul
shall be cut off
from the congregation
of Israel,
whether he
be
a stranger,
or born
in the land.
Ye shall eat
nothing leavened;
in all
your habitations
shall
ye eat
unleavened bread.
Then Moses
called for all
the elders
of Israel,
and
said unto them,
Draw
out and take
you a lamb
according to your families,
and kill
the passover.
And ye
shall take
a bunch
of hyssop,
and dip it
in the blood
that is
in the bason,
and strike
the lintel
and the two side posts
with the blood
that is
in the bason;
and none of you
shall go out
at the door
of his house
until the morning.
For the LORD
will pass through
to smite the Egyptians;
and
when he
seeth
the blood
upon the lintel,
and on the two side posts,
the LORD
will pass
over the door,
and will not suffer
the destroyer
to come in
unto your houses
to smite you.
And
ye shall observe
this thing
for an ordinance
to thee
and to thy sons
for ever.
And it
shall come
to pass,
when ye
be come
to the land
which the LORD
will give you,
according as he
hath promised,
that ye
shall keep
this service.
And it
shall come
to pass,
when your children
shall say
unto you,
What
mean
ye by this service?
That ye
shall say,
It is the sacrifice
of the LORD's passover,
who passed
over the houses
of the children
of Israel
in Egypt,
when
he smote the Egyptians,
and delivered
our houses.
And the people
bowed
the head
and worshipped.
And the children
of Israel went away,
and did as the LORD
had commanded Moses
and Aaron,
so did they.
And the LORD
went
before them
by day
in a pillar
of a cloud,
to lead them the way;
and by night
in a pillar of fire,
to give them light;
to go by
day and night:
He took not away the pillar
of the cloud
by day,
nor the pillar
of fire by night,
from before the people.
And the angel
of God,
which went before the camp
of Israel,
removed
and
went behind them;
and the pillar
of the cloud
went from
before their face,
and
stood behind them:
And it
came
between the camp
of the Egyptians
and the camp
of Israel;
and it
was a cloud
and darkness
to them,
but it
gave
light
by night
to these:
so that
the one
came not
near the other all the night.
Behold,
I will stand
before thee
there upon the rock
in Horeb;
and
thou shalt smite
the rock,
and there shall come
water out of it,
that the people
may drink.
And Moses
did so
in the sight
of the elders
of Israel.
And the LORD
said
unto Moses, Lo,
I come unto thee
in a thick cloud,
that the people
may hear
when
I speak
with thee,
and believe thee
for ever.
And Moses
told
the words
of the people
unto the LORD.
And it
came
to pass
on the third day
in the morning,
that there were
thunders
and lightnings,
and a thick cloud
upon the mount,
and the voice
of the trumpet
exceeding loud;
so that
all the people
that
was in the camp trembled.
And the people
stood afar off,
and Moses
drew near
unto the thick darkness
where God was.
And Moses
took the blood,
and sprinkled
it on the people,
and said,
Behold the blood
of the covenant,
which the LORD
hath made
with you
concerning all
these words.
And
thou shalt put all
in the hands
of Aaron,
and in the hands
of his sons;
and shalt wave them
for a wave
offering
before the LORD.
And
thou shalt receive them
of their hands,
and burn them
upon the altar
for a burnt offering,
for a sweet savour
before the LORD:
it is
an offering
made
by fire
unto the LORD.
And
thou shalt take
the breast
of the ram
of Aaron's consecration,
and wave it
for a wave
offering
before the LORD:
and it
shall be thy part.
And
thou shalt sanctify
the breast
of the wave offering,
and the shoulder
of the heave offering,
which is waved,
and
which is heaved up,
of the ram
of the consecration,
even of that
which is for Aaron,
and of that
which is for his sons:
And it
shall be Aaron's
and his sons'
by a statute for
ever from the children
of Israel:
for it
is
an heave offering:
and it
shall be
an heave
offering
from the children
of Israel
of the sacrifice
of their peace offerings,
even their heave
offering
unto the LORD.
And he put all
upon Aaron's hands,
and
upon his sons' hands,
and waved them
for a wave
offering
before the LORD.
And Moses
took
them from
off their hands,
and burnt them
on the altar
upon the burnt offering:
they were consecrations
for a sweet savour:
it is
an offering
made
by fire
unto the LORD.
And Moses
took the breast,
and waved it
for a wave
offering
before the LORD:
for of the ram
of consecration
it was Moses' part;
as the LORD
commanded Moses.
And the breasts
and the right shoulder Aaron
waved
for a wave
offering
before the LORD;
as Moses commanded.
And the LORD
said
unto Moses,
Speak
unto Aaron thy brother,
that he come not
at all times
into the holy place
within the vail
before the mercy seat,
which is upon the ark;
that he
die not:
for I will appear
in the cloud
upon the mercy seat.
All the heave offerings
of the holy things,
which the children
of Israel
offer
unto the LORD,
have
I given thee,
and thy sons
and thy daughters
with thee,
by a statute
for ever:
it is a covenant
of salt for
ever before the LORD
unto thee
and to thy
seed with thee.
And the LORD
said
unto Moses,
Make thee
a fiery serpent,
and set it
upon a pole:
and it
shall come
to pass,
that every one
that is bitten,
when
he looketh
upon it,
shall live.
And Moses
made
a serpent
of brass,
and put it
upon a pole,
and it
came
to pass,
that if a serpent
had bitten
any man,
when he
beheld
the serpent
of brass,
he lived.
And the LORD
said
unto Gideon,
The people
are yet too many;
bring them down
unto the water,
and
I will try them
for thee there:
and it
shall be,
that of whom
I say unto thee,
This shall go
with thee,
the same
shall go
with thee;
and of whomsoever
I say unto thee,
This shall not go
with thee,
the same
shall not go.
So he
brought down
the people
unto the water:
and the LORD
said
unto Gideon,
Every one that
lappeth of the water
with his tongue,
as a dog lappeth,
him shalt
thou set
by himself;
likewise every one that
boweth down
upon his knees
to drink.
And the number
of them that lapped,
putting their hand
to their mouth,
were three hundred men:
but all
the rest
of the people
bowed down
upon their knees
to drink water.
And the LORD
said
unto Gideon,
By the three hundred men
that lapped
will
I save you,
and deliver
the Midianites
into thine hand:
and let all
the other people
go every man
unto his place.
So the people
took victuals
in their hand,
and their trumpets:
and he
sent all
the rest
of Israel
every man
unto his tent,
and retained
those three hundred men:
and
the host
of Midian
was beneath him
in the valley.
When
thou art
departed
from me
to day,
then
thou shalt find two men
by Rachel's sepulchre
in the border
of Benjamin
at Zelzah;
and
they will say
unto thee,
The asses which
thou wentest
to seek
are found:
and,
lo,
thy father
hath left the care
of the asses,
and sorroweth for you,
saying,
What
shall
I do
for my son?
Then shalt
thou go on
forward
from thence,
and
thou shalt come
to the plain
of Tabor,
and there shall meet
thee three men
going up to God
to Bethel,
one carrying
three kids,
and another
carrying
three loaves
of bread,
and another
carrying
a bottle
of wine:
And
they will salute thee,
and give
thee two loaves
of bread;
which thou
shalt receive
of their hands.
After that thou
shalt come
to the hill
of God,
where is the garrison
of the Philistines:
and it
shall come
to pass,
when
thou art come thither
to the city,
that thou
shalt meet
a company
of prophets
coming down
from the high place
with a psaltery,
and a tabret,
and a pipe,
and a harp,
before them;
and
they shall prophesy:
And
the Spirit
of the LORD
will come upon thee,
and
thou
shalt prophesy with them,
and shalt be turned into
another man.
And let
it be,
when these
signs
are come
unto thee,
that thou
do as occasion
serve thee;
for God is with thee.
Now therefore
stand
and see
this great thing,
which the LORD
will do
before your eyes.
Is it
not wheat
harvest
to day?
I will call
unto the LORD,
and
he shall send
thunder and rain;
that ye
may perceive
and see
that your wickedness
is great,
which ye
have done
in the sight
of the LORD,
in asking
you a king.
So Samuel
called
unto the LORD;
and the LORD
sent
thunder
and rain
that day:
and all
the people
greatly feared
the LORD and Samuel.
Then said
Jonathan, Behold,
we will pass over
unto these men,
and
we will discover ourselves
unto them.
If they
say thus
unto us,
Tarry
until we come
to you;
then
we will stand
still
in our place,
and
will not go up unto them.
But
if they
say thus,
Come up unto us;
then
we will go up:
for the LORD
hath delivered them
into our hand:
and this
shall be a sign
unto us.
And both
of them discovered themselves
unto the garrison
of the Philistines:
and the Philistines said,
Behold,
the Hebrews
come forth
out of the holes
where they
had hid themselves.
And the men
of the garrison
answered Jonathan
and his armourbearer,
and said,
Come up to us,
and we
will shew you a thing.
And Jonathan
said
unto his armourbearer,
Come up after me:
for the LORD
hath delivered them
into the hand
of Israel.
And,
behold,
I will send a lad,
saying,
Go,
find out
the arrows.
If I
expressly say
unto the lad,
Behold,
the arrows
are on this side
of thee,
take them;
then come thou:
for there is peace
to thee,
and no hurt;
as the LORD liveth.
But
if I
say thus
unto the young man,
Behold,
the arrows
are beyond thee;
go thy way:
for the LORD
hath sent thee away.
And
as touching
the matter which
thou
and
I have spoken of,
behold,
the LORD
be between thee
and me
for ever.
So David
hid himself
in the field:
and
when the new moon
was come,
the king
sat him down
to eat meat.
And the king
sat
upon his seat,
as at other times,
even upon a seat
by the wall:
and Jonathan arose,
and Abner
sat
by Saul's side,
and David's place
was empty.
Nevertheless Saul
spake not any thing
that day:
for he thought,
Something hath befallen him,
he is not clean;
surely
he is not clean.
And it
came
to pass
on the morrow,
which was
the second day
of the month,
that David's place
was empty:
and Saul
said
unto Jonathan
his son,
Wherefore
cometh not
the son
of Jesse to meat,
neither yesterday,
nor to day?
And Jonathan
answered Saul,
David
earnestly asked
leave of me
to go
to Bethlehem:
And he said,
Let me go,
I pray thee;
for our family
hath
a sacrifice
in the city;
and my brother,
he hath commanded me
to be there:
and now,
if I
have found
favour
in thine eyes,
let me
get away,
I pray thee,
and see
my brethren.
Therefore he
cometh not
unto the king's table.
Then Saul's anger
was kindled
against Jonathan,
and
he said unto him,
Thou son
of the perverse rebellious woman,
do not
I know that
thou hast chosen
the son
of Jesse
to thine own confusion,
and
unto the confusion
of thy mother's nakedness?
For as long
as the son
of Jesse
liveth upon the ground,
thou shalt not be established,
nor thy kingdom.
Wherefore now send
and
fetch him unto me,
for he shall surely die.
And Jonathan
answered Saul
his father,
and
said unto him,
Wherefore
shall
he be slain?
what hath
he done?
And Saul cast
a javelin
at him to smite him:
whereby Jonathan
knew
that it
was determined
of his father
to slay David.
So Jonathan
arose
from the table
in fierce anger,
and did eat
no meat
the second day
of the month:
for he
was grieved
for David,
because
his father
had done him shame.
And it
came
to pass
in the morning,
that Jonathan
went out
into the field
at the time appointed
with David,
and a little lad
with him.
And he
said
unto his lad,
Run,
find out now the arrows
which I shoot.
And
as the lad ran,
he shot
an arrow
beyond him.
And
when the lad
was come
to the place
of the arrow
which Jonathan
had shot,
Jonathan
cried
after the lad,
and said,
Is not
the arrow
beyond thee?
So shall
we come upon him
in some place
where he
shall be found,
and we
will light
upon him
as the dew
falleth on the ground:
and of him and
of all
the men that
are with him
there shall not be left so much as
one.
Then spake Solomon,
The LORD
said that
he would dwell
in the thick darkness.
That thine
eyes
may be
open toward this house
night and day,
even toward the place
of which
thou hast said,
My name
shall be there:
that thou
mayest hearken
unto the prayer
which thy servant
shall make
toward this place.
And he
gave
a sign the same day,
saying,
This is the sign
which the LORD
hath spoken;
Behold,
the altar
shall be rent,
and the ashes
that
are upon it
shall be poured out.
The altar
also was rent,
and the ashes
poured out
from the altar,
according to the sign
which the man
of God
had given
by the word
of the LORD.
And he said,
Go forth,
and stand
upon the mount
before the LORD.
And,
behold,
the LORD
passed by,
and a great
and strong wind
rent the mountains,
and brake
in pieces
the rocks
before the LORD;
but the LORD
was not
in the wind:
and
after the wind an earthquake;
but the LORD
was not
in the earthquake:
And a certain man
of the sons
of the prophets
said unto his neighbour
in the word
of the LORD,
Smite me,
I pray thee.
And the man
refused
to smite him.
Then said
he unto him,
Because
thou hast not obeyed
the voice
of the LORD,
behold,
as soon as thou
art
departed from me,
a lion
shall slay thee.
And
as soon as he
was departed from him,
a lion
found him,
and slew him.
Then he
found
another man,
and said,
Smite me,
I pray thee.
And the man
smote him,
so that
in smiting
he wounded him.
So the prophet departed,
and waited
for the king
by the way,
and disguised himself
with ashes
upon his face.
And
as the king
passed by,
he cried
unto the king:
and he said,
Thy servant
went out
into the midst
of the battle;
and,
behold,
a man
turned aside,
and brought a man
unto me,
and said,
Keep this man:
if by any means
he be missing,
then shall
thy life
be for his life,
or else
thou shalt pay
a talent
of silver.
And as thy servant
was busy here
and there,
he was gone.
And
the king
of Israel
said unto him,
So shall
thy judgment be;
thyself hast decided it.
And Elisha
said unto him,
Take
bow and arrows.
And
he took unto him bow
and arrows.
And he
said
to the king
of Israel,
Put thine hand
upon the bow.
And he put
his hand
upon it:
and Elisha put
his hands
upon the king's hands.
And he said,
Open the window eastward.
And
he opened it.
Then Elisha said,
Shoot.
And he shot.
And he said,
The arrow
of the LORD's deliverance,
and the arrow
of deliverance
from Syria:
for thou
shalt smite
the Syrians
in Aphek,
till thou
have consumed them.
And he said,
Take the arrows.
And he took them.
And he
said
unto the king
of Israel,
Smite upon the ground.
And
he smote thrice,
and stayed.
And the man
of God
was wroth
with him,
and said,
Thou shouldest have smitten five
or six times;
then hadst
thou smitten
Syria
till thou
hadst consumed it:
whereas now
thou shalt smite Syria
but thrice.
Thus saith the king,
Let
not Hezekiah
deceive you:
for he
shall not be able
to deliver you
out of his hand:
And this
shall be a sign
unto thee,
Ye shall eat this year
such things
as
grow
of themselves,
and
in the second year
that which
springeth of the same;
and
in the third year sow ye,
and reap,
and plant
vineyards,
and eat
the fruits thereof.
And Hezekiah
said
unto Isaiah,
What
shall be
the sign
that the LORD
will heal me,
and
that I
shall go up
into the house
of the LORD
the third day?
And Isaiah said,
This sign
shalt thou
have of the LORD,
that the LORD
will do
the thing that
he hath spoken:
shall
the shadow
go forward ten degrees,
or go back ten degrees?
And Hezekiah answered,
It is
a light thing
for the shadow
to go down ten degrees:
nay,
but let
the shadow
return backward ten degrees.
And Isaiah
the prophet
cried
unto the LORD:
and he
brought
the shadow
ten degrees backward,
by which it
had gone down
in the dial
of Ahaz.
It is turned
as clay
to the seal;
and they
stand
as a garment.
And
he shall be like
a tree
planted
by the rivers
of water,
that bringeth forth his fruit
in his season;
his leaf
also shall not wither;
and whatsoever
he doeth
shall prosper.
Lord,
who shall abide in
thy tabernacle?
who shall dwell
in thy holy hill?
He made darkness
his secret place;
his pavilion round
about him were dark waters
and thick clouds
of the skies.
Send thee help
from the sanctuary,
and strengthen thee
out of Zion;
Thou lovest righteousness,
and hatest wickedness:
therefore God,
thy God,
hath anointed thee
with the oil
of gladness
above thy fellows.
Thou,
O God,
didst send
a plentiful rain,
whereby
thou didst confirm
thine inheritance,
when it
was weary.
He shall come
down like rain
upon the mown grass:
as showers that water
the earth.
In the daytime
also he
led them
with a cloud,
and all
the night
with a light
of fire.
Clouds
and darkness
are round
about him:
righteousness
and judgment
are the habitation
of his throne.
As the dew
of Hermon,
and as the dew
that descended
upon the mountains
of Zion:
for there
the LORD
commanded
the blessing,
even life
for evermore.
Awake,
O north wind;
and come,
thou south;
blow
upon my garden,
that the spices
thereof may flow out.
Let my beloved
come
into his garden,
and eat
his pleasant fruits.
From the sole
of the foot
even unto the head
there is no soundness in it;
but wounds,
and bruises,
and putrifying sores:
they have not been closed,
neither bound
up,
neither
mollified
with ointment.
When the Lord
shall have washed away
the filth
of the daughters
of Zion,
and shall have purged
the blood
of Jerusalem
from the midst
thereof by the spirit
of judgment,
and by the spirit
of burning.
Also I
heard
the voice
of the Lord,
saying,
Whom
shall
I send,
and
who
will go for us?
Then said I,
Here am I;
send me.
Behold,
I and the children whom
the LORD
hath given me
are for signs and
for wonders in Israel
from the LORD
of hosts,
which dwelleth in mount Zion.
For so
the LORD
said unto me,
I will take
my rest,
and I
will consider
in my dwelling
place like
a clear heat
upon herbs,
and like
a cloud
of dew
in the heat
of harvest.
At the same time
spake the LORD
by Isaiah
the son of Amoz,
saying,
Go and loose
the sackcloth from
off thy loins,
and put off
thy shoe from thy foot.
And he
did so,
walking naked
and barefoot.
And the LORD said,
Like as my servant Isaiah
hath walked
naked
and barefoot three years
for a sign
and wonder
upon Egypt
and upon Ethiopia;
So shall
the king
of Assyria
lead away
the Egyptians prisoners,
and the Ethiopians captives,
young
and old,
naked
and barefoot,
even with their buttocks uncovered,
to the shame
of Egypt.
I the LORD
do keep it;
I will water it every moment:
lest any hurt it,
I will keep it
night and day.
He shall cause them
that come
of Jacob
to take root:
Israel
shall blossom
and bud,
and fill
the face
of the world
with fruit.
And thine ears
shall hear
a word
behind thee,
saying,
This is the way,
walk ye in it,
when ye
turn
to the right hand,
and
when ye
turn
to the left.
And this
shall be a sign
unto thee,
Ye shall eat
this year such as groweth
of itself;
and the second year that
which springeth of the same:
and
in the third year sow ye,
and reap,
and plant
vineyards,
and eat
the fruit thereof.
And this
shall be a sign
unto thee
from the LORD,
that the LORD
will do
this thing that
he hath spoken;
Behold,
I will bring again the shadow
of the degrees,
which is gone down
in the sun dial
of Ahaz,
ten degrees backward.
So the sun
returned ten degrees,
by which degrees
it was gone down.
For I
will pour
water upon him that is thirsty,
and floods
upon the dry ground:
I will pour
my spirit
upon thy seed,
and my blessing
upon thine offspring:
And
they shall spring up as
among the grass,
as willows
by the water courses.
And the LORD
shall guide
thee continually,
and satisfy
thy soul
in drought,
and make fat
thy bones:
and
thou shalt be like
a watered garden,
and like
a spring
of water,
whose waters
fail not.
The Spirit
of the Lord GOD
is upon me;
because
the LORD
hath anointed me
to preach good tidings
unto the meek;
he hath sent me
to bind
up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim liberty
to the captives,
and the opening
of the prison
to them
that are bound;
To appoint
unto them that
mourn in Zion,
to give
unto them beauty
for ashes,
the oil
of joy
for mourning,
the garment
of praise
for the spirit
of heaviness;
that they
might be called trees
of righteousness,
the planting
of the LORD,
that he
might be glorified.
Moreover the word
of the LORD
came unto me,
saying,
Jeremiah,
what seest thou?
And I said,
I see
a rod
of an almond tree.
And
the word
of the LORD
came unto me the second time,
saying,
What seest thou?
And I said,
I see
a seething pot;
and the face
thereof is toward
the north.
Thus
saith
the LORD
unto me, Go
and get
thee a linen girdle,
and put it
upon thy loins,
and put it
not in water.
So I
got
a girdle
according to
the word
of the LORD,
and put it
on my loins.
And
the word
of the LORD
came unto me the second time,
saying,
Take the girdle
that thou
hast got,
which is upon thy loins,
and arise,
go to Euphrates,
and hide it
there in a hole
of the rock.
So I went,
and hid it
by Euphrates,
as the LORD
commanded me.
And it
came to pass
after many days,
that the LORD
said unto me,
Arise,
go to Euphrates,
and take
the girdle
from thence,
which I
commanded
thee to hide there.
Then
I went to Euphrates,
and digged,
and took
the girdle
from the place
where I
had hid it:
and,
behold,
the girdle
was marred,
it was profitable
for nothing.
Therefore thou
shalt speak
unto them this word;
Thus
saith
the LORD God
of Israel,
Every
bottle
shall be filled
with wine:
and
they shall say
unto thee,
Do we
not certainly know
that every bottle
shall be filled
with wine?
Thus saith the LORD,
Go and get
a potter's earthen bottle,
and take
of the ancients
of the people,
and
of the ancients
of the priests;
And go forth
unto the valley
of the son
of Hinnom,
which is by the entry
of the east gate,
and proclaim there
the words
that I
shall tell thee,
Then shalt thou
break the bottle
in the sight
of the men
that go
with thee,
The LORD
shewed me,
and,
behold,
two baskets
of figs
were set before the temple
of the LORD,
after that Nebuchadrezzar king
of Babylon
had carried away
captive Jeconiah the son
of Jehoiakim king
of Judah,
and the princes
of Judah,
with the carpenters
and smiths,
from Jerusalem,
and had brought them
to Babylon.
One basket
had very good figs,
even like
the figs
that are first ripe:
and the other basket
had very naughty figs,
which could not be eaten,
they were so bad.
Then said
the LORD
unto me, What
seest thou,
Jeremiah?
And I said,
Figs;
the good figs,
very good;
and the evil,
very evil,
that cannot be eaten,
they are so evil.
For thus
saith the LORD God
of Israel
unto me;
Take the wine cup
of this fury
at my hand,
and cause all
the nations,
to whom
I send thee,
to drink it.
And
they shall drink,
and be moved,
and be mad,
because
of the sword
that I
will send among them.
Then took
I the cup
at the LORD's hand,
and made all
the nations
to drink,
unto whom
the LORD
had sent me:
Thus
saith
the LORD to me;
Make thee bonds
and yokes,
and put them
upon thy neck,
And send them
to the king
of Edom,
and to the king
of Moab,
and to the king
of the Ammonites,
and to the king
of Tyrus,
and to the king
of Zidon,
by the hand
of the messengers
which come
to Jerusalem
unto Zedekiah king
of Judah;
Then
Hananiah the prophet
took
the yoke from
off the prophet Jeremiah's neck,
and brake it.
The word that
came
to Jeremiah
from the LORD
in the tenth year
of Zedekiah king
of Judah,
which was
the eighteenth year
of Nebuchadrezzar.
For then the king
of Babylon's army besieged Jerusalem:
and Jeremiah
the prophet
was shut up
in the court
of the prison,
which was in the king
of Judah's house.
For Zedekiah king
of Judah
had shut him up,
saying,
Wherefore
dost
thou prophesy,
and say,
Thus saith the LORD, Behold,
I will give
this city
into the hand
of the king
of Babylon,
and
he shall take it;
And
Zedekiah king
of Judah
shall not escape
out of the hand
of the Chaldeans,
but shall surely be delivered
into the hand
of the king
of Babylon,
and shall speak
with him mouth to mouth,
and his eyes
shall behold
his eyes;
And
he shall lead Zedekiah
to Babylon,
and there shall
he be until
I visit him,
saith the LORD:
though ye
fight
with the Chaldeans,
ye shall not prosper.
And Jeremiah said,
The word
of the LORD
came unto me,
saying,
Behold,
Hanameel the son
of Shallum
thine uncle
shall come
unto thee saying,
Buy thee my field
that is
in Anathoth:
for the right
of redemption
is thine
to buy it.
So Hanameel
mine uncle's son
came to me
in the court
of the prison
according to
the word
of the LORD,
and said unto me,
Buy my field,
I pray thee,
that is
in Anathoth,
which is in the country
of Benjamin:
for the right
of inheritance
is thine,
and the redemption
is thine;
buy it
for thyself.
Then
I knew
that this
was the word
of the LORD.
And I
bought
the field
of Hanameel
my uncle's son,
that was in Anathoth,
and weighed him
the money,
even seventeen shekels
of silver.
And
I subscribed
the evidence,
and sealed it,
and took witnesses,
and weighed him
the money
in the balances.
So I
took
the evidence
of the purchase,
both that which
was sealed according to the law
and custom,
and that which
was open:
And I
gave
the evidence
of the purchase
unto Baruch
the son
of Neriah,
the son
of Maaseiah,
in the sight
of Hanameel mine uncle's son,
and
in the presence
of the witnesses
that subscribed
the book
of the purchase,
before all
the Jews
that sat
in the court
of the prison.
And
I charged Baruch
before them,
saying,
Thus
saith
the LORD
of hosts,
the God
of Israel;
Take these evidences,
this evidence
of the purchase,
both which
is sealed,
and this evidence which
is open;
and put them
in an earthen vessel,
that they
may continue
many days.
For thus
saith the LORD
of hosts,
the God
of Israel;
Houses
and fields
and vineyards
shall be possessed again
in this land.
Now
when
I had delivered
the evidence
of the purchase
unto Baruch
the son
of Neriah,
I prayed
unto the LORD,
saying,
And it
shall be,
when
thou hast made
an end
of reading
this book,
that thou
shalt bind
a stone to it,
and cast it
into the midst
of Euphrates:
And I
will make
thy tongue
cleave
to the roof
of thy mouth,
that thou
shalt be dumb,
and shalt not be
to them a reprover:
for they
are a rebellious house.
But
when
I speak
with thee,
I will open
thy mouth,
and
thou
shalt say unto them,
Thus saith the Lord GOD;
He that heareth,
let him hear;
and he
that forbeareth,
let him forbear:
for they
are a rebellious house.
Thou also,
son of man,
take thee
a tile,
and lay it
before thee,
and pourtray
upon it the city,
even Jerusalem:
And lay siege
against it,
and build
a fort
against it,
and cast
a mount
against it;
set the camp
also against it,
and set
battering
rams
against it round about.
Moreover take
thou unto thee
an iron pan,
and set it
for a wall
of iron
between thee
and the city:
and set
thy face
against it,
and it
shall be besieged,
and
thou shalt lay siege
against it.
This shall be a sign
to the house
of Israel.
Lie
thou also upon thy left side,
and lay
the iniquity
of the house
of Israel
upon it:
according to the number
of the days
that thou
shalt lie
upon it thou
shalt bear
their iniquity.
For I
have laid
upon thee
the years
of their iniquity,
according to
the number
of the days,
three hundred
and ninety days:
so shalt thou
bear the iniquity
of the house
of Israel.
And
when
thou hast accomplished them,
lie
again on thy right side,
and
thou shalt bear
the iniquity
of the house
of Judah forty days:
I have appointed thee each day
for a year.
Therefore thou
shalt set
thy face toward
the siege
of Jerusalem,
and thine
arm
shall be uncovered,
and
thou shalt prophesy
against it.
And,
behold,
I will lay
bands upon thee,
and
thou shalt not turn thee
from one side
to another,
till thou
hast ended
the days
of thy siege.
Take
thou
also unto thee wheat,
and barley,
and beans,
and lentiles,
and millet,
and fitches,
and put them
in one vessel,
and make thee bread
thereof,
according to the number
of the days
that thou
shalt lie
upon thy side,
three hundred
and ninety days
shalt
thou eat
thereof.
And thy meat which
thou shalt eat
shall be
by weight,
twenty shekels a day:
from time to time
shalt thou
eat it.
Thou shalt drink
also water
by measure,
the sixth part
of an hin:
from time to time
shalt thou drink.
And
thou shalt eat
it as barley cakes,
and
thou shalt bake
it with dung
that cometh out of man,
in their sight.
And the LORD said,
Even thus
shall
the children
of Israel
eat their defiled bread
among the Gentiles,
whither
I will drive them.
Then said I,
Ah Lord GOD!
behold,
my soul
hath not been polluted:
for from my youth
up even till
now have
I not eaten
of that
which dieth
of itself,
or is torn
in pieces;
neither came there
abominable flesh
into my mouth.
Then
he said unto me,
Lo,
I have given
thee cow's dung
for man's dung,
and
thou shalt prepare
thy bread therewith.
Moreover he
said unto me,
Son of man,
behold,
I will break the staff
of bread
in Jerusalem:
and
they shall eat bread
by weight,
and with care;
and
they shall drink
water by measure,
and
with astonishment:
That they
may want bread
and water,
and be astonied one
with another,
and consume away
for their iniquity.
And thou,
son of man,
take thee a sharp knife,
take thee
a barber's razor,
and cause
it to pass
upon thine head
and
upon thy beard:
then take thee balances
to weigh,
and divide
the hair.
Thou shalt burn
with fire
a third part
in the midst
of the city,
when the days
of the siege
are fulfilled:
and
thou shalt take
a third part,
and smite
about it
with a knife:
and a third part thou
shalt scatter
in the wind;
and
I will draw
out a sword
after them.
Thou shalt also take thereof
a few in number,
and bind them
in thy skirts.
Then take
of them again,
and cast them
into the midst
of the fire,
and burn them
in the fire;
for thereof shall
a fire
come forth
into all
the house
of Israel.
Therefore,
thou son of man,
prepare thee stuff
for removing,
and remove by day
in their sight;
and
thou shalt remove
from thy
place
to another place
in their sight:
it may be
they will consider,
though they
be a rebellious house.
Then shalt
thou bring forth thy
stuff
by day
in their sight,
as stuff
for removing:
and
thou shalt go forth at
even in their sight,
as they
that go forth
into captivity.
Dig
thou through the wall
in their sight,
and carry out
thereby.
In their sight
shalt
thou bear it
upon thy shoulders,
and carry it forth
in the twilight:
thou shalt cover
thy face,
that thou
see not
the ground:
for I
have set thee
for a sign
unto the house
of Israel.
And I
did so
as I was commanded:
I brought forth my stuff
by day,
as stuff
for captivity,
and in the even
I digged
through the wall
with mine hand;
I brought it forth
in the twilight,
and
I bare it
upon my shoulder
in their sight.
And
in the morning
came the word
of the LORD
unto me,
saying,
Son of man,
hath not
the house
of Israel,
the rebellious house,
said unto thee,
What doest thou?
Say
thou unto them,
Thus saith the Lord GOD;
This burden
concerneth
the prince
in Jerusalem,
and all
the house
of Israel
that are among them.
Say,
I am your sign:
like as I
have done,
so shall
it be done unto them:
they shall remove
and go
into captivity.
Moreover the word
of the LORD
came to me,
saying,
Son of man,
eat thy bread
with quaking,
and drink thy
water
with trembling
and
with carefulness;
And say
unto the people
of the land,
Thus
saith
the Lord GOD
of the inhabitants
of Jerusalem,
and of the land
of Israel;
They
shall eat
their bread
with carefulness,
and drink
their water
with astonishment,
that her land
may be
desolate
from all that is
therein,
because
of the violence
of all
them that
dwell therein.
And
the cities
that are inhabited
shall be laid waste,
and the land
shall be desolate;
and ye
shall know
that I
am the LORD.
Son of man,
what is
the vine tree
more than any tree,
or than
a branch
which is among the trees
of the forest?
Then washed
I thee
with water;
yea,
I throughly washed away thy blood
from thee,
and
I anointed thee
with oil.
Thy mother
is like
a vine
in thy blood,
planted
by the waters:
she was
fruitful
and full of
branches
by reason
of many waters.
And she
had strong rods
for the sceptres
of them that bare rule,
and her stature
was exalted
among the thick branches,
and she
appeared
in her height
with the multitude
of her branches.
But
she was plucked up
in fury,
she was cast down
to the ground,
and the east wind
dried
up her fruit:
her strong rods
were broken
and withered;
the fire
consumed them.
And
now
she is planted
in the wilderness,
in a dry
and thirsty ground.
And fire
is gone
out of a rod
of her branches,
which hath devoured
her fruit,
so that
she hath
no strong rod
to be a sceptre
to rule.
This is a lamentation,
and shall be
for a lamentation.
Again in the ninth year,
in the tenth month,
in the tenth day
of the month,
the word
of the LORD
came unto me,
saying,
Son of man,
write thee the name
of the day,
even of this same day:
the king
of Babylon
set himself
against Jerusalem
this same day.
And utter
a parable
unto the rebellious house,
and
say unto them,
Thus saith the Lord GOD;
Set on a pot,
set it on,
and also pour
water into it:
Gather the pieces
thereof into it,
even every good piece,
the thigh,
and the shoulder;
fill it
with the choice bones.
Take the choice
of the flock,
and burn also
the bones
under it,
and make it
boil well,
and let them
seethe the bones of it
therein.
Also the word
of the LORD
came unto me,
saying,
Son of man,
behold,
I take away
from thee
the desire
of thine
eyes
with a stroke:
yet neither
shalt
thou mourn
nor weep,
neither shall
thy tears
run down.
Forbear to cry,
make no
mourning
for the dead,
bind
the tire of thine
head
upon thee,
and put on
thy shoes
upon thy feet,
and cover not
thy lips,
and eat not
the bread
of men.
So I
spake unto the people
in the morning:
and
at even my wife died;
and I
did in the morning as I
was commanded.
And the people
said unto me,
Wilt
thou not tell us
what these things
are to us,
that thou
doest so?
In that day
shall
thy mouth
be opened
to him which
is escaped,
and
thou shalt speak,
and be
no more dumb:
and
thou shalt be a sign
unto them;
and
they shall know
that I
am the LORD.
In that day
will
I cause
the horn
of the house
of Israel
to bud forth,
and
I will give thee
the opening
of the mouth
in the midst
of them;
and
they shall know
that I
am the LORD.
Now
the hand
of the LORD
was upon me
in the evening,
afore
he that
was escaped came;
and had opened
my mouth,
until he
came to me
in the morning;
and my mouth
was opened,
and I
was no more dumb.
And
I will make them
and the places round
about my hill
a blessing;
and I
will cause
the shower to
come down
in his season;
there shall be
showers of blessing.
And
the tree
of the field
shall yield
her fruit,
and the earth
shall yield
her increase,
and
they shall be safe
in their land,
and shall know
that I
am the LORD,
when
I have broken
the bands
of their yoke,
and delivered them
out of the hand
of those
that served themselves of them.
Then will
I sprinkle
clean
water upon you,
and
ye shall be clean:
from all your filthiness,
and
from all your idols,
will
I cleanse you.
Then said
he unto me,
Prophesy
unto the wind,
prophesy,
son of man,
and say
to the wind,
Thus saith the Lord GOD;
Come from the four winds,
O breath,
and breathe
upon these slain,
that they
may live.
So I
prophesied as he
commanded me,
and the breath
came into them,
and they lived,
and stood up
upon their feet,
an exceeding great army.
And shall put
my spirit in you,
and
ye shall live,
and
I shall place you
in your own land:
then shall
ye know
that I
the LORD
have spoken it,
and performed it,
saith the LORD.
The word
of the LORD
came again unto me,
saying,
Moreover,
thou son of man,
take
thee one stick,
and write
upon it,
For Judah,
and for the children
of Israel his companions:
then take
another stick,
and write
upon it,
For Joseph,
the stick
of Ephraim
and for all the house
of Israel his companions:
And join them one
to another
into one stick;
and
they shall become one
in thine hand.
And
when the children
of thy people
shall speak
unto thee,
saying,
Wilt
thou not shew us
what
thou meanest
by these?
Say unto them,
Thus saith the Lord GOD;
Behold,
I will take the stick
of Joseph,
which is in the hand
of Ephraim,
and the tribes
of Israel his fellows,
and
will put them with him,
even with the stick
of Judah,
and make them
one stick,
and
they shall be one
in mine hand.
And the sticks
whereon
thou writest
shall be
in thine hand
before their eyes.
And
say unto them,
Thus saith the Lord GOD;
Behold,
I will take
the children
of Israel from
among the heathen,
whither
they be gone,
and will gather them
on every side,
and bring them
into their own land:
And
I will make them one nation
in the land
upon the mountains
of Israel;
and one king
shall be king
to them all:
and
they shall be
no more two nations,
neither shall
they be divided
into two kingdoms any more
at all.
Neither shall
they defile themselves any more
with their idols,
nor
with their detestable things,
nor with any
of their transgressions:
but
I will save them
out of all their dwellingplaces,
wherein they
have sinned,
and will cleanse them:
so shall
they be
my people,
and
I will be
their God.
And David
my servant
shall be king
over them;
and
they all shall have
one shepherd:
they shall also walk
in my judgments,
and observe
my statutes,
and do them.
And
they shall dwell
in the land
that
I have given
unto Jacob my servant,
wherein your fathers
have dwelt;
and
they shall dwell
therein,
even they,
and their children,
and their children's children
for ever:
and my servant David
shall be their prince
for ever.
Moreover I
will make
a covenant
of peace
with them;
it shall be
an everlasting covenant
with them:
and
I will place them,
and multiply them,
and will set
my sanctuary
in the midst
of them
for evermore.
My tabernacle
also shall be with them:
yea,
I will be
their God,
and
they shall be
my people.
And the heathen
shall know
that I
the LORD
do sanctify
Israel,
when my sanctuary
shall be
in the midst
of them
for evermore.
In the same hour
came
forth fingers
of a man's hand,
and wrote over
against the candlestick
upon the plaister
of the wall
of the king's palace:
and the king
saw the part
of the hand that wrote.
Then the king's countenance
was changed,
and his thoughts
troubled him,
so that the joints
of his loins
were loosed,
and his knees
smote one
against another.
And
I have heard
of thee,
that thou canst
make interpretations,
and dissolve doubts:
now
if thou canst read
the writing,
and make
known
to me the interpretation
thereof,
thou shalt be clothed
with scarlet,
and have
a chain
of gold
about thy neck,
and shalt be
the third ruler
in the kingdom.
Then Daniel
answered
and said
before the king,
Let thy gifts
be to thyself,
and give
thy rewards
to another;
yet I
will read
the writing
unto the king,
and make
known
to him the interpretation.
O thou king,
the most high God
gave Nebuchadnezzar thy
father a kingdom,
and majesty,
and glory,
and honour:
And
for the majesty
that
he gave him,
all people,
nations,
and languages,
trembled
and feared
before him:
whom
he would
he slew;
and whom
he would
he kept alive;
and whom
he would
he set up;
and whom
he would
he put down.
But
when his heart
was lifted up,
and his mind
hardened
in pride,
he was deposed
from his kingly throne,
and they
took
his glory
from him:
And
he was driven
from the sons
of men;
and his heart
was made like
the beasts,
and his dwelling
was with the wild asses:
they
fed him
with grass like oxen,
and his body
was wet
with the dew
of heaven;
till he
knew
that the most high God
ruled
in the kingdom
of men,
and that
he appointeth over it
whomsoever he will.
And thou
his son,
O Belshazzar,
hast not humbled
thine heart,
though thou
knewest all this;
But hast lifted
up thyself
against the Lord
of heaven;
and
they have brought
the vessels
of his house
before thee,
and thou,
and thy lords,
thy wives,
and thy concubines,
have drunk wine
in them;
and
thou hast praised
the gods
of silver,
and gold,
of brass,
iron,
wood,
and stone,
which see not,
nor hear,
nor know:
and the God
in whose hand
thy breath is,
and whose are all
thy ways,
hast
thou not glorified:
Then was
the part
of the hand
sent from him;
and this
writing
was written.
And this
is the writing
that was written,
MENE, MENE,
TEKEL, UPHARSIN.
This is the interpretation
of the thing:
MENE;
God hath numbered
thy kingdom,
and finished it.
TEKEL;
Thou art
weighed
in the balances,
and art found wanting.
PERES;
Thy kingdom
is divided,
and given
to the Medes
and Persians.
Now
when Daniel
knew
that the writing
was signed,
he went into his house;
and his windows
being
open
in his chamber
toward Jerusalem,
he kneeled
upon his knees three
times a day,
and prayed,
and gave
thanks
before his God,
as he
did aforetime.
The beginning
of the word
of the LORD
by Hosea.
And the LORD
said
to Hosea, Go,
take
unto thee a wife
of whoredoms
and children
of whoredoms:
for the land
hath committed
great whoredom,
departing
from the LORD.
So he
went
and took
Gomer the daughter
of Diblaim;
which conceived,
and bare him a son.
And the LORD
said unto him,
Call his name Jezreel;
for yet
a little while,
and I
will avenge
the blood
of Jezreel
upon the house
of Jehu,
and will cause
to cease the kingdom
of the house
of Israel.
And it
shall come
to pass
at that day,
that I
will break
the bow
of Israel,
in the valley
of Jezreel.
And
she conceived again,
and bare
a daughter.
And God
said unto him,
Call her name Loruhamah:
for I
will no more
have mercy
upon the house
of Israel;
but
I will utterly take them away.
But
I will have mercy
upon the house
of Judah,
and will save them
by the LORD their God,
and will not save them
by bow,
nor by sword,
nor by battle,
by horses,
nor
by horsemen.
Now
when
she had weaned
Loruhamah,
she conceived,
and bare a son.
Then said God,
Call his name Loammi:
for ye
are not
my people,
and
I will not be
your God.
Then said
the LORD
unto me,
Go yet,
love a woman beloved
of her friend,
yet an adulteress,
according to the love
of the LORD
toward the children
of Israel,
who look
to other gods,
and love flagons
of wine.
So I
bought
her to me
for fifteen pieces
of silver,
and for an homer
of barley,
and an half homer
of barley:
And I
said
unto her,
Thou
shalt abide
for me many days;
thou shalt not play
the harlot,
and
thou shalt not be
for another man:
so will
I also be
for thee.
For the children
of Israel
shall abide
many days
without a king,
and
without a prince,
and without a sacrifice,
and
without an image,
and
without an ephod,
and
without teraphim:
Then shall
we know,
if we
follow on
to know the LORD:
his going
forth is prepared
as the morning;
and he
shall come
unto us
as the rain,
as the latter
and former rain
unto the earth.
Sow to yourselves
in righteousness,
reap in mercy;
break up
your fallow ground:
for it
is time
to seek the LORD,
till he come
and rain righteousness
upon you.
I will be as the dew
unto Israel:
he shall grow
as the lily,
and cast
forth his roots
as Lebanon.
Thus
he shewed me:
and,
behold,
the LORD
stood
upon a wall made
by a plumbline,
with a plumbline
in his hand.
And the LORD
said unto me,
Amos,
what seest thou?
And I said,
A plumbline.
Then said
the LORD, Behold,
I will set
a plumbline
in the midst
of my people Israel:
I will not again pass
by them any more:
Thus
hath
the Lord GOD
shewed unto me:
and behold
a basket
of summer fruit.
And he said,
Amos,
what seest thou?
And I said,
A basket
of summer fruit.
Then said
the LORD
unto me,
The end
is come upon
my people
of Israel;
I will not again pass
by them any more.
And it
shall come
to pass
at that time,
that I
will search Jerusalem
with candles,
and punish
the men that
are settled
on their lees:
that say
in their heart,
The LORD
will not do good,
neither will
he do evil.
And said unto me,
What seest thou?
And I said,
I have looked,
and behold
a candlestick all of gold,
with a bowl
upon the top of it,
and his seven lamps thereon,
and seven pipes
to the seven lamps,
which are upon the top
thereof:
And two olive trees by it,
one
upon the right side
of the bowl,
and the other
upon the left
side thereof.
Then answered I,
and
said unto him,
What
are
these two olive trees
upon the right side
of the candlestick
and upon the left
side thereof?
And
I answered again,
and
said unto him,
What
be
these two olive branches
which through the two
golden pipes
empty
the golden oil
out of themselves?
And
he answered me
and said,
Knowest thou not
what these be?
And I said,
No,
my lord.
And
he said unto me,
What seest thou?
And I answered,
I see
a flying roll;
the length
thereof is
twenty cubits,
and the breadth thereof ten cubits.
Then said
he unto me,
This is the curse
that goeth forth
over the face
of the whole earth:
for every one
that stealeth
shall be cut off as
on this side
according to it;
and
every one
that sweareth
shall be cut off as
on that side
according to it.
I will bring it forth,
saith the LORD
of hosts,
and it
shall enter into the house
of the thief,
and
into the house
of him that
sweareth falsely
by my name:
and it
shall remain in the midst
of his house,
and shall consume it
with the timber
thereof
and the stones
thereof.
And I said,
What is it?
And he said,
This is an ephah
that goeth forth.
He said moreover,
This is their resemblance
through all the earth.
And,
behold,
there was lifted
up a talent
of lead:
and this
is a woman
that sitteth in the midst
of the ephah.
And he said,
This is wickedness.
And he cast it
into the midst
of the ephah;
and he cast
the weight
of lead
upon the mouth
thereof.
Then lifted
I up mine eyes,
and looked,
and,
behold,
there came
out two women,
and the wind
was in their wings;
for they
had wings like
the wings
of a stork:
and they
lifted
up the ephah
between the earth
and the heaven.
Then said
I to the angel
that talked with me,
Whither
do
these bear the ephah?
And
he said unto me,
To build it
an house
in the land
of Shinar:
and it
shall be established,
and set there
upon her own base.
And I
will feed
the flock
of slaughter,
even you,
O poor
of the flock.
And
I took unto me two staves;
the one
I called Beauty,
and the other
I called Bands;
and
I fed
the flock.
And
I took my staff,
even Beauty,
and cut it asunder,
that I
might break
my covenant which
I had made
with all
the people.
And it
was broken in
that day:
and so
the poor
of the flock
that waited
upon me knew
that it
was the word
of the LORD.
Then
I cut asunder
mine other staff,
even Bands,
that I
might break
the brotherhood
between Judah
and Israel.
But who
may abide
the day
of his coming?
and
who shall stand
when
he appeareth?
for he
is like
a refiner's fire,
and like fullers' soap:
And he
shall sit
as a refiner
and purifier
of silver:
and
he shall purify
the sons
of Levi,
and purge them
as gold
and silver,
that they
may offer
unto the LORD
an offering
in righteousness.
Saying,
Where
is
he that is born King
of the Jews?
for we
have seen his star
in the east,
and are come
to worship him.
I indeed baptize you
with water
unto repentance.
but he
that cometh
after me
is mightier
than I,
whose shoes
I am not worthy
to bear:
he shall baptize you
with the Holy Ghost,
and with fire:
And Jesus,
when
he was baptized,
went up straightway out of the water:
and,
lo,
the heavens
were opened unto him,
and he
saw the Spirit
of God
descending like
a dove,
and
lighting upon him:
For it
is not ye that
speak,
but the Spirit
of your Father
which speaketh in you.
A wicked
and adulterous generation
seeketh after a sign;
and there shall
no sign
be given unto it,
but the sign
of the prophet Jonas.
And he
left them,
and departed.
And said,
Verily I
say unto you,
Except
ye be converted,
and become
as little children,
ye shall not enter
into the kingdom
of heaven.
And as they
were eating,
Jesus took bread,
and blessed it,
and brake it,
and gave it
to the disciples,
and said,
Take,
eat;
this is my body.
And
he took the cup,
and gave thanks,
and gave it
to them,
saying,
Drink
ye all of it;
For this
is my blood
of the new testament,
which is
shed for many
for the remission
of sins.
But
I say unto you,
I will not drink
henceforth
of this fruit
of the vine,
until that day
when
I drink it new
with you
in my Father's kingdom.
And,
behold,
the veil
of the temple
was rent in twain
from the top
to the bottom;
and the earth
did quake,
and the rocks rent;
And he said,
So is the kingdom
of God,
as if a man
should cast
seed into the ground;
And should sleep,
and rise
night and day,
and the seed
should spring
and grow up,
he knoweth
not how.
For the earth
bringeth forth fruit
of herself;
first the blade,
then the ear,
after that
the full corn
in the ear.
But
when Jesus
saw it,
he was
much displeased,
and
said unto them,
Suffer the little children
to come unto me,
and forbid them not:
for of such
is the kingdom
of God.
Verily
I say unto you,
Whosoever
shall not receive
the kingdom
of God
as a little child,
he shall not enter
therein.
And as they
did eat,
Jesus took bread,
and blessed,
and brake it,
and gave to them,
and said,
Take,
eat:
this is my body.
And
he took the cup,
and
when
he had given thanks,
he gave it
to them:
and
they all drank of it.
And
he said unto them,
This is my blood
of the new testament,
which is
shed for many.
Verily
I say unto you,
I will drink no more
of the fruit
of the vine,
until that day
that
I drink it new
in the kingdom
of God.
And
the veil
of the temple
was rent in twain
from the top
to the bottom.
And,
behold,
thou shalt be dumb,
and not able
to speak,
until the day
that these things
shall be performed,
because
thou believest not
my words,
which shall be fulfilled
in their season.
And the people
waited
for Zacharias,
and marvelled that
he tarried so long
in the temple.
And
when he came out,
he could not speak unto them:
and
they perceived
that he
had seen
a vision
in the temple:
for he beckoned unto them,
and remained speechless.
And they
made
signs
to his father,
how he
would have him called.
And he
asked for
a writing table,
and wrote,
saying,
His name is John.
And
they marvelled all.
And his mouth
was opened immediately,
and his tongue loosed,
and he spake,
and praised God.
And went to him,
and bound
up his wounds,
pouring in oil
and wine,
and set him
on his own beast,
and brought him
to an inn,
and took care of him.
And
when the people
were gathered thick
together,
he began to say,
This is an evil generation:
they seek a sign;
and there shall
no sign
be given it,
but the sign
of Jonas the prophet.
For as Jonas
was a sign
unto the Ninevites,
so shall also
the Son of man
be to this generation.
But Jesus
called them unto him,
and said,
Suffer little children
to come unto me,
and forbid them not:
for of such
is the kingdom
of God.
Verily
I say unto you,
Whosoever
shall not receive
the kingdom
of God
as a little child
shall in no wise
enter therein.
And
he took the cup,
and gave thanks,
and said,
Take this,
and divide it
among yourselves:
For I
say unto you,
I will not drink
of the fruit
of the vine,
until the kingdom
of God
shall come.
And
he took bread,
and gave thanks,
and brake it,
and
gave unto them,
saying,
This is my body
which is given
for you:
this do
in remembrance of me.
Likewise
also the cup
after supper,
saying,
This cup
is the new testament
in my blood,
which is
shed for you.
And the sun
was darkened,
and
the veil
of the temple
was rent
in the midst.
The next day John
seeth
Jesus
coming unto him,
and saith,
Behold the Lamb
of God,
which taketh away
the sin
of the world.
And looking
upon Jesus
as he walked,
he saith,
Behold the Lamb
of God!
Jesus answered,
Verily,
verily,
I say unto thee,
Except a man
be born
of water
and of the Spirit,
he cannot enter into the kingdom
of God.
The wind
bloweth
where it listeth,
and
thou hearest
the sound thereof,
but canst
not tell whence it cometh,
and whither
it goeth:
so is every one
that is born
of the Spirit.
And
as Moses
lifted
up the serpent
in the wilderness,
even so
must
the Son
of man
be lifted up:
Our fathers
did eat manna
in the desert;
as it is written,
He gave them bread
from heaven
to eat.
Then Jesus
said unto them,
Verily,
verily,
I say unto you,
Moses gave you
not that bread
from heaven;
but my Father
giveth you
the true bread
from heaven.
For the bread
of God
is he which
cometh down
from heaven,
and giveth life
unto the world.
Then said
they unto him, Lord,
evermore give us
this bread.
And Jesus
said unto them,
I am the bread
of life:
he that
cometh to me
shall never hunger;
and
he that believeth
on me shall never thirst.
But I
said
unto you,
That ye
also have seen me,
and believe not.
All
that the Father giveth me
shall come to me;
and him
that cometh to me
I will in no wise cast out.
For I came down
from heaven,
not to do
mine own will,
but the will
of him that
sent me.
And this
is the Father's
will
which hath sent me,
that of all which
he hath given me
I should lose
nothing,
but should raise it up
again at the last day.
And this
is the will
of him that
sent me,
that every one
which seeth the Son,
and believeth
on him,
may have
everlasting life:
and I
will raise
him up
at the last day.
The Jews
then
murmured at him,
because
he said,
I am
the bread which
came down
from heaven.
And they said,
Is not
this Jesus,
the son
of Joseph,
whose father
and mother
we know?
how is it
then that
he saith,
I came down
from heaven?
Jesus therefore answered
and
said unto them,
Murmur
not among yourselves.
No man
can come to me,
except the Father
which hath sent me
draw him:
and I
will raise
him up
at the last day.
It is written
in the prophets,
And
they shall be all taught
of God.
Every man
therefore that
hath heard,
and hath learned
of the Father,
cometh unto me.
Not
that any man
hath seen
the Father,
save
he which
is of God,
he hath seen
the Father.
Verily,
verily,
I say unto you,
He that believeth
on me hath
everlasting life.
Your fathers
did eat manna
in the wilderness,
and are dead.
This is the bread
which cometh down
from heaven,
that a man
may eat thereof,
and not die.
I am
the living bread which
came down
from heaven:
if any man
eat of this bread,
he shall live
for ever:
and the bread that
I will give
is my flesh,
which I
will give
for the life
of the world.
The Jews
therefore strove
among themselves,
saying,
How can this man
give us his flesh
to eat?
Then Jesus
said unto them,
Verily,
verily,
I say unto you,
Except
ye eat
the flesh
of the Son
of man,
and drink
his blood,
ye have no life
in you.
Whoso
eateth
my flesh,
and drinketh my blood,
hath eternal life;
and I
will raise
him up
at the last day.
For my flesh
is meat indeed,
and my blood
is drink indeed.
He that
eateth
my flesh,
and drinketh my blood,
dwelleth in me,
and I in him.
As the living Father
hath sent me,
and I
live
by the Father:
so he
that eateth me,
even
he shall live by me.
This is that bread
which came down
from heaven:
not as your fathers
did eat manna,
and are dead:
he that
eateth of this bread
shall live
for ever.
He that believeth on me,
as the scripture
hath said,
out of his belly
shall flow rivers
of living water.
(But this
spake
he of the Spirit,
which they that
believe
on him
should receive:
for the Holy Ghost
was not yet given;
because
that Jesus
was not yet glorified.)
Howbeit when he,
the Spirit
of truth,
is come,
he will guide you
into all truth:
for he
shall not speak
of himself;
but whatsoever
he shall hear,
that shall
he speak:
and he
will shew
you things
to come.
And suddenly there came
a sound
from heaven
as of a
rushing mighty wind,
and it
filled all
the house
where they
were sitting.
And there appeared
unto them cloven tongues like as
of fire,
and it
sat
upon each
of them.
Now
when this
was noised abroad,
the multitude
came together,
and were confounded,
because
that every man
heard them
speak
in his own language.
Cretes
and Arabians,
we do hear them
speak
in our tongues
the wonderful works
of God.
And
when
he was come unto us,
he took Paul's girdle,
and bound
his own
hands
and feet,
and said,
Thus saith the Holy Ghost,
So shall
the Jews
at Jerusalem
bind the man
that owneth this girdle,
and shall deliver him
into the hands
of the Gentiles.
And he
received
the sign
of circumcision,
a seal
of the righteousness
of the faith
which he
had yet being
uncircumcised:
that he
might be the father
of all
them that believe,
though they
be not circumcised;
that righteousness
might be imputed
unto them also:
But God
hath revealed them
unto us
by his Spirit:
for the Spirit
searcheth all things,
yea,
the deep things
of God.
Purge out therefore
the old leaven,
that ye
may be
a new lump,
as ye
are unleavened.
For even
Christ our passover
is sacrificed for us:
And did all drink
the same spiritual drink:
for they
drank of that
spiritual Rock
that followed them:
and that Rock
was Christ.
But all these
worketh
that one
and the selfsame Spirit,
dividing
to every man
severally as he will.
Who hath also sealed us,
and given
the earnest
of the Spirit
in our hearts.
But we all,
with open face
beholding as
in a glass
the glory
of the Lord,
are changed
into the same image
from glory to glory,
even as
by the Spirit
of the LORD.
In whom
ye also trusted,
after that
ye heard
the word
of truth,
the gospel
of your salvation:
in whom
also after that
ye believed,
ye were sealed
with that
holy Spirit
of promise,
Which is the earnest
of our inheritance
until the redemption
of the purchased possession,
unto the praise
of his glory.
And grieve not
the holy Spirit
of God,
whereby
ye are sealed
unto the day
of redemption.
That he
might sanctify
and cleanse it
with the washing
of water
by the word,
Let your speech
be alway
with grace,
seasoned with salt,
that ye
may know how
ye ought to answer
every man.
Thou hast loved
righteousness,
and hated
iniquity;
therefore God,
even thy God,
hath anointed thee
with the oil
of gladness
above thy fellows.
Wherefore
(as the Holy Ghost saith,
To day
if ye
will hear
his voice,
Harden not
your hearts,
as in the provocation,
in the day
of temptation
in the wilderness:
When your fathers
tempted me,
proved me,
and saw
my works forty years.
Wherefore
I was grieved
with that generation,
and said,
They
do alway err
in their heart;
and
they have not known
my ways.
So I
sware in my wrath,
They
shall not enter
into my rest.)
Take heed,
brethren,
lest
there be
in any
of you an evil heart
of unbelief,
in departing
from the living God.
And
in this place again,
If they
shall enter
into my rest.
A minister
of the sanctuary,
and
of the true tabernacle,
which the Lord pitched,
and not man.
Who serve
unto the example
and shadow
of heavenly things,
as Moses
was admonished
of God
when he
was about
to make the tabernacle:
for, See,
saith he,
that thou
make all things
according to
the pattern
shewed
to thee
in the mount.
Then verily
the first covenant
had also ordinances
of divine service,
and a worldly sanctuary.
For there was
a tabernacle made;
the first,
wherein was
the candlestick,
and the table,
and the shewbread;
which is called
the sanctuary.
And
after the second veil,
the tabernacle which
is called the Holiest
of all;
Which had
the golden censer,
and the ark
of the covenant overlaid round about
with gold,
wherein was
the golden
pot that
had manna,
and Aaron's rod
that budded,
and the tables
of the covenant;
And over it
the cherubims
of glory
shadowing
the mercyseat;
of which
we cannot now speak
particularly.
Now
when these things
were thus ordained,
the priests
went always
into the first tabernacle,
accomplishing the service
of God.
But into the second
went the high priest alone
once every year,
not without blood,
which he
offered
for himself,
and
for the errors
of the people:
The Holy Ghost this signifying,
that the way
into the holiest
of all was not
yet made manifest,
while as the first tabernacle
was yet standing:
Which was a figure
for the time
then present,
in which
were offered both gifts
and sacrifices,
that could not make him
that did
the service perfect,
as pertaining
to the conscience;
Which stood only
in meats
and drinks,
and divers washings,
and carnal ordinances,
imposed on them
until the time
of reformation.
But Christ
being come
an high priest
of good things
to come,
by a greater
and more perfect tabernacle,
not made
with hands,
that is to say,
not of
this building;
Neither by the blood of goats
and calves,
but by his own
blood
he entered in
once into the holy place,
having obtained
eternal redemption
for us.
Whereupon
neither
the first testament
was dedicated
without blood.
For when
Moses had spoken every precept
to all the people
according to the law,
he took the blood
of calves
and of goats,
with water,
and scarlet wool,
and hyssop,
and sprinkled
both the book,
and all
the people,
Saying,
This
is
the blood
of the testament which God
hath enjoined
unto you.
Moreover he
sprinkled
with blood both
the tabernacle,
and all
the vessels
of the ministry.
And
almost all things
are
by the law
purged
with blood;
and
without shedding
of blood
is no remission.
It was therefore necessary
that the patterns
of things
in the heavens
should be purified
with these;
but the heavenly things themselves
with better
sacrifices than these.
For Christ
is not entered
into the holy places
made with hands,
which are the figures
of the true;
but into heaven
itself,
now to appear in the presence
of God for us:
Let us
draw near
with a true heart
in full assurance
of faith,
having
our hearts
sprinkled
from an evil conscience,
and our bodies
washed
with pure water.
For ye are not come
unto the mount
that might be touched,
and that
burned
with fire,
nor
unto blackness,
and darkness,
and tempest,
And the sound
of a trumpet,
and the voice
of words;
which voice
they
that heard
intreated
that the word
should not be spoken
to them any more:
And
I saw
another angel ascending
from the east,
having the seal
of the living God:
and he
cried
with a loud voice
to the four angels,
to whom it
was given
to hurt
the earth
and the sea,
And cinnamon,
and odours,
and ointments,
and frankincense,
and wine,
and oil,
and fine flour,
and wheat,
and beasts,
and sheep,
and horses,
and chariots,
and slaves,
and souls
of men.
In the midst
of the street of it,
and
on either side
of the river,
was there
the tree of life,
which bare
twelve manner
of fruits,
and yielded
her fruit every month:
and
the leaves
of the tree
were for the healing
of the nations.
