And Nadab
and Abihu,
the sons
of Aaron,
took either
of them his censer,
and put
fire therein,
and put
incense thereon,
and offered
strange fire
before the LORD,
which he
commanded them not.
And there went out
fire
from the LORD,
and devoured them,
and they
died
before the LORD.
Then Moses
said
unto Aaron,
This
is
it that
the LORD spake,
saying,
I will be sanctified
in them that come nigh me,
and before all
the people
I will be glorified.
And Aaron
held his peace.
And the children
of Israel
said unto the LORD,
We have sinned:
do thou
unto us whatsoever seemeth good
unto thee;
deliver us only,
we pray thee,
this day.
And Samuel
told him
every whit,
and hid nothing
from him.
And he said,
It is the LORD:
let him
do
what seemeth
him good.
But now
he is dead,
wherefore should
I fast?
can
I bring him
back again?
I shall go
to him,
but
he shall not return to me.
But
if he thus say,
I have
no delight
in thee;
behold,
here am I,
let him
do to me
as seemeth good
unto him.
And the king said,
What
have
I to do
with you,
ye sons
of Zeruiah?
so let him curse,
because
the LORD
hath said unto him,
Curse David.
Who shall
then say,
Wherefore
hast
thou done so?
And David
said
to Abishai,
and
to all his servants,
Behold,
my son,
which came forth
of my bowels,
seeketh my life:
how much more now may
this Benjamite
do it?
let him alone,
and let him curse;
for the LORD
hath bidden him.
And David
said
unto Gad,
I am in a great strait:
let us
fall now
into the hand
of the LORD;
for his mercies
are great:
and let me
not fall
into the hand
of man.
Run now,
I pray thee,
to meet her,
and say unto her,
Is it
well with thee?
is it
well with thy husband?
is it
well with the child?
And she answered,
It is well:
Then said Hezekiah
unto Isaiah,
Good is the word
of the LORD which
thou hast spoken.
And he said,
Is it not good,
if peace
and truth
be in my days?
Howbeit
thou art
just in all that is
brought upon us;
for thou
hast done right,
but
we have done wickedly:
Go,
gather
together all
the Jews
that are
present
in Shushan,
and fast
ye for me,
and neither
eat
nor drink
three days,
night or day:
I also
and my maidens
will fast likewise;
and so
will
I go in
unto the king,
which is not according to
the law:
and if I perish,
I perish.
And there was a day
when
his sons
and his daughters
were eating
and drinking wine
in their eldest brother's house:
And there came
a messenger
unto Job,
and said,
The oxen
were plowing,
and the asses feeding
beside them:
And the Sabeans
fell upon them,
and took them away;
yea,
they have slain
the servants
with the edge
of the sword;
and
I only am escaped alone
to tell thee.
While he
was yet speaking,
there came also
another,
and said,
The fire
of God
is fallen
from heaven,
and hath burned
up the sheep,
and the servants,
and consumed them;
and
I only am escaped alone
to tell thee.
While he
was yet speaking,
there came also
another,
and said,
The Chaldeans
made out three bands,
and fell
upon the camels,
and have carried them away,
yea,
and slain
the servants
with the edge
of the sword;
and
I only am escaped alone
to tell thee.
While he
was yet speaking,
there came also
another,
and said,
Thy sons
and thy daughters
were eating
and drinking wine
in their eldest brother's house:
And,
behold,
there came
a great wind
from the wilderness,
and smote
the four
corners
of the house,
and it
fell
upon the young men,
and
they are dead;
and
I only am escaped alone
to tell thee.
Then Job arose,
and rent
his mantle,
and shaved
his head,
and fell down
upon the ground,
and worshipped,
And said,
Naked
came
I out of my mother's womb,
and naked
shall
I return thither:
the LORD gave,
and the LORD
hath taken away;
blessed
be the name
of the LORD.
Then said
his wife
unto him,
Dost thou
still retain
thine integrity?
curse God,
and die.
But he
said
unto her,
Thou speakest as one
of the foolish women speaketh.
What?
shall
we receive good
at the hand
of God,
and shall
we not receive evil?
In all
this did not
Job
sin
with his lips.
Behold,
happy is the man
whom God correcteth:
therefore despise not
thou the chastening
of the Almighty:
Surely
it is
meet
to be said
unto God,
I have borne
chastisement,
I will not offend
any more:
Stand in awe,
and sin not:
commune
with your own heart
upon your bed,
and be still.
Selah.
I was dumb,
I opened not
my mouth;
because
thou didst it.
Be still,
and know
that I
am God:
I will be exalted
among the heathen,
I will be exalted
in the earth.
He hath not dealt with us
after our sins;
nor rewarded us according to
our iniquities.
I know,
O LORD,
that thy judgments
are right,
and
that thou
in faithfulness
hast afflicted me.
My son,
despise not the chastening
of the LORD;
neither be
weary
of his correction:
The spirit
of a man
will sustain
his infirmity;
but a wounded spirit
who can bear?
Woe is me
for my hurt!
my wound
is grievous;
but I said,
Truly this
is a grief,
and
I must bear it.
Ye that
have escaped
the sword,
go away,
stand not still:
remember the LORD
afar off,
and let Jerusalem
come into your mind.
The LORD
is righteous;
for I have rebelled
against his commandment:
hear,
I pray you,
all people,
and behold
my sorrow:
my virgins
and my young men
are gone
into captivity.
Wherefore doth
a living man complain,
a man
for the punishment
of his sins?
Therefore hath
the LORD
watched
upon the evil,
and brought it
upon us:
for the LORD
our God
is righteous
in all his works
which he doeth:
for we
obeyed not
his voice.
The LORD's voice
crieth unto the city,
and the man
of wisdom
shall see
thy name:
hear ye
the rod,
and
who hath appointed it.
I will bear the indignation
of the LORD,
because
I have sinned against him,
until he
plead my cause,
and execute judgment
for me:
he will bring
me forth
to the light,
and
I shall behold
his righteousness.
Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done
in earth,
as it is in heaven.
And
he went a little farther,
and fell
on his face,
and prayed,
saying,
O my Father,
if it
be possible,
let this cup pass
from me:
nevertheless
not as I will,
but as thou wilt.
In your patience
possess ye your souls.
But the other answering
rebuked him,
saying,
Dost not
thou fear God,
seeing
thou art
in the same condemnation?
And
we indeed justly;
for we
receive the due reward
of our deeds:
but this man
hath done
nothing amiss.
Then said Jesus
unto Peter,
Put up thy sword
into the sheath:
the cup which my Father
hath given me,
shall
I not drink it?
And
they stoned
Stephen,
calling upon God,
and saying,
Lord Jesus,
receive my spirit.
And
he kneeled down,
and cried
with a loud voice,
Lord,
lay not
this sin
to their charge.
And
when
he had said this,
he fell asleep.
And
when
he would not be persuaded,
we ceased,
saying,
The will of the Lord
be done.
And not only so,
but we
glory
in tribulations also:
knowing
that tribulation
worketh patience;
And patience,
experience;
and experience,
hope:
And hope
maketh not ashamed;
because
the love
of God
is shed abroad
in our hearts
by the Holy Ghost
which is given unto us.
Rejoicing
in hope;
patient
in tribulation;
continuing instant
in prayer;
As unknown,
and yet well known;
as dying,
and,
behold,
we live;
as chastened,
and not killed;
As sorrowful,
yet alway rejoicing;
as poor,
yet making many rich;
as having nothing,
and yet possessing all things.
Great is my boldness
of speech
toward you,
great is my glorying
of you:
I am filled
with comfort,
I am exceeding joyful
in all our tribulation.
According to
my earnest expectation
and my hope,
that in nothing
I shall be ashamed,
but
that with all boldness,
as always,
so now also
Christ shall be magnified
in my body,
whether it
be by life,
or by death.
For to me
to live
is Christ,
and to die is gain.
But
if I
live
in the flesh,
this is the fruit
of my labour:
yet
what
I shall choose
I wot not.
For I
am in a strait
betwixt two,
having a desire
to depart,
and
to be
with Christ;
which is
far better:
Nevertheless
to abide in
the flesh
is more needful
for you.
Do all things
without murmurings
and disputings:
Not that
I speak
in respect
of want:
for I
have learned,
in whatsoever state
I am,
therewith to be content.
I know both
how to be abased,
and
I know how
to abound:
every
where and
in all things
I am instructed
both to be full
and
to be hungry,
both to
abound and
to suffer need.
I can do
all things
through Christ which
strengtheneth me.
Strengthened
with all might,
according to
his glorious power,
unto all patience
and longsuffering
with joyfulness;
That no man
should be moved
by these afflictions:
for yourselves
know that
we are appointed thereunto.
So that
we ourselves
glory
in you
in the churches
of God
for your patience
and faith
in all your persecutions
and tribulations that
ye endure:
Thou therefore endure
hardness,
as a good soldier
of Jesus Christ.
But watch
thou
in all things,
endure afflictions,
do the work
of an evangelist,
make full proof
of thy ministry.
For I
am now ready
to be offered,
and
the time
of my departure
is at hand.
For ye
had compassion of me
in my bonds,
and took joyfully
the spoiling
of your goods,
knowing in yourselves
that ye
have in heaven
a better
and an enduring substance.
For consider him that
endured
such contradiction
of sinners
against himself,
lest
ye be wearied
and faint
in your minds.
Ye have not yet resisted
unto blood,
striving against sin.
And
ye have forgotten
the exhortation
which speaketh unto you as
unto children,
My son,
despise not
thou the chastening
of the Lord,
nor faint
when
thou art
rebuked of him:
Furthermore
we have had
fathers
of our flesh which
corrected us,
and
we gave them reverence:
shall
we not much rather
be in subjection
unto the Father
of spirits,
and live?
Let the brother
of low degree
rejoice in that
he is exalted:
But the rich,
in that
he is made low:
because
as the flower
of the grass
he shall pass away.
Submit yourselves therefore
to God.
Resist the devil,
and
he will flee
from you.
Behold,
we count them happy which endure.
Ye have heard
of the patience
of Job,
and have seen
the end
of the Lord;
that the Lord
is very pitiful,
and of tender mercy.
Is any
among you afflicted?
let him pray.
Is any merry?
let him sing psalms.
Wherein ye
greatly rejoice,
though now for a season,
if need be,
ye are in heaviness
through manifold temptations:
Beloved,
think it
not strange concerning
the fiery trial which
is to try you,
as though
some strange thing
happened
unto you:
But rejoice,
inasmuch as
ye are partakers
of Christ's sufferings;
that,
when his glory
shall be revealed,
ye may be glad
also with exceeding joy.
Wherefore let them
that suffer according to
the will
of God
commit the keeping
of their souls
to him
in well doing,
as unto a
faithful Creator.
