These are the generations
of Noah:
Noah was a
just man
and perfect
in his generations,
and Noah
walked
with God.
Thus did Noah;
according to all
that God
commanded him,
so did he.
And Noah
did
according
unto all
that the LORD
commanded him.
Now the LORD
had said
unto Abram,
Get thee
out of thy country,
and from thy kindred,
and from thy father's house,
unto a land
that I
will shew thee:
And
I will make
of thee
a great nation,
and
I will bless thee,
and make thy
name great;
and thou
shalt be
a blessing:
And
I will bless them
that
bless thee,
and curse him that
curseth thee:
and in thee
shall
all families
of the earth
be blessed.
So Abram departed,
as the LORD
had spoken unto him;
and Lot
went with him:
and Abram
was seventy
and five years old
when
he departed out of Haran.
And God
said
unto Abraham,
Thou
shalt keep
my covenant
therefore,
thou,
and thy
seed
after thee
in their generations.
And Abraham
took Ishmael
his son,
and all
that were born
in his house,
and all
that were bought
with his money,
every male
among the men
of Abraham's house;
and circumcised
the flesh
of their foreskin
in the selfsame day,
as God
had said unto him.
For I
know him,
that he
will command
his children
and his household
after him,
and
they shall keep
the way
of the LORD,
to do justice
and judgment;
that the LORD
may bring
upon Abraham
that which
he hath spoken of him.
And Abraham
circumcised
his son Isaac
being eight days old,
as God
had commanded him.
And he said,
Lay
not thine hand
upon the lad,
neither do
thou any thing
unto him:
for now
I know that
thou fearest God,
seeing
thou hast not withheld
thy son,
thine only son
from me.
Then Laban
and Bethuel
answered
and said,
The thing
proceedeth
from the LORD:
we cannot speak
unto thee bad
or good.
And God
said
unto Jacob, Arise,
go up to Bethel,
and dwell there:
and make there
an altar
unto God,
that appeared
unto thee
when
thou fleddest from the face
of Esau thy brother.
And
he built there
an altar,
and called
the place Elbethel:
because
there God
appeared unto him,
when
he fled
from the face
of his brother.
And Moses and
Aaron
did as the LORD
commanded them,
so did they.
And the children
of Israel went away,
and did as the LORD
had commanded Moses
and Aaron,
so did they.
Now therefore,
if ye
will obey
my voice indeed,
and keep
my covenant,
then ye
shall be
a peculiar treasure
unto me above all people:
for all
the earth
is mine:
And shewing mercy
unto thousands of
them that love me,
and keep
my commandments.
But
if thou
shalt indeed obey
his voice,
and do all
that
I speak;
then
I will be an enemy
unto thine enemies,
and an adversary
unto thine adversaries.
And he
took
the book
of the covenant,
and read
in the audience
of the people:
and they said,
All
that the LORD
hath said
will
we do,
and be obedient.
And
when Moses
saw
that the people
were naked;
(for Aaron
had made them naked
unto their shame
among their enemies:)
Then Moses
stood
in the gate
of the camp,
and said,
Who is
on the LORD's side?
let him
come unto me.
And all
the sons
of Levi
gathered themselves
together unto him.
And
he said unto them,
Thus
saith
the LORD God
of Israel,
Put every man
his sword
by his side,
and go in
and out
from gate to gate
throughout the camp,
and slay every man
his brother,
and every man
his companion,
and every man
his neighbour.
And the children
of Levi
did according to
the word
of Moses:
and there fell
of the people
that day
about three thousand men.
For Moses
had said,
Consecrate yourselves today
to the LORD,
even every man
upon his son,
and
upon his brother;
that he
may bestow
upon you a
blessing this day.
According to all
that the LORD
commanded Moses,
so the children
of Israel
made all
the work.
And Moses
did look upon all
the work,
and,
behold,
they
had done
it as the LORD
had commanded,
even so
had they
done it:
and Moses
blessed them.
Thus did Moses:
according to all
that the LORD
commanded him,
so did he.
And he
brought
the ark
into the tabernacle,
and set up
the vail
of the covering,
and covered
the ark
of the testimony;
as the LORD
commanded Moses.
And he set
the bread
in order
upon it
before the LORD;
as the LORD
had commanded Moses.
When
they went into the tent
of the congregation,
and
when
they came near
unto the altar,
they washed;
as the LORD
commanded Moses.
Just balances,
just weights,
a just ephah,
and a just hin,
shall
ye have:
I am the LORD
your God,
which brought you
out of the land
of Egypt.
Therefore shall
ye observe all
my statutes,
and all my judgments,
and do them:
I am the LORD.
And
ye shall keep
my statutes,
and do them:
I am the LORD
which sanctify you.
Ye shall therefore keep all
my statutes,
and all my judgments,
and do them:
that the land,
whither
I bring you
to dwell therein,
spue you
not out.
If ye
walk
in my statutes,
and keep
my commandments,
and do them;
Then I
will give
you rain
in due season,
and the land
shall yield
her increase,
and the trees
of the field
shall yield
their fruit.
And your threshing
shall reach
unto the vintage,
and the vintage
shall reach
unto the sowing time:
and ye
shall eat
your bread
to the full,
and dwell
in your land safely.
And
I will give peace
in the land,
and
ye shall lie down,
and none
shall make
you afraid:
and
I will rid evil beasts
out of the land,
neither shall
the sword
go
through your land.
And
ye shall chase
your enemies,
and
they shall fall
before you
by the sword.
And five of you
shall chase
an hundred,
and an hundred
of you
shall put ten thousand
to flight:
and your enemies
shall fall
before you
by the sword.
For I
will have
respect unto you,
and make
you fruitful,
and multiply you,
and establish my covenant
with you.
And
ye shall eat
old store,
and bring forth
the old
because
of the new.
And I set
my tabernacle
among you:
and my soul
shall not abhor you.
And
I will walk
among you,
and will be
your God,
and
ye shall be
my people.
I am the LORD
your God,
which brought
you forth
out of the land
of Egypt,
that ye
should not be
their bondmen;
and
I have broken
the bands
of your yoke,
and made you
go upright.
And so
it was,
when the cloud
was a
few days
upon the tabernacle;
according to the commandment
of the LORD
they abode
in their tents,
and
according to
the commandment
of the LORD
they journeyed.
And so
it was,
when the cloud abode from
even unto the morning,
and
that the cloud
was taken up
in the morning,
then
they journeyed:
whether it
was by day or by night
that the cloud
was taken up,
they journeyed.
At the commandment
of the LORD
they rested
in the tents,
and
at the commandment
of the LORD
they journeyed:
they kept the charge
of the LORD,
at the commandment
of the LORD
by the hand
of Moses.
But my servant Caleb,
because
he had
another spirit
with him,
and hath followed me fully,
him will
I bring
into the land whereinto
he went;
and his seed
shall possess it.
Speak
unto the children
of Israel,
and bid them that
they make them
fringes
in the borders
of their garments
throughout their generations,
and
that they put
upon the fringe
of the borders
a ribband
of blue:
And it
shall be unto you
for a fringe,
that ye
may look upon it,
and remember all
the commandments
of the LORD,
and do them;
and that
ye seek not
after your own heart
and your own eyes,
after which
ye use
to go a whoring:
That ye
may remember,
and do all
my commandments,
and be holy
unto your God.
And the LORD
said
unto Moses,
Get thee
up into this mount Abarim,
and see
the land
which I
have given
unto the children
of Israel.
And
when
thou hast seen it,
thou also shalt be gathered
unto thy people,
as Aaron
thy brother
was gathered.
For ye rebelled
against my commandment
in the desert
of Zin,
in the strife
of the congregation,
to sanctify me
at the water
before their eyes:
that is the water
of Meribah
in Kadesh
in the wilderness
of Zin.
And Moses
spake unto the LORD,
saying,
Let the LORD,
the God
of the spirits
of all flesh,
set a man
over the congregation,
Which may go out
before them,
and which
may go in
before them,
and
which may lead them out,
and
which may bring them in;
that the congregation
of the LORD
be not
as sheep which
have no shepherd.
And the LORD
said
unto Moses,
Take thee Joshua
the son of Nun,
a man
in whom is the spirit,
and lay
thine hand
upon him;
And set him
before Eleazar the priest,
and
before all
the congregation;
and give him
a charge
in their sight.
And
thou shalt put some of
thine
honour upon him,
that all
the congregation
of the children
of Israel
may be obedient.
And
he shall stand
before Eleazar
the priest,
who shall ask
counsel
for him
after the judgment
of Urim
before the LORD:
at his word
shall
they go out,
and at his word
they shall come in,
both he,
and all
the children
of Israel
with him,
even all
the congregation.
And Moses
did as the LORD
commanded him:
and
he took Joshua,
and set him
before Eleazar the priest,
and
before all
the congregation:
Save Caleb
the son
of Jephunneh;
he shall see it,
and to him
will
I give
the land
that he
hath trodden upon,
and to his children,
because
he hath wholly followed
the LORD.
Now therefore hearken,
O Israel,
unto the statutes
and unto the judgments,
which I
teach you,
for to do them,
that ye
may live,
and go in
and possess the land
which the LORD God
of your fathers
giveth you.
Ye shall not add
unto the word
which I
command you,
neither shall
ye diminish ought
from it,
that ye
may keep
the commandments
of the LORD your God
which I
command you.
Behold,
I have taught
you statutes
and judgments,
even as
the LORD my God
commanded me,
that ye
should do so
in the land
whither
ye go
to possess it.
Keep therefore
and do them;
for this
is your wisdom
and your understanding
in the sight
of the nations,
which shall hear all
these statutes,
and say,
Surely
this great nation
is a wise
and understanding people.
Only take
heed to thyself,
and keep
thy soul diligently,
lest
thou forget
the things
which thine
eyes
have seen,
and lest
they depart
from thy heart
all the days
of thy life:
but teach them
thy sons,
and thy sons' sons;
Specially the day
that thou
stoodest before the LORD
thy God in Horeb,
when the LORD
said unto me,
Gather me
the people
together,
and
I will make them
hear my words,
that they
may learn
to fear me all
the days
that they
shall live
upon the earth,
and
that they
may teach
their children.
Know therefore
this day,
and consider it
in thine heart,
that the LORD
he is God
in heaven above,
and
upon the earth
beneath:
there is none else.
Thou shalt keep therefore
his statutes,
and his commandments,
which I
command thee
this day,
that it
may go well
with thee,
and with thy children after thee,
and
that thou
mayest prolong
thy days
upon the earth,
which the LORD thy God
giveth thee,
for ever.
And Moses
called all Israel,
and
said unto them,
Hear, O Israel,
the statutes
and judgments which
I speak
in your ears
this day,
that ye
may learn them,
and keep,
and do them.
Ye shall observe
to do therefore
as the LORD
your God
hath commanded you:
ye shall not turn aside
to the right hand
or
to the left.
Ye shall walk
in all
the ways which the LORD
your God
hath commanded you,
that ye
may live,
and that it
may be well
with you,
and that
ye may prolong
your days
in the land
which ye
shall possess.
Now these
are the commandments,
the statutes,
and the judgments,
which the LORD your God
commanded
to teach you,
that ye
might do them
in the land
whither
ye go
to possess it:
That thou
mightest fear the LORD
thy God,
to keep all
his statutes
and his commandments,
which I
command thee,
thou,
and thy son,
and thy son's son,
all the days
of thy life;
and
that thy days
may be prolonged.
Hear therefore,
O Israel,
and observe
to do it;
that it
may be well
with thee,
and that
ye may increase mightily,
as the LORD God
of thy
fathers
hath promised thee,
in the land
that floweth with milk
and honey.
Hear,
O Israel:
The LORD our God
is one LORD:
And
thou shalt love
the LORD thy God
with all thine heart,
and
with all thy soul,
and with all
thy might.
And these words,
which I
command thee
this day,
shall be
in thine heart:
And
thou shalt teach them
diligently unto thy children,
and shalt talk
of them
when thou
sittest in thine house,
and when thou
walkest by the way,
and
when
thou liest down,
and
when
thou
risest up.
And
thou shalt bind them
for a sign
upon thine hand,
and they
shall be
as frontlets
between thine eyes.
And
thou shalt write them
upon the posts
of thy house,
and on thy gates.
All the commandments
which I
command thee
this day
shall
ye observe to do,
that ye
may live,
and multiply,
and go in
and possess
the land
which the LORD
sware unto your fathers.
And
thou shalt remember all
the way which the LORD
thy God
led thee
these forty years
in the wilderness,
to humble thee,
and to prove thee,
to know what
was in thine heart,
whether thou
wouldest keep
his commandments,
or no.
And
he humbled thee,
and suffered
thee to hunger,
and fed thee
with manna,
which thou
knewest not,
neither did
thy fathers know;
that he
might make
thee know
that man
doth not live
by bread only,
but by every
word that
proceedeth
out of the mouth
of the LORD
doth man live.
Thy raiment
waxed not old
upon thee,
neither did
thy foot swell,
these forty years.
Thou shalt also consider
in thine heart,
that,
as a man
chasteneth his son,
so the LORD
thy God
chasteneth thee.
Therefore thou
shalt keep
the commandments
of the LORD thy God,
to walk
in his ways,
and
to fear him.
Beware
that thou
forget not the LORD
thy God,
in not keeping
his commandments,
and his judgments,
and his statutes,
which I
command thee
this day:
Lest
when
thou hast eaten
and art full,
and hast built
goodly houses,
and dwelt
therein;
And
when thy
herds
and thy flocks multiply,
and thy silver
and thy gold
is multiplied,
and all
that thou
hast is multiplied;
Then thine heart
be lifted up,
and
thou forget
the LORD thy God,
which brought thee forth
out of the land
of Egypt,
from the house
of bondage;
Who fed thee
in the wilderness
with manna,
which thy
fathers
knew not,
that he
might humble thee,
and
that he
might prove thee,
to do thee good
at thy latter end;
And
thou say
in thine heart,
My power
and the might
of mine hand
hath gotten me
this wealth.
But
thou shalt remember
the LORD thy God:
for it
is
he that
giveth thee power
to get wealth,
that he
may establish
his covenant which
he sware unto thy fathers,
as it is this day.
And it
shall be,
if thou
do at all forget
the LORD thy God,
and walk
after other gods,
and serve them,
and worship them,
I testify
against you
this day
that ye
shall surely perish.
As the nations
which the LORD
destroyeth before your face,
so shall
ye perish;
because
ye would not be obedient
unto the voice
of the LORD your God.
And now,
Israel,
what doth
the LORD thy God
require
of thee,
but to fear
the LORD thy God,
to walk
in all his ways,
and to love him,
and
to serve the LORD
thy God
with all thy heart
and
with all thy soul,
To keep
the commandments
of the LORD,
and his statutes,
which I
command thee
this day
for thy good?
Therefore thou
shalt love the LORD
thy God,
and keep
his charge,
and his statutes,
and his judgments,
and his commandments,
alway.
And know
ye this day:
for I
speak not
with your children
which have not known,
and
which have not seen
the chastisement
of the LORD your God,
his greatness,
his mighty hand,
and his stretched out arm,
And his miracles,
and his acts,
which he
did in the midst
of Egypt
unto Pharaoh
the king
of Egypt,
and
unto all his land;
Therefore shall
ye keep all
the commandments
which I
command
you this day,
that ye
may be strong,
and go in
and possess
the land,
whither
ye go
to possess it;
And
that ye
may prolong
your days
in the land,
which the LORD
sware
unto your fathers
to give
unto them and
to their seed,
a land that
floweth with milk
and honey.
And it
shall come
to pass,
if ye
shall hearken diligently
unto my commandments
which I
command
you this day,
to love the LORD
your God,
and
to serve him
with all your heart
and
with all your soul,
That I
will give
you the rain
of your land
in his due season,
the first rain
and the latter rain,
that thou
mayest gather
in thy corn,
and thy wine,
and thine oil.
And
I will send grass
in thy
fields for thy cattle,
that thou
mayest eat
and be full.
And
then the LORD's wrath
be kindled
against you,
and he shut
up the heaven,
that there be
no rain,
and
that the land
yield
not her fruit;
and lest
ye perish quickly from
off the good land
which the LORD
giveth you.
Therefore shall
ye lay up
these my words
in your heart
and in your soul,
and bind them
for a sign
upon your hand,
that they
may be as frontlets
between your eyes.
And
ye shall teach them
your children,
speaking of them
when thou
sittest in thine house,
and when thou
walkest by the way,
when
thou liest down,
and
when
thou
risest up.
And
thou shalt write them
upon the door posts
of thine house,
and upon thy gates:
That your days
may be multiplied,
and the days
of your children,
in the land
which the LORD
sware unto your fathers
to give them,
as the days
of heaven
upon the earth.
For if
ye shall diligently keep all
these commandments
which I
command you,
to do them,
to love the LORD
your God,
to walk
in all his ways,
and to cleave unto him;
Then will
the LORD
drive
out all these nations from
before you,
and
ye shall possess greater nations
and mightier
than yourselves.
Every place whereon
the soles
of your feet
shall tread
shall be yours:
from the wilderness
and Lebanon,
from the river,
the river Euphrates,
even unto the uttermost sea
shall your coast be.
There shall no man
be able
to stand
before you:
for the LORD
your God
shall lay the fear
of you
and the dread
of you
upon all
the land
that ye
shall tread upon,
as he
hath said
unto you.
Behold,
I set before you
this day
a blessing
and a curse;
A blessing,
if ye
obey
the commandments
of the LORD your God,
which I
command
you this day:
And a curse,
if ye
will not obey
the commandments
of the LORD your God,
but turn
aside out of the way which
I command
you this day,
to go
after other gods,
which ye
have not known.
And
ye shall observe
to do all
the statutes
and judgments which
I set before you
this day.
Ye shall walk
after the LORD
your God,
and fear him,
and keep
his commandments,
and obey
his voice,
and
ye shall serve him,
and
cleave unto him.
This day
the LORD thy God
hath commanded thee to do
these statutes
and judgments:
thou shalt therefore keep
and do them
with all thine heart,
and
with all thy soul.
Thou hast avouched
the LORD
this day
to be thy God,
and
to walk
in his ways,
and to keep
his statutes,
and his commandments,
and his judgments,
and to hearken
unto his voice:
And the LORD
hath avouched thee
this day
to be his peculiar people,
as he
hath promised thee,
and
that thou
shouldest keep all
his commandments;
And Moses
with the elders
of Israel
commanded
the people,
saying,
Keep all
the commandments
which I
command
you this day.
And it
shall be
on the day
when ye
shall pass
over Jordan
unto the land
which the LORD thy God
giveth thee,
that thou
shalt set thee
up great stones,
and plaister them
with plaister:
And
thou shalt write
upon them all
the words
of this law,
when
thou art
passed over,
that thou
mayest go in
unto the land
which the LORD thy God
giveth thee,
a land that
floweth with milk
and honey;
as the LORD God
of thy
fathers
hath promised thee.
Therefore it
shall be
when
ye be gone over Jordan,
that ye
shall set up
these stones,
which I
command
you this day,
in mount Ebal,
and
thou shalt plaister them
with plaister.
And there shalt
thou build
an altar
unto the LORD thy God,
an altar
of stones:
thou shalt not lift
up any iron tool
upon them.
Thou shalt build
the altar
of the LORD
thy God
of whole stones:
and
thou shalt offer
burnt offerings
thereon unto the LORD thy God:
And
thou shalt offer
peace offerings,
and shalt eat there,
and rejoice
before the LORD thy God.
And
thou shalt write
upon the stones all the words
of this law
very plainly.
And Moses
and the priests
the Levites
spake unto all Israel,
saying,
Take heed,
and hearken,
O Israel;
this day thou
art become
the people
of the LORD thy God.
Thou shalt therefore obey
the voice
of the LORD thy God,
and do
his commandments
and his statutes,
which I
command thee
this day.
And it
shall come
to pass,
if thou
shalt hearken diligently
unto the voice
of the LORD thy God,
to observe and
to do all
his commandments
which I
command thee
this day,
that the LORD
thy God
will set thee
on high above all nations
of the earth:
And all these blessings
shall come
on thee,
and overtake thee,
if thou
shalt hearken
unto the voice
of the LORD thy God.
Blessed shalt thou
be in the city,
and blessed
shalt thou
be in the field.
Blessed
shall be
the fruit
of thy body,
and the fruit
of thy ground,
and the fruit
of thy cattle,
the increase
of thy kine,
and the flocks
of thy sheep.
Blessed
shall be
thy basket and thy store.
Blessed
shalt
thou be
when
thou comest in,
and blessed
shalt
thou be
when
thou
goest out.
The LORD
shall cause
thine enemies
that rise up
against thee
to be smitten
before thy face:
they shall come out
against thee one way,
and flee
before thee seven ways.
The LORD
shall command the blessing
upon thee
in thy storehouses,
and in all
that thou
settest thine hand unto;
and
he shall bless thee
in the land
which the LORD thy God
giveth thee.
The LORD
shall establish thee
an holy people
unto himself,
as he
hath sworn
unto thee,
if thou
shalt keep
the commandments
of the LORD thy God,
and walk
in his ways.
And
all people
of the earth
shall see that
thou art
called
by the name
of the LORD;
and
they shall be afraid
of thee.
And the LORD
shall make thee plenteous
in goods,
in the fruit
of thy body,
and
in the fruit
of thy cattle,
and
in the fruit
of thy ground,
in the land
which the LORD
sware unto thy
fathers to give thee.
The LORD
shall open
unto thee
his good treasure,
the heaven
to give
the rain unto thy
land
in his season,
and
to bless all the work
of thine hand:
and
thou shalt lend
unto many nations,
and
thou shalt not borrow.
And the LORD
shall make
thee the head,
and not
the tail;
and
thou shalt be above only,
and
thou
shalt not be beneath;
if that thou
hearken
unto the commandments
of the LORD thy God,
which I
command thee
this day,
to observe and
to do them:
And
thou shalt not go aside
from any of the words
which I
command thee
this day,
to the right hand,
or to the left,
to go
after other gods
to serve them.
But it
shall come
to pass,
if thou
wilt not hearken
unto the voice
of the LORD thy God,
to observe
to do all
his commandments
and his statutes
which I
command thee
this day;
that all these curses
shall come upon thee,
and overtake thee:
Cursed shalt thou
be in the city,
and cursed
shalt thou
be in the field.
Cursed
shall be
thy basket and thy store.
Cursed
shall be
the fruit
of thy body,
and the fruit
of thy land,
the increase
of thy kine,
and the flocks
of thy sheep.
Cursed
shalt
thou be
when
thou comest in,
and cursed
shalt
thou be
when
thou
goest out.
The LORD
shall send
upon thee cursing,
vexation,
and rebuke,
in all
that thou
settest thine hand unto
for to do,
until thou
be destroyed,
and
until thou
perish quickly;
because
of the wickedness
of thy doings,
whereby
thou hast forsaken me.
The LORD
shall make
the pestilence
cleave unto thee,
until he
have consumed thee from
off the land,
whither
thou goest
to possess it.
The LORD
shall smite thee
with a consumption,
and with a fever,
and
with an inflammation,
and
with an extreme burning,
and
with the sword,
and
with blasting,
and with mildew;
and
they shall pursue thee
until thou perish.
And thy heaven
that is over thy
head
shall be brass,
and the earth
that is
under thee shall be iron.
The LORD
shall make
the rain of thy
land
powder and dust:
from heaven
shall it come down
upon thee,
until thou
be destroyed.
The LORD
shall cause
thee
to be smitten
before thine enemies:
thou shalt go out
one way
against them,
and flee seven ways
before them:
and shalt be removed
into all
the kingdoms
of the earth.
And thy carcase
shall be meat
unto all fowls
of the air,
and
unto the beasts
of the earth,
and no man
shall fray them away.
The LORD
will smite thee
with the botch
of Egypt,
and
with the emerods,
and
with the scab,
and
with the itch,
whereof
thou canst
not be healed.
The LORD
shall smite thee
with madness,
and blindness,
and astonishment
of heart:
And
thou shalt grope
at noonday,
as the blind
gropeth in darkness,
and
thou shalt not prosper
in thy ways:
and
thou shalt be only oppressed
and spoiled evermore,
and no man
shall save thee.
Thou shalt betroth
a wife,
and another man
shall lie
with her:
thou shalt build
an house,
and
thou shalt not dwell
therein:
thou shalt plant
a vineyard,
and
shalt not gather
the grapes thereof.
Thine ox
shall be slain
before thine eyes,
and
thou shalt not eat
thereof:
thine ass
shall be violently taken away from
before thy face,
and shall not be restored
to thee:
thy sheep
shall be given
unto thine enemies,
and
thou shalt have none
to rescue them.
Thy sons
and thy daughters
shall be given
unto another people,
and thine
eyes
shall look,
and fail
with longing for them all
the day long;
and there shall be
no
might in thine hand.
The fruit
of thy land,
and all thy labours,
shall a nation which
thou knowest
not eat up;
and
thou shalt be only oppressed
and crushed alway:
So that
thou shalt be mad
for the sight
of thine
eyes which
thou shalt see.
The LORD
shall smite thee
in the knees,
and in the legs,
with a sore
botch that
cannot be healed,
from the sole
of thy
foot
unto the top
of thy head.
The LORD
shall bring thee,
and thy king
which thou
shalt set
over thee,
unto a nation which neither
thou nor
thy fathers
have known;
and there shalt thou
serve other gods,
wood and stone.
And
thou shalt become
an astonishment,
a proverb,
and a byword,
among all nations
whither
the LORD
shall lead thee.
Thou shalt carry
much seed out
into the field,
and shalt gather
but little in;
for the locust
shall consume it.
Thou shalt plant
vineyards,
and dress them,
but shalt neither drink
of the wine,
nor gather
the grapes;
for the worms
shall eat them.
Thou shalt have olive trees
throughout all
thy coasts,
but
thou shalt not anoint thyself
with the oil;
for thine olive
shall cast
his fruit.
Thou shalt beget sons
and daughters,
but
thou shalt not enjoy them;
for they
shall go
into captivity.
All thy trees
and fruit of thy
land
shall
the locust consume.
The stranger
that is
within thee
shall get up
above thee very high;
and
thou shalt come
down very low.
He shall lend
to thee,
and
thou shalt not lend
to him:
he shall be
the head,
and
thou shalt be
the tail.
Moreover all
these curses
shall come upon thee,
and shall pursue thee,
and overtake thee,
till thou
be destroyed;
because
thou hearkenedst not
unto the voice
of the LORD thy God,
to keep
his commandments
and his statutes
which he
commanded thee:
And
they shall be
upon thee
for a sign
and for a wonder,
and upon thy
seed for ever.
Because
thou servedst not
the LORD
thy God
with joyfulness,
and with gladness
of heart,
for the abundance
of all things;
Therefore shalt thou
serve thine enemies
which the LORD
shall send
against thee,
in hunger,
and in thirst,
and in nakedness,
and
in want
of all things:
and he
shall put
a yoke
of iron
upon thy neck,
until he
have destroyed thee.
The LORD
shall bring a nation
against thee
from far,
from the end
of the earth,
as swift
as the eagle flieth;
a nation whose tongue
thou shalt not understand;
A nation
of fierce countenance,
which shall not regard
the person
of the old,
nor shew
favour
to the young:
And he
shall eat
the fruit
of thy cattle,
and the fruit
of thy land,
until thou
be destroyed:
which also shall not leave
thee either corn,
wine,
or oil,
or the increase
of thy kine,
or flocks
of thy sheep,
until he
have destroyed thee.
And
he shall besiege thee
in all
thy gates,
until thy high
and fenced
walls come down,
wherein thou trustedst,
throughout all
thy land:
and
he shall besiege thee
in all
thy gates
throughout all
thy land,
which the LORD thy God
hath given thee.
And
thou shalt eat
the fruit
of thine own body,
the flesh
of thy sons
and of thy daughters,
which the LORD thy God
hath given thee,
in the siege,
and
in the straitness,
wherewith
thine enemies
shall distress thee:
So that
the man
that is
tender among you,
and very delicate,
his eye
shall be evil
toward his brother,
and
toward the wife
of his bosom,
and
toward the remnant
of his children
which he
shall leave:
So that
he will not give
to any of them
of the flesh
of his children whom
he shall eat:
because
he hath nothing
left him
in the siege,
and
in the straitness,
wherewith
thine enemies
shall distress thee
in all thy gates.
The tender
and delicate woman
among you,
which would not adventure
to set
the sole
of her foot
upon the ground
for delicateness
and tenderness,
her eye
shall be evil
toward the husband
of her bosom,
and
toward her son,
and
toward her daughter,
And
toward her young one
that cometh out from
between her feet,
and toward her children
which she
shall bear:
for she
shall eat them
for want
of all things
secretly in the siege
and straitness,
wherewith
thine enemy
shall distress thee
in thy gates.
If thou
wilt not observe
to do all
the words
of this law
that are written
in this book,
that thou
mayest fear
this glorious
and fearful name,
THE LORD THY GOD;
Then the LORD
will make
thy plagues wonderful,
and the plagues
of thy seed,
even great plagues,
and
of long continuance,
and sore sicknesses,
and
of long continuance.
Moreover he
will bring
upon thee all
the diseases
of Egypt,
which thou
wast afraid of;
and
they shall cleave
unto thee.
Also every sickness,
and every plague,
which is not written
in the book
of this law,
them will
the LORD
bring upon thee,
until thou
be destroyed.
And
ye shall be left few
in number,
whereas
ye were as the stars
of heaven
for multitude;
because
thou wouldest not obey
the voice
of the LORD thy God.
And it
shall come
to pass,
that as the LORD
rejoiced
over you to do
you good,
and
to multiply you;
so the LORD
will rejoice
over you
to destroy you,
and
to bring you
to nought;
and
ye shall be plucked from
off the land
whither
thou goest
to possess it.
And the LORD
shall scatter thee
among all people,
from the one end
of the earth
even unto the other;
and there
thou shalt serve
other gods,
which neither
thou nor
thy fathers
have known,
even wood
and stone.
And
among these nations
shalt
thou find
no ease,
neither shall
the sole of thy
foot
have rest:
but the LORD
shall give thee
there a trembling heart,
and failing
of eyes,
and sorrow
of mind:
And thy life
shall hang
in doubt
before thee;
and
thou shalt fear
day and night,
and shalt have
none assurance
of thy life:
In the morning
thou shalt say,
Would God it
were even!
and at even thou
shalt say,
Would God it
were morning!
for the fear
of thine heart
wherewith
thou shalt fear,
and
for the sight
of thine
eyes which
thou shalt see.
And the LORD
shall bring thee
into Egypt
again with ships,
by the way
whereof
I spake unto thee,
Thou shalt see it no
more again:
and there
ye shall be sold
unto your enemies
for bondmen
and bondwomen,
and no man
shall buy you.
And
he said unto them,
Set your hearts
unto all the words which
I testify
among you
this day,
which ye
shall command
your children
to observe to do,
all the words
of this law.
Who said
unto his father
and to his mother,
I have not seen him;
neither did
he acknowledge
his brethren,
nor knew
his own children:
for they
have observed
thy word,
and kept
thy covenant.
So Joshua
smote all
the country
of the hills,
and of the south,
and of the vale,
and
of the springs,
and all
their kings:
he left
none remaining,
but utterly destroyed all
that breathed,
as the LORD God
of Israel commanded.
As the LORD
commanded Moses
his servant,
so did
Moses
command Joshua,
and so
did Joshua;
he left nothing
undone
of all
that the LORD
commanded Moses.
And
said unto them,
Ye have kept all
that Moses the servant
of the LORD
commanded you,
and have obeyed
my voice
in all
that
I commanded you:
Ye have not left
your brethren
these many days
unto this day,
but have kept
the charge
of the commandment
of the LORD your God.
But take diligent
heed
to do the commandment
and the law,
which Moses the servant
of the LORD
charged you,
to love the LORD
your God,
and
to walk
in all his ways,
and to keep
his commandments,
and to cleave unto him,
and
to serve him
with all your heart
and
with all your soul.
Be ye
therefore very courageous
to keep and
to do
all that is written
in the book
of the law
of Moses,
that ye
turn not
aside therefrom to the right hand
or
to the left;
That ye come not
among these nations,
these that
remain
among you;
neither make
mention
of the name
of their gods,
nor cause
to swear by them,
neither serve them,
nor
bow yourselves unto them:
Now therefore
fear the LORD,
and serve him
in sincerity
and in truth:
and put away
the gods
which your fathers
served
on the other side
of the flood,
and in Egypt;
and serve
ye the LORD.
And
if it
seem evil
unto you
to serve the LORD,
choose you this day whom
ye will serve;
whether the gods
which your fathers
served
that were on the other side
of the flood,
or the gods
of the Amorites,
in whose land
ye dwell:
but as for me and
my house,
we will serve
the LORD.
And the people
served
the LORD all
the days
of Joshua,
and all
the days
of the elders
that outlived
Joshua,
who had seen all
the great works
of the LORD,
that he
did for Israel.
And it
came
to pass
the same night,
that the LORD
said unto him,
Take thy
father's young bullock,
even the second bullock
of seven years old,
and throw
down the altar
of Baal
that thy father hath,
and cut down
the grove
that is by it:
And build
an altar
unto the LORD thy God
upon the top
of this rock,
in the ordered place,
and take
the second bullock,
and offer a
burnt
sacrifice
with the wood
of the grove which
thou shalt cut down.
Then Gideon
took ten men
of his servants,
and did as the LORD
had said unto him:
and so
it was,
because
he feared
his father's household,
and the men
of the city,
that he
could not do it
by day,
that he
did it
by night.
And
when the men
of the city
arose early
in the morning,
behold,
the altar
of Baal
was cast down,
and the grove
was cut down
that
was by it,
and the second bullock
was offered
upon the altar
that was built.
Only fear
the LORD,
and serve him
in truth
with all your heart:
for consider how
great things
he hath done
for you.
And Samuel said,
Hath the LORD
as great delight
in burnt offerings
and sacrifices,
as in obeying
the voice
of the LORD?
Behold,
to obey
is better
than sacrifice,
and to hearken than
the fat
of rams.
And David
behaved
himself
wisely in all his ways;
and the LORD
was with him.
I pray thee,
forgive the trespass
of thine handmaid:
for the LORD
will certainly make my lord
a sure house;
because
my lord
fighteth
the battles
of the LORD,
and evil
hath not been found
in thee all thy days.
And
if thou
wilt walk
in my ways,
to keep
my statutes
and my commandments,
as thy
father David
did walk,
then
I will lengthen
thy days.
And Solomon
did evil
in the sight
of the LORD,
and went not
fully after the LORD,
as did David
his father.
Howbeit
I will not take
the whole kingdom
out of his hand:
but
I will make him prince all
the days
of his life
for David
my servant's sake,
whom
I chose,
because
he kept
my commandments
and my statutes:
Because David
did that which
was right
in the eyes
of the LORD,
and turned not
aside from any thing
that he
commanded him all
the days
of his life,
save
only in the matter
of Uriah the Hittite.
So he
departed thence,
and found Elisha
the son
of Shaphat,
who was plowing
with twelve yoke
of oxen
before him,
and
he with the twelfth:
and Elijah
passed by him,
and cast
his mantle
upon him.
And
he left the oxen,
and ran after Elijah,
and said,
Let me,
I pray thee,
kiss my father
and my mother,
and
then
I will follow thee.
And
he said unto him,
Go back again:
for what
have
I done
to thee?
And
he returned
back from him,
and took
a yoke
of oxen,
and slew them,
and boiled
their flesh
with the instruments
of the oxen,
and gave unto the people,
and they did eat.
Then he arose,
and went after Elijah,
and
ministered unto him.
And the statutes,
and the ordinances,
and the law,
and the commandment,
which he
wrote for you,
ye shall observe
to do
for evermore;
and
ye shall not fear
other gods.
And the covenant that
I have made
with you
ye shall not forget;
neither shall
ye fear
other gods.
For he clave
to the LORD,
and departed not
from following him,
but kept
his commandments,
which the LORD
commanded Moses.
I beseech thee,
O LORD,
remember now how
I have walked
before thee
in truth
and with a perfect heart,
and have done
that which
is good
in thy sight.
And Hezekiah
wept sore.
Neither will
I make
the feet
of Israel
move any more
out of the land
which I
gave their fathers;
only if
they will observe
to do according to all
that
I have commanded them,
and
according to all
the law
that my servant Moses
commanded them.
And he
did that which
was right
in the sight
of the LORD,
and walked
in all the way
of David his father,
and turned not
aside to the right hand
or
to the left.
Moreover the workers
with familiar spirits,
and the wizards,
and the images,
and the idols,
and all
the abominations
that were spied
in the land
of Judah
and in Jerusalem,
did Josiah put away,
that he
might perform
the words
of the law
which were written
in the book
that Hilkiah the priest
found
in the house
of the LORD.
And like
unto him was there no king
before him,
that turned
to the LORD
with all his heart,
and
with all his soul,
and
with all his might,
according to all
the law of Moses;
neither after him
arose there any like him.
Be ye mindful
always of his covenant;
the word
which he
commanded
to a thousand generations;
And thou,
Solomon my son,
know
thou the God
of thy father,
and serve him
with a perfect heart
and
with a willing mind:
for the LORD
searcheth all hearts,
and understandeth all
the imaginations
of the thoughts:
if thou
seek him,
he will be found
of thee;
but
if thou
forsake him,
he will cast thee off
for ever.
Take heed now;
for the LORD
hath chosen thee
to build an house
for the sanctuary:
be strong,
and do it.
And David
said
to Solomon
his son,
Be strong and
of good courage,
and do it:
fear not,
nor be dismayed:
for the LORD God,
even my God,
will be
with thee;
he will not fail thee,
nor forsake thee,
until thou
hast finished all the work
for the service
of the house
of the LORD.
And Asa
did that which
was good
and right
in the eyes
of the LORD his God:
And the LORD
was with Jehoshaphat,
because
he walked
in the first ways
of his father David,
and sought not
unto Baalim;
But sought
to the Lord God
of his father,
and walked
in his commandments,
and
not after the doings
of Israel.
Therefore
the LORD stablished
the kingdom
in his hand;
and all Judah
brought
to Jehoshaphat presents;
and he
had riches
and honour
in abundance.
And his heart
was lifted up in the ways
of the LORD:
moreover he
took away
the high places
and groves
out of Judah.
And he
walked
in the way
of Asa
his father,
and departed not
from it,
doing
that which
was right
in the sight
of the LORD.
And
he sought Ahaziah:
and
they caught him,
(for he
was hid in Samaria,)
and brought him
to Jehu:
and
when
they had slain him,
they buried him:
Because,
said they,
he is the son
of Jehoshaphat,
who sought the LORD
with all his heart.
So the house
of Ahaziah
had no
power
to keep still the kingdom.
And
they buried him
in the city
of David
among the kings,
because
he had done good
in Israel,
both toward God,
and
toward his house.
And he
did that which
was right
in the sight
of the LORD,
according to all
that his father Amaziah did.
And he
sought God
in the days
of Zechariah,
who had
understanding in the visions of God:
and as long as he
sought the LORD,
God made him
to prosper.
And he
did that which
was right
in the sight
of the LORD,
according to all
that his father Uzziah did:
howbeit
he entered not
into the temple
of the LORD.
And the people
did
yet corruptly.
And he
did that which
was right
in the sight
of the LORD,
according to all
that David his father
had done.
But the priests
were too few,
so that
they could not flay all
the burnt offerings:
wherefore
their brethren
the Levites
did help them,
till the work
was ended,
and
until the other priests
had sanctified themselves:
for the Levites
were more upright
in heart
to sanctify themselves
than the priests.
And thus
did Hezekiah
throughout all Judah,
and wrought
that which
was good
and right
and truth
before the LORD his God.
And in every
work
that he
began in the service
of the house
of God,
and in the law,
and
in the commandments,
to seek his God,
he did it
with all his heart,
and prospered.
Now in the first year
of Cyrus king
of Persia,
that the word
of the LORD spoken
by the mouth
of Jeremiah
might be accomplished,
the LORD
stirred
up the spirit
of Cyrus king
of Persia,
that he
made
a proclamation
throughout all his kingdom,
and put it
also in writing,
saying,
Thus saith Cyrus king
of Persia,
All
the kingdoms
of the earth
hath
the LORD God
of heaven
given me;
and
he hath charged me
to build him an house
in Jerusalem,
which is in Judah.
Who is there
among you
of all
his people?
The LORD his God
be with him,
and let him go up.
Now in the first year
of Cyrus king
of Persia,
that the word
of the LORD
by the mouth
of Jeremiah
might be fulfilled,
the LORD
stirred
up the spirit
of Cyrus king
of Persia,
that he
made
a proclamation
throughout all his kingdom,
and put it
also in writing,
saying,
Thus saith Cyrus king
of Persia,
The LORD God
of heaven
hath given me all the kingdoms
of the earth;
and
he hath charged me
to build him an house
at Jerusalem,
which is in Judah.
Who is there
among you
of all
his people?
his God
be with him,
and let him
go up to Jerusalem,
which is in Judah,
and build
the house
of the LORD God
of Israel,
(he is the God,)
which is in Jerusalem.
And whosoever
remaineth in any place
where he sojourneth,
let the men
of his place
help him
with silver,
and with gold,
and with goods,
and with beasts,
beside the freewill offering
for the house
of God
that is
in Jerusalem.
For Ezra
had prepared
his heart
to seek the law
of the LORD,
and to do it,
and
to teach
in Israel statutes
and judgments.
And said,
I beseech thee,
O LORD God
of heaven,
the great
and terrible God,
that keepeth covenant
and mercy
for them that love him
and observe
his commandments:
That I
gave my brother Hanani,
and Hananiah
the ruler
of the palace,
charge
over Jerusalem:
for he
was a faithful man,
and feared
God above many.
And foundest
his heart faithful
before thee,
and madest a covenant
with him
to give the land
of the Canaanites,
the Hittites,
the Amorites,
and the Perizzites,
and the Jebusites,
and the Girgashites,
to give it,
I say,
to his seed,
and hast performed
thy words;
for thou art righteous:
And the LORD
said
unto Satan,
Hast
thou considered
my servant Job,
that there is none like him
in the earth,
a perfect
and an upright man,
one that
feareth God,
and escheweth evil?
But his delight
is in the law
of the LORD;
and in his law
doth
he meditate
day and night.
Thou hast proved
mine heart;
thou hast visited me
in the night;
thou hast tried me,
and shalt find
nothing;
I am purposed
that my mouth
shall not transgress.
As soon as they
hear of me,
they shall obey me:
the strangers
shall submit themselves unto me.
All
the paths
of the LORD
are mercy
and truth
unto such as keep
his covenant
and his testimonies.
For thy lovingkindness
is before mine eyes:
and
I have walked
in thy truth.
I have not
sat
with vain persons,
neither will
I go in
with dissemblers.
I have hated
the congregation
of evil doers;
and will not sit
with the wicked.
I will wash
mine
hands in innocency:
so will
I compass
thine altar,
O LORD:
Vow,
and pay
unto the LORD your God:
let all
that be round
about him bring
presents unto him that
ought to be feared.
He spake unto them
in the cloudy pillar:
they kept
his testimonies,
and the ordinance that
he gave them.
I will behave myself
wisely in a perfect way.
O when
wilt
thou
come unto me?
I will walk within my house
with a perfect heart.
I will set
no wicked thing
before mine eyes:
I hate
the work
of them that turn aside;
it shall not cleave to me.
But
the mercy
of the LORD
is from everlasting to everlasting
upon them that fear him,
and his righteousness
unto children's children;
To such as keep his covenant,
and to those
that remember
his commandments
to do them.
Bless the LORD,
ye his angels,
that excel
in strength,
that do
his commandments,
hearkening
unto the voice
of his word.
Bless
ye the LORD,
all ye
his hosts;
ye ministers
of his,
that do
his pleasure.
Then stood up
Phinehas,
and executed
judgment:
and so
the plague
was stayed.
And that
was counted
unto him
for righteousness
unto all generations
for evermore.
The fear
of the LORD
is the beginning
of wisdom:
a good understanding
have all
they that
do his commandments:
his praise
endureth for ever.
Praise ye the LORD.
Blessed is the man
that feareth the LORD,
that delighteth greatly
in his commandments.
Blessed
are
they that
keep
his testimonies,
and
that seek him
with the whole heart.
Thou hast commanded us
to keep
thy precepts diligently.
O that
my ways
were directed
to keep thy statutes!
Then shall
I not be ashamed,
when
I have
respect
unto all
thy commandments.
I will keep
thy statutes:
O forsake me
not utterly.
With my whole heart
have
I sought thee:
O let me
not wander
from thy commandments.
I will meditate
in thy precepts,
and have
respect unto thy ways.
I will delight myself
in thy statutes:
I will not forget
thy word.
Remove from me reproach
and contempt;
for I
have kept
thy testimonies.
I have chosen
the way
of truth:
thy judgments
have
I laid
before me.
I have stuck
unto thy testimonies:
O LORD,
put me not
to shame.
Teach me,
O LORD,
the way
of thy statutes;
and
I shall keep it
unto the end.
Behold,
I have longed
after thy precepts:
quicken me
in thy righteousness.
So shall
I keep
thy law
continually for ever
and ever.
And
I will walk
at liberty:
for I
seek thy precepts.
And
I will delight myself
in thy commandments,
which I
have loved.
My hands
also will
I lift up
unto thy commandments,
which I
have loved;
and
I will meditate
in thy statutes.
The proud
have had me
greatly in derision:
yet have
I not declined
from thy law.
Thy statutes
have been my songs
in the house
of my pilgrimage.
I have remembered
thy name,
O LORD,
in the night,
and have kept
thy law.
This
I had,
because
I kept
thy precepts.
I thought
on my ways,
and turned
my feet
unto thy testimonies.
I made haste,
and delayed not
to keep
thy commandments.
Before I
was afflicted
I went astray:
but now have
I kept
thy word.
The proud
have forged a lie
against me:
but I
will keep
thy precepts
with my whole heart.
The law of thy
mouth
is better
unto me than
thousands of gold
and silver.
Let thy
tender mercies
come unto me,
that I
may live:
for thy law is my delight.
They had almost consumed me
upon earth;
but
I forsook not
thy precepts.
O how
I love thy law!
it is
my meditation all the day.
I understand more than
the ancients,
because
I keep
thy precepts.
I have refrained
my feet
from every evil way,
that I
might keep thy word.
I have not departed
from thy judgments:
for thou
hast taught me.
Through thy precepts
I get
understanding:
therefore I
hate
every false way.
Thy word
is a lamp
unto my feet,
and a light
unto my path.
I have sworn,
and
I will perform it,
that I
will keep
thy righteous judgments.
My soul
is continually
in my hand:
yet do
I not forget
thy law.
The wicked
have laid a snare
for me:
yet I
erred not
from thy precepts.
I have inclined
mine heart
to perform thy statutes alway,
even unto the end.
Thy testimonies
are wonderful:
therefore doth
my soul
keep them.
LORD,
I have hoped
for thy salvation,
and done
thy commandments.
My soul
hath kept
thy testimonies;
and
I love them exceedingly.
I have kept
thy precepts
and thy testimonies:
for all my ways
are before thee.
Teach me to do
thy will;
for thou art
my God:
thy spirit
is good;
lead me
into the land
of uprightness.
But
whoso
hearkeneth
unto me shall dwell safely,
and shall be
quiet
from fear
of evil.
He that
keepeth
the commandment
keepeth his own soul;
but he
that
despiseth
his ways
shall die.
Whoso
keepeth
the law
is a wise son:
but
he that is a companion
of riotous men
shameth his father.
Let us
hear the conclusion
of the whole matter:
Fear God,
and keep
his commandments:
for this
is the whole duty
of man.
If ye
be willing
and obedient,
ye shall eat the good
of the land:
And said,
Remember now,
O LORD,
I beseech thee,
how I
have walked
before thee
in truth
and with a perfect heart,
and have done
that which
is good
in thy sight.
And Hezekiah
wept sore.
Therefore now amend your ways
and your doings,
and obey
the voice
of the LORD your God;
and the LORD
will repent him
of the evil
that
he hath pronounced
against you.
But Jeremiah said,
They shall not deliver thee.
Obey,
I beseech thee,
the voice
of the LORD,
which I
speak unto thee:
so it
shall be well
unto thee,
and thy soul
shall live.
Behold the day,
behold,
it is come:
the morning
is gone forth;
the rod
hath blossomed,
pride hath budded.
Make a chain:
for the land
is full of bloody crimes,
and the city
is full of violence.
Yet say ye,
Why?
doth not
the son
bear the iniquity
of the father?
When the son
hath done
that which
is lawful
and right,
and hath kept all
my statutes,
and hath done them,
he shall surely live.
Again,
when
I say
unto the wicked,
Thou shalt surely die;
if he
turn
from his sin,
and do
that which
is lawful
and right;
If the wicked
restore the pledge,
give again that
he had robbed,
walk
in the statutes
of life,
without committing iniquity;
he shall surely live,
he shall not die.
None of his sins that
he hath committed
shall be mentioned unto him:
he hath done
that which
is lawful
and right;
he shall surely live.
Now
when Daniel
knew
that the writing
was signed,
he went into his house;
and his windows
being
open
in his chamber
toward Jerusalem,
he kneeled
upon his knees three
times a day,
and prayed,
and gave
thanks
before his God,
as he
did aforetime.
And the kingdom
and dominion,
and the greatness
of the kingdom
under the whole heaven,
shall be given
to the people
of the saints
of the most High,
whose kingdom
is an everlasting kingdom,
and all dominions
shall serve and obey him.
So Jonah arose,
and went unto Nineveh,
according to
the word
of the LORD.
Now Nineveh
was an exceeding great city
of three days' journey.
So the people
of Nineveh believed God,
and proclaimed
a fast,
and put on
sackcloth,
from the greatest
of them
even to the least
of them.
For word
came
unto the king
of Nineveh,
and he
arose
from his throne,
and he
laid
his robe
from him,
and covered him
with sackcloth,
and sat
in ashes.
And he
caused
it to be proclaimed
and published
through Nineveh
by the decree
of the king
and his nobles,
saying,
Let neither man
nor beast,
herd nor flock,
taste any thing:
let them
not feed,
nor drink water:
But let man
and beast
be covered
with sackcloth,
and cry mightily
unto God:
yea,
let them
turn every one
from his evil way,
and
from the violence
that is
in their hands.
Who can tell
if God
will turn
and repent,
and turn away
from his fierce anger,
that we
perish not?
And God
saw their works,
that they
turned
from their evil way;
and God
repented
of the evil,
that he
had said
that he
would do unto them;
and
he did it not.
Then Zerubbabel
the son
of Shealtiel,
and Joshua
the son
of Josedech,
the high priest,
with all
the remnant
of the people,
obeyed the voice
of the LORD their God,
and the words
of Haggai the prophet,
as the LORD
their God
had sent him,
and the people
did fear
before the LORD.
Remember
ye the law
of Moses my servant,
which I
commanded
unto him in Horeb
for all Israel,
with the statutes
and judgments.
Then Joseph
being raised
from sleep
did as the angel
of the Lord
had bidden him,
and took unto him his wife:
When he arose,
he took
the young child
and his mother
by night,
and departed
into Egypt:
And Jesus
answering
said unto him,
Suffer it to be
so now:
for thus
it becometh us
to fulfil
all righteousness.
Then
he suffered him.
Whosoever therefore shall break one
of these
least commandments,
and shall teach men so,
he shall be called the least
in the kingdom
of heaven:
but whosoever
shall do
and teach them,
the same
shall be called great
in the kingdom
of heaven.
No man
can serve
two masters:
for either
he will hate
the one,
and love
the other;
or else
he will hold
to the one,
and despise
the other.
Ye cannot serve God
and mammon.
And
as Jesus
passed forth
from thence,
he saw a man,
named Matthew,
sitting at the receipt of custom:
and
he saith unto him,
Follow me.
And he arose,
and followed him.
For whosoever
shall do
the will
of my Father
which is in heaven,
the same
is my brother,
and sister,
and mother.
But he
that received
seed into the good ground
is
he that heareth
the word,
and understandeth it;
which also beareth fruit,
and
bringeth forth,
some an hundredfold,
some sixty,
some thirty.
And
he said unto him,
Why callest
thou me good?
there is none good
but one,
that is,
God:
but
if thou
wilt enter
into life,
keep the commandments.
The young man
saith unto him,
All these things
have
I kept
from my youth up:
what lack
I yet?
And every one that
hath forsaken houses,
or brethren,
or sisters,
or father,
or mother,
or wife,
or children,
or lands,
for my name's sake,
shall receive
an hundredfold,
and shall inherit
everlasting life.
And so
he that
had received
five talents
came
and brought
other five talents,
saying,
Lord,
thou deliveredst
unto me five talents:
behold,
I have gained beside them
five talents more.
His lord said
unto him,
Well done,
thou good
and faithful servant:
thou hast been faithful
over a few things,
I will make thee ruler
over many things:
enter
thou
into the joy
of thy lord.
He also
that
had received
two talents
came
and said,
Lord,
thou deliveredst
unto me two talents:
behold,
I have gained
two other talents
beside them.
His lord said
unto him,
Well done,
good
and faithful servant;
thou hast been faithful
over a few things,
I will make thee ruler
over many things:
enter
thou
into the joy
of thy lord.
And
he went a little farther,
and fell
on his face,
and prayed,
saying,
O my Father,
if it
be possible,
let this cup pass
from me:
nevertheless
not as I will,
but as thou wilt.
He went away again
the second time,
and prayed,
saying,
O my Father,
if this cup
may not pass
away from me,
except I
drink it,
thy will be done.
Now as he walked
by the sea
of Galilee,
he saw Simon
and Andrew
his brother
casting
a net
into the sea:
for they
were fishers.
And Jesus
said unto them,
Come ye after me,
and
I will make you
to become fishers
of men.
And straightway
they forsook their nets,
and followed him.
And
when he
had gone
a little farther
thence,
he saw James
the son
of Zebedee,
and John
his brother,
who also were
in the ship
mending
their nets.
And straightway
he called them:
and they
left
their father Zebedee
in the ship
with the hired servants,
and went
after him.
And as he
passed by,
he saw Levi
the son
of Alphaeus
sitting
at the receipt
of custom,
and
said unto him,
Follow me.
And he
arose
and followed him.
For whosoever
shall do
the will of God,
the same
is my brother,
and my sister,
and mother.
Thou knowest
the commandments,
Do not commit adultery,
Do not kill,
Do not steal,
Do not bear
false witness,
Defraud not,
Honour thy
father
and mother.
And he
answered
and
said unto him,
Master,
all these
have
I observed
from my youth.
And
they were both righteous
before God,
walking in all
the commandments
and ordinances
of the Lord blameless.
And Mary said,
Behold the handmaid
of the Lord;
be it
unto me according to
thy word.
And the angel
departed
from her.
And,
behold,
there was a man
in Jerusalem,
whose name
was Simeon;
and the same man
was just
and devout,
waiting
for the consolation
of Israel:
and the Holy Ghost
was upon him.
And
why call ye me,
Lord, Lord,
and do not
the things
which I say?
Whosoever cometh to me,
and heareth
my sayings,
and doeth them,
I will shew you
to whom
he is like:
He is like
a man which built
an house,
and digged deep,
and laid
the foundation
on a rock:
and
when the flood arose,
the stream
beat vehemently
upon that house,
and could not shake it:
for it
was founded
upon a rock.
And he
answered
and
said unto them,
My mother
and my brethren
are these which
hear the word
of God,
and do it.
But he said,
Yea rather,
blessed
are they that
hear the word
of God,
and keep it.
Blessed are those servants,
whom the lord
when
he cometh
shall find watching:
verily
I say unto you,
that he
shall gird himself,
and make them to
sit down to meat,
and will come
forth and serve them.
And
if he
shall come in
the second watch,
or come in
the third watch,
and find them so,
blessed are those servants.
And he said,
All these
have
I kept
from my youth up.
Saying,
Father,
if thou
be willing,
remove this cup
from me:
nevertheless not my will,
but thine,
be done.
Jesus saw Nathanael
coming
to him,
and saith of him,
Behold an Israelite indeed,
in whom is no guile!
But
he said unto them,
I have meat
to eat
that ye
know not of.
Jesus
saith unto them,
My meat
is to do
the will
of him that
sent me,
and to finish
his work.
I can of mine own self
do nothing:
as I hear,
I judge:
and my judgment
is just;
because
I
seek not mine own will,
but the will
of the Father
which hath sent me.
Then said
Jesus unto them, When
ye have lifted
up the Son
of man,
then shall
ye know that
I am he,
and that
I do nothing
of myself;
but as my Father
hath taught me,
I speak
these things.
Verily,
verily,
I say unto you,
If a man
keep my saying,
he shall never see death.
I must work
the works
of him that
sent me,
while it
is day:
the night cometh,
when no man
can work.
My sheep
hear my voice,
and I
know them,
and
they follow me:
If any man
serve me,
let him
follow me;
and where
I am,
there shall also my servant be:
if any man
serve me,
him will
my Father honour.
For I
have not spoken
of myself;
but the Father which
sent me,
he gave me
a commandment,
what
I should say,
and
what
I should speak.
And
I know
that his commandment
is life everlasting:
whatsoever
I speak therefore,
even as
the Father
said unto me,
so I speak.
If ye
know these things,
happy are ye
if ye
do them.
If ye
love me,
keep my commandments.
He that
hath my commandments,
and keepeth them,
he it
is
that loveth me:
and he
that loveth me
shall be loved
of my Father,
and
I will love him,
and will manifest myself
to him.
Jesus
answered
and
said unto him,
If a man
love me,
he will keep
my words:
and my Father
will love him,
and
we will come unto him,
and make
our abode
with him.
But
that the world
may know that
I love
the Father;
and as the Father
gave me
commandment,
even so
I do.
Arise,
let us go hence.
If ye
keep my commandments,
ye shall abide in
my love;
even as
I have kept
my Father's commandments,
and abide in
his love.
Ye are my friends,
if ye
do whatsoever
I command you.
Ye have not chosen me,
but
I have chosen you,
and ordained you,
that ye
should go
and bring forth fruit,
and
that your fruit
should remain:
that whatsoever
ye shall ask of the Father
in my name,
he may give it you.
I have glorified thee
on the earth:
I have finished
the work
which thou
gavest me to do.
I have manifested thy
name
unto the men
which thou
gavest me
out of the world:
thine
they were,
and
thou gavest them me;
and they
have kept thy word.
But Peter
and John
answered
and
said unto them,
Whether it
be right
in the sight
of God
to hearken
unto you
more than unto God,
judge ye.
Then Peter
and the other apostles
answered
and said,
We ought to obey God
rather than men.
And
said unto him,
Get thee
out of thy country,
and from thy kindred,
and come
into the land
which I
shall shew thee.
Then came
he out of the land
of the Chaldaeans,
and dwelt
in Charran:
and from thence,
when his father
was dead,
he removed him
into this land,
wherein ye
now dwell.
And he
gave him
none inheritance in it,
no,
not so much as to set
his foot on:
yet
he promised that
he would give it
to him
for a possession,
and to his seed
after him,
when as yet
he had
no child.
And God
spake on this wise,
That his seed
should sojourn
in a strange land;
and
that they
should bring them
into bondage,
and entreat them
evil four hundred years.
And the nation
to whom
they
shall be
in bondage
will
I judge,
said God:
and after that
shall
they come forth,
and serve me
in this place.
And he
gave him
the covenant
of circumcision:
and so Abraham
begat Isaac,
and circumcised him
the eighth day;
and Isaac
begat Jacob;
and Jacob
begat the twelve patriarchs.
A devout man,
and one
that feared God
with all his house,
which gave much alms
to the people,
and prayed
to God alway.
And
when
he had removed him,
he raised up
unto them David
to be their king;
to whom
also he
gave their testimony,
and said,
I have found David
the son
of Jesse,
a man
after mine own heart,
which shall fulfil all my will.
And Paul,
earnestly beholding
the council,
said,
Men and brethren,
I have lived
in all good conscience
before God
until this day.
And herein do
I exercise myself,
to have always
a conscience void
to offence
toward God,
and toward men.
My manner
of life
from my youth,
which was at
the first among mine
own nation
at Jerusalem,
know all
the Jews;
Which knew me
from the beginning,
if they
would testify,
that after the most straitest sect
of our religion
I lived
a Pharisee.
But God
be thanked,
that ye
were the servants
of sin,
but
ye have obeyed
from the heart that form
of doctrine which
was delivered you.
For our rejoicing
is this,
the testimony
of our conscience,
that in simplicity
and godly sincerity,
not with fleshly wisdom,
but by the grace
of God,
we have had
our conversation
in the world,
and more
abundantly to you-ward.
Giving no offence
in any thing,
that the ministry
be not blamed:
But in all things
approving ourselves
as the ministers
of God,
in much patience,
in afflictions,
in necessities,
in distresses,
For as many
as are of the works
of the law
are under the curse:
for it
is written,
Cursed
is
every one
that continueth not
in all
things which
are written
in the book
of the law
to do them.
And the law
is not of faith:
but,
The man
that doeth them
shall live in them.
For I
testify again
to every man
that is circumcised,
that he
is a debtor
to do the whole law.
For we
are his workmanship,
created
in Christ Jesus
unto good works,
which God
hath
before
ordained
that we
should walk in them.
I therefore,
the prisoner
of the Lord,
beseech you
that
ye walk worthy
of the vocation
wherewith
ye are called,
This
I say therefore,
and testify
in the Lord,
that ye
henceforth walk not
as other Gentiles walk,
in the vanity
of their mind,
Not with eyeservice,
as menpleasers;
but as the servants
of Christ,
doing the will
of God
from the heart;
With good will doing service,
as to the Lord,
and not to men:
Knowing that
whatsoever
good thing any man doeth,
the same
shall
he receive
of the Lord,
whether he
be bond or free.
Wherefore,
my beloved,
as ye
have always obeyed,
not as
in my presence only,
but
now much more
in my absence,
work out
your own salvation
with fear and trembling.
But
what things
were gain to me,
those I
counted loss
for Christ.
Yea doubtless,
and
I count all things
but loss
for the excellency
of the knowledge
of Christ Jesus my Lord:
for whom
I have suffered
the loss
of all things,
and do count them
but dung,
that I
may win Christ,
And
be found in him,
not having mine own righteousness,
which is of the law,
but
that which
is through the faith
of Christ,
the righteousness which
is of God
by faith:
That I
may know him,
and the power
of his resurrection,
and the fellowship
of his sufferings,
being made conformable
unto his death;
If by any means
I might attain
unto the resurrection
of the dead.
Not as
though I
had already attained,
either were already perfect:
but
I follow after,
if that
I may apprehend that
for which
also I
am apprehended
of Christ Jesus.
Brethren,
I count not myself
to have apprehended:
but this one thing
I do,
forgetting
those things
which are behind,
and reaching forth
unto those things
which are before,
I press toward
the mark
for the prize
of the high calling
of God
in Christ Jesus.
For they
themselves
shew
of us what manner
of entering in we
had unto you,
and
how ye
turned
to God from idols
to serve
the living
and true God;
Ye are witnesses,
and God also,
how holily
and justly
and unblameably
we behaved ourselves
among you
that believe:
That thou
keep this commandment
without spot,
unrebukable,
until the appearing
of our Lord Jesus Christ:
That they
do good,
that they
be
rich in good works,
ready
to distribute,
willing
to communicate;
I thank God,
whom
I serve
from my forefathers
with pure conscience,
that without ceasing
I have remembrance
of thee
in my prayers
night and day;
Who was faithful
to him
that appointed him,
as also Moses
was faithful
in all his house.
For this man
was counted worthy
of more glory
than Moses,
inasmuch as
he who
hath builded the house
hath more honour
than the house.
Then said I,
Lo,
I come
(in the volume
of the book
it is written of me,)
to do
thy will,
O God.
By faith Noah,
being warned
of God of things
not seen as yet,
moved with fear,
prepared an ark
to the saving
of his house;
by the which
he condemned
the world,
and became heir
of the righteousness
which is by faith.
By faith Abraham,
when
he was called to go out
into a place
which he
should after
receive
for an inheritance,
obeyed;
and he went out,
not knowing whither
he went.
By faith
he sojourned
in the land
of promise,
as in a strange country,
dwelling
in tabernacles
with Isaac
and Jacob,
the heirs
with him
of the same promise:
For he
looked for
a city which
hath foundations,
whose builder
and maker
is God.
Through faith also
Sara herself
received
strength to conceive seed,
and was delivered
of a child
when
she was past age,
because
she judged him faithful
who had promised.
Therefore sprang there
even of one,
and him
as good as dead,
so many
as the stars
of the sky
in multitude,
and
as the sand which
is by the sea shore innumerable.
These all died
in faith,
not having received
the promises,
but
having seen them afar off,
and
were persuaded of them,
and embraced them,
and confessed that
they were strangers
and pilgrims
on the earth.
For they
that
say such things
declare plainly that
they seek
a country.
And truly,
if they
had been mindful
of that country
from whence
they came out,
they might have had
opportunity
to have returned.
But now
they desire
a better country,
that is,
an heavenly:
wherefore God
is not ashamed
to be called their God:
for he
hath prepared
for them a city.
By faith Abraham,
when
he was tried,
offered up Isaac:
and
he that
had received
the promises
offered
up his only begotten son,
But
to do good and
to communicate
forget not:
for with such sacrifices God
is well pleased.
But be
ye doers
of the word,
and
not hearers only,
deceiving
your own selves.
For if any
be a hearer
of the word,
and not
a doer,
he is like
unto a man
beholding
his natural face
in a glass:
For he
beholdeth himself,
and goeth his way,
and straightway forgetteth
what manner
of man he was.
But
whoso looketh
into the perfect law
of liberty,
and continueth
therein,
he being not
a forgetful hearer,
but a doer
of the work,
this man
shall be blessed
in his deed.
For whosoever
shall keep
the whole law,
and yet offend
in one point,
he is guilty
of all.
For he
that said,
Do not commit adultery,
said also,
Do not kill.
Now
if thou
commit no adultery,
yet if thou kill,
thou art become
a transgressor
of the law.
So speak ye,
and so do,
as they
that shall be judged
by the law
of liberty.
Was not
Abraham our father
justified
by works,
when
he had offered
Isaac his son
upon the altar?
Elect according to
the foreknowledge
of God the Father,
through sanctification
of the Spirit,
unto obedience
and sprinkling
of the blood
of Jesus Christ:
Grace unto you,
and peace,
be multiplied.
As obedient children,
not fashioning yourselves according to
the former
lusts
in your ignorance:
And hereby
we do know that
we know him,
if we
keep his commandments.
He that saith,
I know him,
and keepeth not
his commandments,
is a liar,
and the truth
is not in him.
But
whoso keepeth his word,
in him verily is
the love
of God perfected:
hereby know
we that
we are in him.
He that
saith
he abideth
in him ought
himself
also so to walk,
even as he walked.
And the world passeth away,
and the lust
thereof:
but
he that
doeth
the will
of God abideth
for ever.
And whatsoever
we ask,
we receive of him,
because
we keep
his commandments,
and do those things
that are pleasing
in his sight.
And this
is his commandment,
That we
should believe on the name
of his Son Jesus Christ,
and love one
another,
as he
gave us
commandment.
And he
that
keepeth
his commandments
dwelleth in him,
and he in him.
And hereby
we know that
he abideth in us,
by the Spirit
which he
hath given us.
By this
we know that
we love
the children
of God,
when we
love God,
and keep
his commandments.
For this
is the love
of God,
that we
keep his commandments:
and his commandments
are not grievous.
And this
is love,
that we
walk
after his commandments.
This is the commandment,
That,
as ye
have heard
from the beginning,
ye should walk in it.
Whosoever transgresseth,
and abideth
not in the doctrine
of Christ,
hath not God.
He that abideth
in the doctrine
of Christ,
he hath
both the Father
and the Son.
I know thy works,
and charity,
and service,
and faith,
and thy patience,
and thy works;
and the last
to be more than the first.
Thou hast
a few names
even in Sardis which
have not defiled
their garments;
and
they shall walk
with me
in white:
for they
are worthy.
And the dragon
was wroth
with the woman,
and went to make
war with the remnant
of her seed,
which keep
the commandments
of God,
and have
the testimony
of Jesus Christ.
These are
they which
were not defiled
with women;
for they
are virgins.
These are
they
which follow
the Lamb
whithersoever
he goeth.
These were redeemed from
among men,
being the firstfruits
unto God
and to the Lamb.
And
in their mouth
was found no guile:
for they
are without fault
before the throne
of God.
Behold,
I come quickly:
blessed
is
he that
keepeth
the sayings
of the prophecy
of this book.
Blessed
are
they that
do his commandments,
that they
may have
right
to the tree
of life,
and may enter in
through the gates
into the city.
