But the LORD
was with Joseph,
and shewed him mercy,
and gave him
favour
in the sight
of the keeper
of the prison.
And
the keeper
of the prison
committed
to Joseph's hand
all the prisoners
that were in the prison;
and whatsoever
they did there,
he was the doer of it.
The keeper
of the prison
looked not
to any thing
that was under his hand;
because
the LORD
was with him,
and
that which
he did,
the LORD
made it
to prosper.
And Joshua
saved Rahab
the harlot alive,
and her father's household,
and all that
she had;
and
she dwelleth in Israel
even unto this day;
because
she hid the messengers,
which Joshua
sent
to spy
out Jericho.
And the house
of Joseph sent
to descry Bethel.
(Now the name
of the city
before was Luz.)
And the spies
saw
a man
come forth
out of the city,
and
they
said unto him,
Shew us,
we pray thee,
the entrance
into the city,
and
we will shew
thee mercy.
And
when
he shewed them
the entrance
into the city,
they smote the city
with the edge
of the sword;
but they let go
the man
and all
his family.
And the man
went into the land
of the Hittites,
and built a city,
and called
the name
thereof Luz:
which is the name
thereof unto this day.
Behold,
this day
thine eyes
have seen how
that the LORD
had delivered
thee to day into mine
hand in the cave:
and some
bade me
kill thee:
but mine
eye
spared thee;
and I said,
I will not put forth
mine hand
against my lord;
for he
is the LORD's anointed.
Moreover,
my father,
see,
yea,
see the skirt
of thy robe
in my hand:
for in that
I cut off
the skirt
of thy robe,
and killed thee not,
know
thou
and see that
there is neither evil
nor transgression
in mine hand,
and
I have not sinned
against thee;
yet
thou huntest
my soul to take it.
The LORD judge
between me and thee,
and the LORD
avenge me
of thee:
but mine hand
shall not be
upon thee.
As saith
the proverb
of the ancients,
Wickedness
proceedeth
from the wicked:
but mine hand
shall not be
upon thee.
And he
said
to David,
Thou art more righteous
than I:
for thou
hast rewarded me good,
whereas
I have rewarded
thee evil.
With the merciful
thou wilt shew thyself merciful,
and with the upright man
thou wilt shew thyself upright.
With the merciful
thou wilt shew thyself merciful;
with an upright man
thou wilt shew thyself upright;
I have been young,
and now am old;
yet have
I not seen
the righteous forsaken,
nor his seed begging bread.
He is ever merciful,
and lendeth;
and his seed
is blessed.
Mercy
and truth
are met together;
righteousness
and peace
have kissed
each other.
Let not mercy
and truth
forsake thee:
bind them
about thy neck;
write them
upon the table
of thine heart:
So shalt
thou find
favour
and good understanding
in the sight
of God and man.
The merciful man
doeth good
to his own soul:
but
he that is cruel
troubleth his own flesh.
A righteous man
regardeth
the life
of his beast:
but the tender
mercies
of the wicked
are cruel.
He that
despiseth
his neighbour sinneth:
but he that
hath mercy
on the poor,
happy is he.
Do they
not err
that devise evil?
but mercy
and truth
shall be
to them
that devise good.
He that
oppresseth
the poor
reproacheth his Maker:
but he
that honoureth him
hath mercy
on the poor.
Mercy
and truth
preserve
the king:
and his throne
is upholden
by mercy.
He that
followeth after righteousness
and mercy
findeth life,
righteousness,
and honour.
Hear the word
of the LORD,
ye children
of Israel:
for the LORD
hath a controversy
with the inhabitants
of the land,
because
there is no truth,
nor mercy,
nor knowledge
of God
in the land.
Therefore turn
thou to thy God:
keep mercy
and judgment
and wait
on thy God continually.
He hath shewed thee,
O man,
what is good;
and what
doth
the LORD
require of thee,
but to do justly,
and to love mercy,
and
to walk humbly
with thy God?
Blessed are the merciful:
for they
shall obtain mercy.
Woe unto you,
scribes
and Pharisees,
hypocrites!
for ye
pay
tithe of mint
and anise
and cummin,
and have omitted
the weightier matters
of the law,
judgment,
mercy,
and faith:
these ought
ye to have done,
and not
to leave
the other undone.
Be ye therefore merciful,
as your Father
also is merciful.
Or he
that exhorteth,
on exhortation:
he that giveth,
let him
do it
with simplicity;
he that ruleth,
with diligence;
he that
sheweth mercy,
with cheerfulness.
Put on therefore,
as the elect
of God,
holy
and beloved,
bowels
of mercies,
kindness,
humbleness
of mind,
meekness,
longsuffering;
Forbearing one
another,
and forgiving one
another,
if any man
have a quarrel
against any:
even as Christ
forgave you,
so also do ye.
For he
shall have judgment
without mercy,
that hath shewed
no mercy;
and mercy
rejoiceth against judgment.
