And
they
said unto him,
We have dreamed
a dream,
and there is no interpreter
of it.
And Joseph
said unto them,
Do not interpretations
belong
to God?
tell me them,
I pray you.
And Joseph
answered Pharaoh,
saying,
It is not in me:
God shall give
Pharaoh an answer
of peace.
And Pharaoh
said
unto his servants,
Can we
find
such a one
as this is,
a man in
whom
the Spirit of God is?
And Pharaoh
said
unto Joseph,
Forasmuch as God
hath shewed thee all this,
there is none
so discreet
and wise
as thou art:
And God
said
unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM:
and he said,
Thus shalt thou
say
unto the children
of Israel,
I AM
hath sent me
unto you.
And God
said moreover
unto Moses,
Thus shalt thou
say
unto the children
of Israel,
the LORD God
of your fathers,
the God
of Abraham,
the God of Isaac,
and the God
of Jacob,
hath sent me
unto you:
this is my name
for ever,
and this
is my memorial
unto all generations.
Now therefore go,
and I
will be
with thy mouth,
and teach thee
what
thou shalt say.
And
thou
shalt speak unto him,
and put
words
in his mouth:
and I
will be
with thy mouth,
and
with his mouth,
and will teach you
what ye shall do.
And the LORD
said
to Aaron,
Go into the wilderness
to meet Moses.
And he went,
and met him
in the mount
of God,
and kissed him.
And the LORD
spake unto Moses
and unto Aaron,
and gave them
a charge
unto the children
of Israel,
and
unto Pharaoh king
of Egypt,
to bring the children
of Israel
out of the land
of Egypt.
That the LORD
spake unto Moses,
saying,
I am the LORD:
speak
thou
unto Pharaoh king
of Egypt all
that
I say
unto thee.
And Moses
went up unto God,
and the LORD
called
unto him
out of the mountain,
saying,
Thus shalt thou
say to the house
of Jacob,
and tell
the children
of Israel;
And the LORD
said
unto Moses, Lo,
I come unto thee
in a thick cloud,
that the people
may hear
when
I speak
with thee,
and believe thee
for ever.
And Moses
told
the words
of the people
unto the LORD.
And
when the voice
of the trumpet sounded long,
and waxed
louder
and louder,
Moses spake,
and God
answered him
by a voice.
And the glory
of the LORD abode
upon mount Sinai,
and the cloud
covered it six days:
and the seventh day
he called
unto Moses
out of the midst
of the cloud.
And
there
I will meet
with thee,
and
I will commune
with thee
from above
the mercy seat,
from between the two cherubims
which are upon the ark
of the testimony,
of all things
which I
will give thee
in commandment
unto the children
of Israel.
And it
came
to pass,
as Moses
entered
into the tabernacle,
the cloudy
pillar descended,
and stood
at the door
of the tabernacle,
and the Lord
talked
with Moses.
And
he hath filled him
with the spirit
of God,
in wisdom,
in understanding,
and in knowledge,
and in all manner
of workmanship;
And
when Moses
was gone into the tabernacle
of the congregation
to speak with him,
then he
heard
the voice of one
speaking
unto him from
off the mercy
seat that
was upon the ark
of testimony,
from between the two cherubims:
and
he spake unto him.
And Moses
said unto them,
Stand still,
and I
will hear
what the LORD
will command
concerning you.
And I
will come
down and talk
with thee there:
and
I will take
of the spirit
which is upon thee,
and will put it
upon them;
and
they shall bear
the burden
of the people
with thee,
that thou
bear it
not thyself alone.
And the LORD
came down
in a cloud,
and
spake unto him,
and took of the spirit
that was upon him,
and gave it
unto the seventy elders:
and it
came
to pass,
that,
when the spirit
rested upon them,
they prophesied,
and did not cease.
And he said,
Hear now my words:
If there be
a prophet
among you,
I the LORD
will make myself
known
unto him
in a vision,
and will speak
unto him
in a dream.
My servant Moses
is not so,
who is faithful
in all mine house.
With him will
I speak
mouth to mouth,
even apparently,
and
not in dark speeches;
and
the similitude
of the LORD
shall
he behold:
wherefore
then were
ye not afraid
to speak
against my servant Moses?
And Moses said,
Hereby
ye shall know
that the LORD
hath sent me
to do all
these works;
for I
have not done them
of mine own mind.
If these men
die the common death
of all men,
or if
they be visited
after the visitation
of all men;
then the LORD
hath not sent me.
And Balaam
answered
and said
unto the servants
of Balak,
If Balak
would give me his house
full of silver
and gold,
I cannot go
beyond the word
of the LORD my God,
to do less
or more.
And Balaam
said
unto Balak, Lo,
I am come
unto thee:
have
I now any power
at all
to say any thing?
the word that God
putteth in my mouth,
that shall
I speak.
And the LORD
put a word
in Balaam's mouth,
and said,
Return
unto Balak,
and thus
thou shalt speak.
And he
answered
and said,
Must I
not take
heed to speak
that which the LORD
hath put in
my mouth?
Behold,
I have received commandment
to bless:
and
he hath blessed;
and
I cannot reverse it.
But Balaam
answered
and said
unto Balak,
Told not I thee,
saying,
All
that the LORD speaketh,
that I
must do?
And Balaam
lifted
up his eyes,
and he
saw Israel
abiding
in his tents
according to their tribes;
and
the spirit
of God
came upon him.
And
he took up
his parable,
and said,
Balaam the son
of Beor
hath said,
and the man
whose eyes
are open
hath said:
He hath said,
which heard
the words of God,
which saw
the vision
of the Almighty,
falling
into a trance,
but having
his eyes open:
On this side Jordan,
in the land
of Moab,
began Moses
to declare this law,
saying,
The LORD our God
spake unto us
in Horeb,
saying,
Ye have
dwelt long enough
in this mount:
The LORD
talked
with you
face to face
in the mount
out of the midst
of the fire,
(I stood
between the LORD
and you
at that time,
to shew
you the word
of the LORD:
for ye
were afraid
by reason
of the fire,
and went not up
into the mount;)
saying,
I am the LORD
thy God,
which brought thee
out of the land
of Egypt,
from the house
of bondage.
But as for thee,
stand
thou here by me,
and
I will speak
unto thee all
the commandments,
and the statutes,
and the judgments,
which thou
shalt teach them,
that they
may do them
in the land which
I give them
to possess it.
If there arise
among you a prophet,
or a dreamer
of dreams,
and giveth
thee a sign
or a wonder,
And the sign
or the wonder
come
to pass,
whereof
he spake unto thee,
saying,
Let us
go
after other gods,
which thou
hast not known,
and let us
serve them;
Thou shalt not hearken
unto the words
of that prophet,
or that dreamer
of dreams:
for the LORD
your God
proveth you,
to know
whether ye
love
the LORD your God
with all your heart
and
with all your soul.
But the prophet,
which shall presume
to speak a word
in my name,
which I
have not commanded him
to speak,
or that
shall speak
in the name
of other gods,
even
that prophet
shall die.
And Joshua
the son
of Nun
was full of
the spirit
of wisdom;
for Moses
had laid his hands
upon him:
and the children
of Israel
hearkened unto him,
and did as the LORD
commanded Moses.
And there arose not
a prophet
since in Israel like unto Moses,
whom
the LORD
knew
face to face,
In all the signs
and the wonders,
which the LORD
sent him
to do in the land
of Egypt
to Pharaoh,
and
to all his servants,
and
to all his land,
And the LORD
said
unto Joshua,
This day
will
I begin
to magnify thee
in the sight
of all Israel,
that they
may know that,
as I
was with Moses,
so I
will be
with thee.
And it
came
to pass,
when the children
of Israel
cried
unto the LORD
because
of the Midianites,
That the LORD
sent
a prophet
unto the children
of Israel,
which said
unto them,
Thus
saith
the LORD God
of Israel,
I brought you up
from Egypt,
and brought
you forth
out of the house
of bondage;
And
I delivered you
out of the hand
of the Egyptians,
and
out of the hand
of all
that oppressed you,
and drave
them out from
before you,
and gave you
their land;
And I
said
unto you,
I am the LORD
your God;
fear
not the gods
of the Amorites,
in whose land
ye dwell:
but
ye have not obeyed
my voice.
But
the Spirit
of the LORD
came upon Gideon,
and
he blew a trumpet;
and Abiezer
was gathered
after him.
And
the Spirit
of the LORD
began to move him
at times
in the camp
of Dan
between Zorah
and Eshtaol.
And the child Samuel
ministered
unto the LORD
before Eli.
And
the word
of the LORD
was precious
in those days;
there was
no open vision.
Now Samuel
did not yet know
the LORD,
neither was
the word
of the LORD
yet revealed unto him.
And all
Israel
from Dan
even to Beersheba
knew
that Samuel
was established
to be a prophet
of the LORD.
And the LORD
appeared again
in Shiloh:
for the LORD
revealed himself
to Samuel
in Shiloh
by the word
of the LORD.
And
he said unto him,
Behold now,
there is
in this city a man
of God,
and
he is an honourable man;
all
that he saith
cometh surely
to pass:
now let us
go thither;
peradventure
he can shew us
our way that
we should go.
Then said Saul
to his servant,
But,
behold,
if we go,
what shall
we bring
the man?
for the bread
is spent
in our vessels,
and there is not
a present
to bring
to the man
of God:
what have we?
And the servant answered
Saul again,
and said,
Behold,
I have here
at hand
the fourth part
of a shekel
of silver:
that will
I give
to the man
of God,
to tell us our way.
Now the LORD
had told Samuel
in his ear a day
before Saul came,
saying,
And Samuel
answered Saul,
and said,
I am the seer:
go up
before me
unto the high place;
for ye
shall eat with me
to day,
and to morrow
I will let
thee go,
and will tell
thee
all that is
in thine heart.
And
the Spirit
of the LORD
will come upon thee,
and
thou
shalt prophesy with them,
and shalt be turned into
another man.
And let
it be,
when these
signs
are come
unto thee,
that thou
do as occasion
serve thee;
for God is with thee.
And
when
they came thither
to the hill,
behold,
a company
of prophets
met him;
and
the Spirit
of God
came upon him,
and
he prophesied among them.
Then Samuel
took
the horn
of oil,
and anointed him
in the midst
of his brethren:
and
the Spirit
of the LORD
came upon David
from that day forward.
So Samuel
rose up,
and went to Ramah.
And Saul
sent messengers
to take David:
and when they
saw the company
of the prophets prophesying,
and Samuel
standing
as appointed over them,
the Spirit
of God
was upon the messengers
of Saul,
and
they also prophesied.
And
he went thither
to Naioth
in Ramah:
and
the Spirit
of God
was upon him also,
and he went on,
and prophesied,
until he
came to Naioth
in Ramah.
And it
came to pass
that night,
that the word
of the LORD
came unto Nathan,
saying,
The king
said also
unto Zadok the priest,
Art not
thou a seer?
return
into the city
in peace,
and your two sons
with you,
Ahimaaz thy son,
and Jonathan
the son
of Abiathar.
The Spirit
of the LORD
spake by me,
and his word
was in my tongue.
The God
of Israel said,
the Rock
of Israel
spake to me,
He that
ruleth over men
must be just,
ruling in the fear of God.
For when
David was up
in the morning,
the word
of the LORD
came
unto the prophet Gad,
David's seer,
saying,
And the king
said
unto the man
of God,
Come
home with me,
and refresh thyself,
and
I will give
thee a reward.
And the man
of God
said unto the king,
If thou
wilt give me half
thine house,
I will not go in
with thee,
neither will
I eat bread
nor drink
water
in this place:
He said unto him,
I am a prophet
also as thou art;
and an angel
spake unto me
by the word
of the LORD,
saying,
Bring him
back
with thee
into thine house,
that he
may eat bread
and drink water.
But
he lied unto him.
And it
came
to pass,
as they sat
at the table,
that the word
of the LORD
came
unto the prophet
that brought him back:
And take
with thee ten loaves,
and cracknels,
and a cruse
of honey,
and go to him:
he shall tell thee what
shall become
of the child.
And the LORD
said
unto Ahijah, Behold,
the wife
of Jeroboam
cometh
to ask a thing
of thee
for her son;
for he
is sick:
thus
and thus
shalt thou
say unto her:
for it
shall be,
when
she cometh in,
that she
shall feign herself to be
another woman.
And Elijah
the Tishbite,
who was of the inhabitants
of Gilead,
said unto Ahab,
As the LORD God
of Israel liveth,
before whom
I stand,
there shall not be dew
nor rain
these years,
but
according to my word.
And the woman
said
to Elijah,
Now by this
I know that
thou art a man
of God,
and
that the word
of the LORD
in thy
mouth is truth.
And it
came
to pass
at the time
of the offering
of the evening sacrifice,
that Elijah the prophet
came near,
and said,
LORD God
of Abraham, Isaac,
and of Israel,
let it
be known
this day
that thou art God
in Israel,
and that
I am thy servant,
and that I
have done all these things
at thy word.
And
the hand
of the LORD
was on Elijah;
and he
girded
up his loins,
and ran before Ahab
to the entrance
of Jezreel.
And
he came thither
unto a cave,
and lodged there;
and,
behold,
the word
of the LORD
came to him,
and
he said unto him,
What
doest
thou here,
Elijah?
And a certain man
of the sons
of the prophets
said unto his neighbour
in the word
of the LORD,
Smite me,
I pray thee.
And the man
refused
to smite him.
Then the king
of Israel
gathered
the prophets
together,
about four hundred men,
and
said unto them,
Shall I
go against Ramothgilead
to battle,
or shall
I forbear?
And they said,
Go up;
for the LORD
shall deliver it
into the hand
of the king.
And Jehoshaphat said,
Is there not
here a prophet
of the LORD
besides,
that we
might enquire of him?
And
the king
of Israel
said unto Jehoshaphat,
There
is yet
one man,
Micaiah the son
of Imlah,
by whom
we may enquire
of the LORD:
but I
hate him;
for he
doth not prophesy
good concerning me,
but evil.
And Jehoshaphat said,
Let not
the king say so.
Then the king
of Israel
called an officer,
and said,
Hasten hither Micaiah
the son
of Imlah.
And the king
of Israel
and Jehoshaphat
the king
of Judah
sat each
on his throne,
having put on
their robes,
in a void place
in the entrance
of the gate
of Samaria;
and all
the prophets
prophesied
before them.
And Zedekiah
the son
of Chenaanah
made him horns
of iron:
and he said,
Thus saith the LORD,
With these
shalt thou
push the Syrians,
until thou
have consumed them.
And all
the prophets
prophesied so,
saying,
Go up to Ramothgilead,
and prosper:
for the LORD
shall deliver
it into the king's hand.
And Micaiah said,
As the LORD liveth,
what the LORD
saith unto me,
that will
I speak.
And Micaiah said,
If thou
return at
all in peace,
the LORD
hath not spoken by me.
And he said,
Hearken,
O people,
every one
of you.
And Elijah
answered
and
said unto them,
If I
be a man
of God,
let fire
come down
from heaven,
and consume
thee and thy fifty.
And
the fire
of God
came down
from heaven,
and consumed him
and his fifty.
And the sons
of the prophets
that were at Bethel
came forth
to Elisha,
and
said unto him,
Knowest
thou
that the LORD
will take away
thy master
from thy head to day?
And he said,
Yea,
I know it;
hold ye your peace.
And Elijah
said unto him,
Elisha,
tarry here,
I pray thee;
for the LORD
hath sent me
to Jericho.
And he said,
As the LORD liveth,
and as thy soul liveth,
I will not leave thee.
So they
came
to Jericho.
And the sons
of the prophets
that were at Jericho
came to Elisha,
and
said unto him,
Knowest
thou
that the LORD
will take away
thy master
from thy head to day?
And he answered,
Yea,
I know it;
hold ye your peace.
And Elijah
said unto him,
Tarry,
I pray thee,
here;
for the LORD
hath sent me
to Jordan.
And he said,
As the LORD liveth,
and as thy soul liveth,
I will not leave thee.
And
they two went on.
And fifty men
of the sons
of the prophets went,
and stood
to view afar off:
and
they two
stood by Jordan.
And Elijah
took his mantle,
and wrapped it
together,
and smote the waters,
and
they were divided
hither
and thither,
so that
they two
went over on dry ground.
And it
came
to pass,
when
they were gone over,
that Elijah
said unto Elisha,
Ask
what
I shall do
for thee,
before I
be taken away
from thee.
And Elisha said,
I pray thee,
let a double portion
of thy spirit
be upon me.
And he said,
Thou
hast asked
a hard thing:
nevertheless,
if thou
see me
when
I am taken
from thee,
it shall be so
unto thee;
but if not,
it shall not be so.
And it
came
to pass,
as they still went on,
and talked,
that,
behold,
there appeared
a chariot
of fire,
and horses
of fire,
and parted them
both asunder;
and Elijah
went up by a whirlwind
into heaven.
And Elisha
saw it,
and he cried,
My father,
my father,
the chariot
of Israel,
and the horsemen
thereof.
And
he saw him no more:
and he
took
hold
of his own clothes,
and rent them
in two pieces.
He took up also
the mantle
of Elijah
that fell from him,
and went back,
and stood by
the bank
of Jordan;
And
he took
the mantle
of Elijah
that fell from him,
and smote the waters,
and said,
Where
is
the LORD God
of Elijah?
and
when
he also had smitten
the waters,
they parted hither
and thither:
and Elisha went over.
And
when the sons
of the prophets which
were
to view
at Jericho
saw him,
they said,
The spirit
of Elijah
doth rest
on Elisha.
And
they came
to meet him,
and bowed themselves
to the ground
before him.
But Jehoshaphat said,
Is there not
here a prophet
of the LORD,
that we
may enquire
of the LORD
by him?
And one
of the king
of Israel's servants
answered
and said,
Here is Elisha
the son
of Shaphat,
which poured
water
on the hands
of Elijah.
And Jehoshaphat said,
The word
of the LORD
is with him.
So the king
of Israel
and Jehoshaphat
and the king
of Edom
went down
to him.
But now bring me
a minstrel.
And it
came
to pass,
when the minstrel played,
that the hand
of the LORD
came upon him.
Now there cried
a certain woman
of the wives
of the sons
of the prophets
unto Elisha,
saying,
Thy servant my husband
is dead;
and
thou knowest
that thy servant
did fear
the LORD:
and the creditor
is come to take
unto him my two sons
to be bondmen.
And
when she
came
to the man
of God
to the hill,
she caught him
by the feet:
but Gehazi
came near
to thrust her away.
And the man
of God said,
Let her alone;
for her soul
is vexed
within her:
and the LORD
hath hid it
from me,
and hath not told me.
And Elisha
came again
to Gilgal:
and there was
a dearth
in the land;
and the sons
of the prophets
were sitting
before him:
and he
said
unto his servant,
Set
on the great pot,
and seethe pottage
for the sons
of the prophets.
And there came a man
from Baalshalisha,
and brought
the man
of God bread
of the firstfruits,
twenty loaves
of barley,
and full ears
of corn
in the husk
thereof.
And he said,
Give
unto the people,
that they
may eat.
And
the king
of Syria said,
Go to,
go,
and I
will send
a letter
unto the king
of Israel.
And he departed,
and took with him ten talents
of silver,
and six thousand
pieces of gold,
and ten changes
of raiment.
And it
was so,
when Elisha
the man
of God
had heard
that the king
of Israel
had rent
his clothes,
that he
sent
to the king,
saying,
Wherefore
hast
thou rent
thy clothes?
let him
come now to me,
and he
shall know
that there is
a prophet
in Israel.
But he said,
As the LORD liveth,
before whom
I stand,
I will receive none.
And he
urged him
to take it;
but he refused.
Then
the king
of Syria
warred
against Israel,
and took
counsel
with his servants,
saying,
In such
and such a place
shall be
my camp.
And the man
of God
sent
unto the king
of Israel,
saying,
Beware that thou
pass not
such a place;
for thither
the Syrians
are come down.
And
the king
of Israel
sent to the place
which the man
of God
told him
and
warned him of,
and saved himself there,
not once nor twice.
Therefore the heart
of the king
of Syria
was sore
troubled
for this thing;
and
he called
his servants,
and
said unto them,
Will
ye not shew me
which
of us is for the king
of Israel?
And
one
of his servants said,
None,
my lord,
O king:
but Elisha,
the prophet
that is
in Israel,
telleth the king
of Israel the words
that thou
speakest in thy bedchamber.
And Elisha prayed,
and said,
LORD,
I pray thee,
open his eyes,
that he
may see.
And the LORD
opened
the eyes
of the young man;
and he saw:
and,
behold,
the mountain
was full of horses
and chariots
of fire round
about Elisha.
But Elisha
sat
in his house,
and the elders
sat with him;
and the king
sent
a man from
before him:
but ere
the messenger
came
to him,
he said
to the elders,
See ye
how this son
of a murderer
hath sent
to take away
mine head?
look,
when the messenger cometh,
shut the door,
and hold him
fast at the door:
is not the sound
of his master's feet
behind him?
And the king
said
unto Hazael,
Take a present
in thine hand,
and go,
meet the man
of God,
and enquire
of the LORD
by him,
saying,
Shall I
recover of this disease?
So Hazael
went to meet him,
and took
a present
with him,
even of every good thing
of Damascus,
forty camels' burden,
and came
and stood
before him,
and said,
Thy son Benhadad king
of Syria
hath sent me
to thee,
saying,
Shall I
recover of this disease?
And Elisha
the prophet
called one
of the children
of the prophets,
and
said unto him,
Gird up thy loins,
and take
this box
of oil
in thine hand,
and go
to Ramothgilead:
Know now that
there shall fall
unto the earth nothing
of the word
of the LORD,
which the LORD
spake concerning
the house
of Ahab:
for the LORD
hath done that
which he
spake by his servant Elijah.
Yet the LORD
testified
against Israel,
and
against Judah,
by all the prophets,
and
by all the seers,
saying,
Turn
ye from your evil ways,
and keep
my commandments
and my statutes,
according to all the law
which I
commanded
your fathers,
and which
I sent to you
by my servants the prophets.
All these which
were chosen
to be
porters
in the gates
were two hundred
and twelve.
These were reckoned
by their genealogy
in their villages,
whom David
and Samuel
the seer
did ordain
in their set office.
Then the angel
of the LORD commanded
Gad
to say to David,
that David
should go up,
and set up
an altar
unto the LORD
in the threshingfloor
of Ornan the Jebusite.
Then David
gave to Solomon
his son
the pattern
of the porch,
and of the houses
thereof,
and
of the treasuries
thereof,
and
of the upper chambers
thereof,
and
of the inner parlours
thereof,
and of the place
of the mercy seat,
All this,
said David,
the LORD
made me
understand
in writing
by his hand
upon me,
even all
the works
of this pattern.
Now the acts
of David the king,
first
and last,
behold,
they
are written in the book
of Samuel the seer,
and in the book
of Nathan the prophet,
and in the book
of Gad the seer,
Now the rest
of the acts
of Solomon,
first
and last,
are
they not written
in the book
of Nathan
the prophet,
and
in the prophecy
of Ahijah the Shilonite,
and
in the visions
of Iddo the seer
against Jeroboam
the son
of Nebat?
Now the acts
of Rehoboam,
first
and last,
are
they not written
in the book
of Shemaiah
the prophet,
and
of Iddo
the seer concerning genealogies?
And there were
wars
between Rehoboam
and Jeroboam continually.
Therefore the king
of Israel
gathered together
of prophets four hundred men,
and
said unto them,
Shall
we go
to Ramothgilead
to battle,
or shall
I forbear?
And they said,
Go up;
for God
will deliver
it into the king's hand.
Then
upon Jahaziel
the son
of Zechariah,
the son
of Benaiah,
the son of Jeiel,
the son
of Mattaniah,
a Levite
of the sons
of Asaph,
came the Spirit
of the LORD
in the midst
of the congregation;
And he
sought God
in the days
of Zechariah,
who had
understanding in the visions of God:
and as long as he
sought the LORD,
God made him
to prosper.
Moreover Hezekiah
the king
and the princes
commanded
the Levites
to sing praise
unto the LORD
with the words
of David,
and
of Asaph the seer.
And they
sang
praises
with gladness,
and they
bowed
their heads
and worshipped.
Now the rest
of the acts
of Manasseh,
and his prayer
unto his God,
and the words
of the seers
that spake to him
in the name
of the LORD God
of Israel,
behold,
they are written in the book
of the kings
of Israel.
And he
did that which
was evil
in the sight
of the LORD his God,
and humbled not
himself
before Jeremiah
the prophet
speaking
from the mouth
of the LORD.
But they
mocked
the messengers
of God,
and despised
his words,
and misused
his prophets,
until the wrath
of the LORD
arose
against his people,
till there was
no remedy.
And,
lo,
I perceived
that God
had not sent him;
but that
he pronounced
this prophecy
against me:
for Tobiah
and Sanballat
had hired him.
My God,
think
thou
upon Tobiah
and Sanballat
according to
these their works,
and
on the prophetess Noadiah,
and the rest
of the prophets,
that would have put me
in fear.
Yet many years
didst
thou forbear them,
and testifiedst
against them
by thy spirit
in thy prophets:
yet would
they not give ear:
therefore gavest
thou them
into the hand
of the people
of the lands.
But there is
a spirit in man:
and
the inspiration
of the Almighty
giveth them understanding.
For God
speaketh once,
yea twice,
yet man
perceiveth it not.
In a dream,
in a vision
of the night,
when deep sleep
falleth upon men,
in slumberings
upon the bed;
Then he
openeth
the ears
of men,
and sealeth their instruction,
He made
known his ways
unto Moses,
his acts
unto the children
of Israel.
In the year
that king Uzziah
died
I saw also
the LORD
sitting
upon a throne,
high
and lifted up,
and his train
filled the temple.
Also I
heard
the voice
of the Lord,
saying,
Whom
shall
I send,
and
who
will go for us?
Then said I,
Here am I;
send me.
And he said,
Go,
and tell
this people,
Hear ye indeed,
but understand not;
and see
ye indeed,
but perceive not.
For the LORD
spake thus to me
with a strong hand,
and instructed me
that I
should not walk
in the way
of this people,
saying,
Which say
to the seers,
See not;
and
to the prophets,
Prophesy not unto us right things,
speak unto us smooth things,
prophesy deceits:
And
he sent Eliakim,
who was over the household,
and Shebna
the scribe,
and the elders
of the priests covered
with sackcloth,
unto Isaiah the prophet
the son
of Amoz.
And
they
said unto him,
Thus saith Hezekiah,
This day
is a day
of trouble,
and of rebuke,
and of blasphemy:
for the children
are come
to the birth,
and there is not
strength
to bring forth.
That confirmeth
the word
of his servant,
and performeth
the counsel
of his messengers;
that saith to Jerusalem,
Thou shalt be inhabited;
and to the cities
of Judah,
Ye shall be built,
and I
will raise
up the decayed
places thereof:
Then
he remembered
the days
of old,
Moses,
and his people,
saying,
Where
is
he that
brought
them up
out of the sea
with the shepherd
of his flock?
where is
he that put
his holy Spirit
within him?
The words
of Jeremiah
the son
of Hilkiah,
of the priests
that were in Anathoth
in the land
of Benjamin:
To whom
the word
of the LORD
came in the days
of Josiah the son
of Amon king
of Judah,
in the thirteenth year
of his reign.
Then
the word
of the LORD
came unto me,
saying,
Before I
formed thee
in the belly
I knew thee;
and before thou
camest forth
out of the womb
I sanctified thee,
and
I ordained thee
a prophet
unto the nations.
Then said I,
Ah, Lord GOD!
behold,
I cannot speak:
for I
am a child.
But the LORD
said unto me,
Say not,
I am a child:
for thou
shalt go
to all
that I
shall send thee,
and whatsoever
I command thee
thou shalt speak.
Be not afraid
of their faces:
for I
am with thee
to deliver thee,
saith the LORD.
Then the LORD
put forth
his hand,
and touched
my mouth.
And the LORD
said unto me,
Behold,
I have put
my words in thy mouth.
See,
I have this day
set thee
over the nations
and over the kingdoms,
to root out,
and to pull down,
and to destroy,
and to throw down,
to build,
and to plant.
In vain
have
I smitten
your children;
they received
no correction:
your own sword
hath devoured
your prophets,
like a destroying lion.
Since the day
that your fathers
came forth
out of the land
of Egypt
unto this day
I have even sent
unto you
all my servants the prophets,
daily rising
up early
and sending them:
And the LORD
hath given me knowledge of it,
and I
know it:
then
thou shewedst me
their doings.
Then said I,
Ah, Lord GOD!
behold,
the prophets
say unto them,
Ye shall not see
the sword,
neither shall
ye have famine;
but I
will give
you assured peace
in this place.
Then the LORD
said unto me,
The prophets
prophesy
lies in my name:
I sent them not,
neither have
I commanded them,
neither spake unto them:
they prophesy
unto you
a false vision
and divination,
and a thing
of nought,
and the deceit
of their heart.
Therefore thus
saith
the LORD
concerning the prophets
that prophesy
in my name,
and
I sent them not,
yet they say,
Sword
and famine
shall not be
in this land;
By sword
and famine
shall
those prophets
be consumed.
And the people
to whom
they prophesy
shall be cast out
in the streets
of Jerusalem
because
of the famine
and the sword;
and
they shall have none
to bury them,
them,
their wives,
nor their sons,
nor their daughters:
for I
will pour
their wickedness
upon them.
And thou,
Pashur,
and all that
dwell
in thine
house
shall go
into captivity:
and
thou shalt come
to Babylon,
and there
thou shalt die,
and shalt be buried there,
thou,
and all thy friends,
to whom
thou hast prophesied lies.
Then I said,
I will not make
mention of him,
nor speak any more
in his name.
But his word
was in mine heart
as a burning fire shut up
in my bones,
and
I was
weary
with forbearing,
and
I could not stay.
Mine heart
within me is broken
because
of the prophets;
all my bones shake;
I am like
a drunken man,
and like a man
whom wine
hath overcome,
because
of the LORD,
and
because
of the words
of his holiness.
I have heard
what the prophets said,
that prophesy
lies in my name,
saying,
I have dreamed,
I have dreamed.
How long
shall this
be in the heart
of the prophets
that prophesy lies?
yea,
they are prophets
of the deceit
of their own heart;
Which think
to cause
my people
to forget my name
by their dreams
which they
tell every man
to his neighbour,
as their fathers
have forgotten my name
for Baal.
Therefore,
behold,
I am against the prophets,
saith the LORD,
that steal my words
every one
from his neighbour.
Behold,
I am against the prophets,
saith the LORD,
that use their tongues,
and say,
He saith.
Behold,
I am against them that prophesy false dreams,
saith the LORD,
and do tell them,
and cause
my people
to err
by their lies,
and
by their lightness;
yet
I sent them not,
nor commanded them:
therefore they
shall not profit
this people
at all,
saith the LORD.
Thus saith the LORD;
Stand
in the court
of the LORD's house,
and speak
unto all
the cities
of Judah,
which come
to worship
in the LORD's house,
all the words that
I command thee
to speak unto them;
diminish not
a word:
Therefore thus
saith the LORD;
Behold,
I will cast thee
from off the face
of the earth:
this year
thou shalt die,
because
thou hast taught rebellion
against the LORD.
So Hananiah
the prophet
died
the same year
in the seventh month.
Therefore thus
saith the LORD;
Behold,
I will punish Shemaiah
the Nehelamite,
and his seed:
he shall not have
a man
to dwell
among this people;
neither shall
he behold
the good
that I
will do
for my people,
saith the LORD;
because
he hath taught rebellion
against the LORD.
Then
Jeremiah the prophet
said unto them,
I have heard you;
behold,
I will pray
unto the LORD
your God
according to your words;
and it
shall come
to pass,
that whatsoever
thing the LORD
shall answer you,
I will declare it
unto you;
I will keep
nothing
back
from you.
And it
came
to pass
after ten days,
that the word
of the LORD
came
unto Jeremiah.
Thy prophets
have seen vain
and foolish things
for thee:
and
they have not discovered
thine iniquity,
to turn away thy captivity;
but have seen
for thee false burdens
and causes
of banishment.
Now it
came
to pass
in the thirtieth year,
in the fourth month,
in the fifth day
of the month,
as I
was among the captives
by the river
of Chebar,
that the heavens
were opened,
and
I saw visions
of God.
The word
of the LORD
came expressly
unto Ezekiel the priest,
the son of Buzi,
in the land
of the Chaldeans
by the river Chebar;
and
the hand
of the LORD
was there upon him.
Whithersoever
the spirit
was to go,
they went,
thither was their spirit to go;
and the wheels
were lifted up over against them:
for the spirit
of the living creature
was in the wheels.
And
he said unto me,
Son of man,
stand
upon thy feet,
and
I will speak
unto thee.
And the spirit
entered
into me
when
he spake unto me,
and set me
upon my feet,
that I
heard him
that spake unto me.
For they
are impudent children
and stiffhearted.
I do send thee
unto them;
and
thou
shalt say unto them,
Thus saith the Lord GOD.
And they,
whether they
will hear,
or whether
they will forbear,
(for they
are a rebellious house,)
yet shall know
that there hath been
a prophet
among them.
Moreover he
said unto me,
Son of man,
all my words
that I
shall speak
unto thee
receive in thine heart,
and hear
with thine ears.
And go,
get thee to them
of the captivity,
unto the children
of thy people,
and
speak unto them,
and tell them,
Thus saith the Lord GOD;
whether they
will hear,
or whether
they will forbear.
Then the spirit
took me up,
and I
heard
behind me a voice
of a great rushing,
saying,
Blessed
be the glory
of the LORD
from his place.
So the spirit
lifted me up,
and took me away,
and
I went in bitterness,
in the heat
of my spirit;
but
the hand
of the LORD
was strong
upon me.
And it
came
to pass
at the end
of seven days,
that the word
of the LORD
came unto me,
saying,
Son of man,
I have made thee
a watchman
unto the house
of Israel:
therefore hear the word
at my mouth,
and give them
warning from me.
And
the hand
of the LORD
was there upon me;
and
he said unto me,
Arise,
go forth
into the plain,
and
I will there talk
with thee.
Then the spirit
entered into me,
and set me
upon my feet,
and
spake with me,
and said unto me,
Go,
shut thyself
within thine house.
But
when
I speak
with thee,
I will open
thy mouth,
and
thou
shalt say unto them,
Thus saith the Lord GOD;
He that heareth,
let him hear;
and he
that forbeareth,
let him forbear:
for they
are a rebellious house.
And it
came
to pass
in the sixth year,
in the sixth month,
in the fifth day
of the month,
as I sat
in mine house,
and the elders
of Judah
sat
before me,
that the hand
of the Lord GOD
fell there upon me.
Moreover the spirit
lifted me up,
and brought me
unto the east gate
of the LORD's house,
which looketh eastward:
and behold
at the door
of the gate five
and twenty men;
among whom
I saw Jaazaniah
the son
of Azur,
and Pelatiah
the son
of Benaiah,
princes
of the people.
Therefore prophesy against them,
prophesy,
O son of man.
And
the Spirit
of the LORD
fell upon me,
and said unto me,
Speak;
Thus saith the LORD;
Thus
have
ye said,
O house
of Israel:
for I
know
the things that
come
into your mind,
every one
of them.
Afterwards
the spirit
took me up,
and brought me
in a vision
by the Spirit
of God
into Chaldea,
to them
of the captivity.
So the vision that
I had seen
went up from me.
And will
ye pollute me
among my people
for handfuls
of barley
and for pieces
of bread,
to slay
the souls
that should not die,
and to save
the souls alive
that should not live,
by your lying
to my people
that hear
your lies?
Now
the hand
of the LORD
was upon me
in the evening,
afore
he that
was escaped came;
and had opened
my mouth,
until he
came to me
in the morning;
and my mouth
was opened,
and I
was no more dumb.
The hand
of the LORD
was upon me,
and carried
me out
in the spirit
of the LORD,
and set me down
in the midst
of the valley
which was full of bones,
In the five
and twentieth year
of our captivity,
in the beginning
of the year,
in the tenth day
of the month,
in the fourteenth year
after that
the city
was smitten,
in the selfsame day
the hand
of the LORD
was upon me,
and brought me thither.
So the spirit
took me up,
and brought me
into the inner court;
and,
behold,
the glory
of the LORD
filled the house.
As for these four children,
God gave them knowledge
and skill
in all learning
and wisdom:
and Daniel
had
understanding in all visions
and dreams.
Then was
the secret
revealed
unto Daniel
in a night vision.
Then Daniel
blessed
the God
of heaven.
I came near
unto one
of them that stood by,
and asked him
the truth of all this.
So he
told me,
and made me
know the interpretation
of the things.
And I
heard
a man's voice
between the banks
of Ulai,
which called,
and said,
Gabriel,
make this man
to understand the vision.
In the first year
of his reign
I Daniel
understood
by books
the number
of the years,
whereof
the word
of the LORD
came
to Jeremiah the prophet,
that he
would accomplish seventy years
in the desolations
of Jerusalem.
Neither have
we hearkened
unto thy servants the prophets,
which spake in thy
name
to our kings,
our princes,
and our fathers,
and
to all the people
of the land.
Neither have
we obeyed
the voice
of the LORD our God,
to walk
in his laws,
which he set
before us
by his servants the prophets.
And
he informed me,
and
talked with me,
and said,
O Daniel,
I am now come forth
to give thee skill
and understanding.
And I Daniel alone
saw the vision:
for the men
that
were with me saw not
the vision;
but a great quaking
fell upon them,
so that
they fled
to hide themselves.
Therefore I
was left alone,
and saw
this great vision,
and there remained no strength
in me:
for my comeliness
was turned in me
into corruption,
and
I retained
no strength.
Yet heard
I the voice
of his words:
and
when I
heard
the voice
of his words,
then was
I in a deep sleep
on my face,
and my face
toward the ground.
The word
of the LORD
that came
unto Hosea,
the son of Beeri,
in the days
of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz,
and Hezekiah,
kings of Judah,
and in the days
of Jeroboam
the son of Joash,
king
of Israel.
I have also spoken
by the prophets,
and
I have multiplied
visions,
and used
similitudes,
by the ministry
of the prophets.
And it
shall come
to pass afterward,
that I
will pour out my spirit
upon all flesh;
and your sons
and your daughters
shall prophesy,
your old men
shall dream dreams,
your young men
shall see visions:
And also upon the servants
and upon the handmaids
in those days
will
I pour
out my spirit.
But ye
gave
the Nazarites wine
to drink;
and commanded
the prophets,
saying,
Prophesy not.
Surely the Lord GOD
will do nothing,
but he
revealeth
his secret
unto his servants the prophets.
Thus
he shewed me:
and,
behold,
the LORD
stood
upon a wall made
by a plumbline,
with a plumbline
in his hand.
Then answered Amos,
and said
to Amaziah,
I was no prophet,
neither was
I a prophet's son;
but
I was an herdman,
and a gatherer
of sycomore fruit:
And the LORD
took me as I
followed
the flock,
and the LORD
said unto me,
Go,
prophesy
unto my people Israel.
I saw
the LORD
standing
upon the altar:
and he said,
Smite the lintel
of the door,
that the posts
may shake:
and cut them
in the head,
all of them;
and I
will slay
the last
of them
with the sword:
he that
fleeth of them
shall not flee away,
and he
that escapeth of them
shall not be delivered.
And
the word
of the LORD
came
unto Jonah
the second time,
saying,
Arise,
go unto Nineveh,
that great city,
and preach
unto it
the preaching
that I bid thee.
Then shall
the seers
be ashamed,
and the diviners confounded:
yea,
they shall all cover
their lips;
for there is
no answer
of God.
But truly
I am full of
power
by the spirit
of the LORD,
and of judgment,
and of might,
to declare
unto Jacob
his transgression,
and
to Israel his sin.
O LORD,
I have heard
thy speech,
and was afraid:
O LORD,
revive thy
work
in the midst
of the years,
in the midst
of the years make known;
in wrath
remember mercy.
When I heard,
my belly trembled;
my lips
quivered
at the voice:
rottenness
entered
into my bones,
and I
trembled
in myself,
that I
might rest
in the day
of trouble:
when
he cometh up
unto the people,
he will invade them
with his troops.
Then spake Haggai
the LORD's messenger
in the LORD's message
unto the people,
saying,
I am with you,
saith the LORD.
Then said I,
O my lord,
what are these?
And the angel
that talked
with me said unto me,
I will shew thee
what these be.
And the LORD
answered
the angel
that talked
with me
with good words
and comfortable words.
So the angel
that communed
with me said unto me,
Cry thou,
saying,
Thus
saith
the LORD
of hosts;
I am jealous
for Jerusalem
and for Zion
with a great jealousy.
And I
said
unto the angel
that talked with me,
What be these?
And
he answered me,
These are the horns which
have scattered
Judah, Israel,
and Jerusalem.
For,
behold,
I will shake mine hand
upon them,
and they
shall be
a
spoil
to their servants:
and ye
shall know
that the LORD
of hosts
hath sent me.
Yea,
they made their hearts
as an adamant stone,
lest
they should hear
the law,
and the words
which the LORD
of hosts
hath sent
in his spirit
by the former prophets:
therefore came
a great wrath
from the LORD
of hosts.
And it
shall come
to pass,
that when any
shall yet prophesy,
then his father
and his mother
that begat him
shall say unto him,
Thou shalt not live;
for thou
speakest
lies
in the name
of the LORD:
and his father
and his mother
that begat him
shall thrust him
through
when
he prophesieth.
And
they
said unto him,
In Bethlehem
of Judaea:
for thus
it is written
by the prophet,
And
thou Bethlehem,
in the land
of Juda,
art not
the least
among the princes
of Juda:
for out of thee shall come
a Governor,
that shall rule
my people Israel.
For this
is he,
of whom
it is written,
Behold,
I send
my messenger
before thy face,
which shall prepare
thy way
before thee.
For all
the prophets
and the law
prophesied until John.
And
if ye
will receive it,
this is Elias,
which was for
to come.
And
they
were offended in him.
But Jesus
said unto them,
A prophet
is not
without honour,
save
in his own country,
and
in his own house.
And his disciples
asked him,
saying,
Why
then say
the scribes that Elias
must first come?
And Jesus
answered
and
said unto them,
Elias truly shall first come,
and restore
all things.
But
I say unto you,
That Elias
is come already,
and
they knew him not,
but have done
unto him whatsoever
they listed.
Likewise
shall also
the Son
of man
suffer of them.
Then the disciples
understood
that he
spake unto them of John
the Baptist.
All this
was done,
that it
might be fulfilled
which was spoken
by the prophet,
saying,
Tell
ye the daughter
of Sion, Behold,
thy King
cometh unto thee,
meek,
and sitting
upon an ass,
and a colt
the foal
of an ass.
O Jerusalem, Jerusalem,
thou
that killest the prophets,
and stonest them
which are sent
unto thee,
how often would
I have gathered
thy children
together,
even as
a hen
gathereth
her chickens
under her wings,
and ye would not!
Then saith
Jesus unto them, All
ye shall be offended
because of me this night:
for it
is written,
I will smite
the shepherd,
and the sheep
of the flock
shall be scattered abroad.
But all this
was done,
that the scriptures
of the prophets
might be fulfilled.
Then
all the disciples
forsook him,
and fled.
Then was fulfilled
that
which was spoken
by Jeremy
the prophet,
saying,
And they
took
the thirty pieces
of silver,
the price
of him that
was valued,
whom
they of the children
of Israel
did value;
And gave them
for the potter's field,
as the Lord
appointed me.
As it is written
in the prophets,
Behold,
I send
my messenger
before thy face,
which shall prepare
thy way
before thee.
And
they asked him,
saying,
Why say
the scribes that Elias
must first come?
And
he answered
and told them,
Elias verily cometh first,
and restoreth all things;
and
how it
is written
of the Son
of man,
that he
must suffer
many things,
and be set
at nought.
But
I say unto you,
That Elias
is indeed come,
and
they have done
unto him whatsoever
they listed,
as it
is written of him.
And again
he sent another;
and him
they killed,
and many others;
beating some,
and killing some.
For David himself
said by the Holy Ghost,
The LORD
said to my Lord,
Sit
thou
on my right hand,
till I
make
thine enemies thy footstool.
And Jesus
saith unto them,
All
ye shall be offended
because of me this night:
for it
is written,
I will smite
the shepherd,
and the sheep
shall be scattered.
And
they all forsook him,
and fled.
For he
shall be great
in the sight
of the Lord,
and shall drink neither wine
nor strong drink;
and
he shall be filled
with the Holy Ghost,
even from his mother's womb.
And many
of the children
of Israel
shall
he turn
to the Lord their God.
And he
shall go
before him
in the spirit
and power
of Elias,
to turn the hearts
of the fathers
to the children,
and the disobedient
to the wisdom
of the just;
to make ready
a people
prepared
for the Lord.
And his father Zacharias
was filled
with the Holy Ghost,
and prophesied,
saying,
Blessed
be the Lord God
of Israel;
for he
hath visited
and redeemed
his people,
And hath raised
up an horn
of salvation
for us
in the house
of his servant David;
As he
spake by the mouth
of his holy prophets,
which have been
since the world began:
And,
behold,
there was a man
in Jerusalem,
whose name
was Simeon;
and the same man
was just
and devout,
waiting
for the consolation
of Israel:
and the Holy Ghost
was upon him.
And it
was revealed
unto him
by the Holy Ghost,
that he
should not see death,
before he
had seen
the Lord's Christ.
And
he came
by the Spirit
into the temple:
and
when the parents
brought in
the child Jesus,
to do
for him
after the custom
of the law,
Annas
and Caiaphas
being the high priests,
the word
of God
came
unto John the son
of Zacharias
in the wilderness.
And he said,
Verily I
say unto you,
No prophet
is accepted
in his own country.
But I
tell you
of a truth,
many widows
were in Israel
in the days
of Elias,
when the heaven
was shut
up three years
and six months,
when great famine
was throughout all
the land;
But unto none of them
was
Elias sent,
save
unto Sarepta,
a city of Sidon,
unto a woman
that was a widow.
And many lepers
were in Israel
in the time
of Eliseus
the prophet;
and none of them
was cleansed,
saving Naaman
the Syrian.
This is he,
of whom
it is written,
Behold,
I send
my messenger
before thy face,
which shall prepare
thy way
before thee.
O Jerusalem, Jerusalem,
which killest the prophets,
and stonest them
that
are sent
unto thee;
how often would
I have gathered
thy children
together,
as a hen
doth gather
her brood
under her wings,
and ye would not!
There was
a man
sent from God,
whose name was John.
For Jesus himself testified,
that a prophet
hath
no honour
in his own country.
Hath not
the scripture said,
That Christ
cometh of the seed
of David,
and
out of the town
of Bethlehem,
where David was?
And Jesus,
when
he had found
a young ass,
sat thereon;
as it is written,
Fear not,
daughter of Sion:
behold,
thy King cometh,
sitting on an ass's colt.
And
again
another scripture saith,
They
shall look
on him whom they pierced.
And suddenly there came
a sound
from heaven
as of a
rushing mighty wind,
and it
filled all
the house
where they
were sitting.
And there appeared
unto them cloven tongues like as
of fire,
and it
sat
upon each
of them.
And
they were all filled
with the Holy Ghost,
and began
to speak
with other tongues,
as the Spirit
gave them utterance.
But those things,
which God
before had shewed
by the mouth
of all his prophets,
that Christ
should suffer,
he hath so fulfilled.
Who have received
the law
by the disposition
of angels,
and have not kept it.
But he,
being full of
the Holy Ghost,
looked up
stedfastly into heaven,
and saw
the glory
of God,
and Jesus
standing
on the right hand
of God,
Then the Spirit
said
unto Philip,
Go near,
and join thyself
to this chariot.
And
when
they were come up
out of the water,
the Spirit
of the Lord caught away Philip,
that the eunuch
saw him no more:
and he
went on
his way rejoicing.
And there stood up one
of them named Agabus,
and signified
by the Spirit
that there should be great dearth
throughout all the world:
which came
to pass
in the days
of Claudius Caesar.
Beware therefore,
lest
that come upon you,
which is spoken of
in the prophets;
Behold,
ye despisers,
and wonder,
and perish:
for I
work a work
in your days,
a work
which ye
shall in no wise believe,
though a man
declare it
unto you.
And finding disciples,
we tarried there
seven days:
who said
to Paul
through the Spirit,
that he
should not go
up to Jerusalem.
And as we
tarried there
many days,
there came down
from Judaea
a certain prophet,
named Agabus.
And
when
he was come unto us,
he took Paul's girdle,
and bound
his own
hands
and feet,
and said,
Thus saith the Holy Ghost,
So shall
the Jews
at Jerusalem
bind the man
that owneth this girdle,
and shall deliver him
into the hands
of the Gentiles.
And
when
they agreed not
among themselves,
they departed,
after that Paul
had spoken
one word,
Well
spake
the Holy Ghost
by Esaias
the prophet
unto our fathers,
Paul,
a servant
of Jesus Christ,
called to be
an apostle,
separated
unto the gospel
of God,
(Which
he had promised afore
by his prophets
in the holy scriptures,)
But
the manifestation
of the Spirit
is given
to every man
to profit withal.
For to one
is given
by the Spirit
the word
of wisdom;
to another
the word
of knowledge
by the same Spirit;
To another faith
by the same Spirit;
to another
the gifts
of healing
by the same Spirit;
To another
the working
of miracles;
to another prophecy;
to another
discerning
of spirits;
to another divers kinds
of tongues;
to another
the interpretation
of tongues:
But all these
worketh
that one
and the selfsame Spirit,
dividing
to every man
severally as he will.
And
the spirits
of the prophets
are subject to
the prophets.
Wherefore
then serveth the law?
It was added
because
of transgressions,
till the seed
should come
to whom the promise
was made;
and it
was ordained by angels
in the hand
of a mediator.
Who both
killed the Lord Jesus,
and their own prophets,
and have persecuted us;
and
they please not God,
and are contrary
to all men:
God,
who at sundry
times
and
in divers manners
spake
in time past
unto the fathers
by the prophets,
For if the word
spoken
by angels
was stedfast,
and every transgression
and disobedience
received
a
just recompence
of reward;
And Moses
verily was faithful
in all his house,
as a servant,
for a testimony
of those things
which were to be spoken after;
They were stoned,
they were sawn asunder,
were tempted,
were slain
with the sword:
they wandered about
in sheepskins
and goatskins;
being destitute,
afflicted,
tormented;
Whose voice
then shook the earth:
but now
he hath promised,
saying,
Yet once more
I shake not
the earth only,
but also heaven.
Take,
my brethren,
the prophets,
who have spoken
in the name
of the Lord,
for an example
of suffering affliction,
and
of patience.
Of which
salvation the prophets
have enquired
and searched diligently,
who prophesied
of the grace
that should come
unto you:
Searching what,
or what manner
of time
the Spirit
of Christ which
was
in them did signify,
when it
testified beforehand
the sufferings
of Christ,
and the glory
that should follow.
For the prophecy
came not
in old time
by the will
of man:
but holy men
of God
spake as they
were moved
by the Holy Ghost.
And Enoch also,
the seventh
from Adam,
prophesied
of these,
saying,
Behold,
the Lord
cometh with ten thousands of
his saints,
He that
hath an ear,
let him
hear
what the Spirit
saith unto the churches;
To him that
overcometh
will
I give
to eat
of the tree
of life,
which is in the midst
of the paradise
of God.
But in the days
of the voice
of the seventh angel,
when
he shall begin
to sound,
the mystery
of God
should be finished,
as he
hath declared
to his servants the prophets.
And I
heard
a voice
from heaven
saying unto me,
Write,
Blessed are the dead
which die
in the Lord
from henceforth:
Yea,
saith the Spirit,
that they
may rest
from their labours;
and their works
do follow them.
For they
have shed
the blood
of saints
and prophets,
and
thou hast given them blood
to drink;
for they
are worthy.
And
he said unto me,
These sayings
are faithful
and true:
and the Lord God
of the holy prophets
sent his angel
to shew
unto his servants
the things which
must shortly be done.
And I John
saw these things,
and heard them.
And
when I
had heard
and seen,
I fell down
to worship
before the feet
of the angel
which shewed me
these things.
