Therefore shall
a man
leave his father
and his mother,
and shall cleave
unto his wife:
and
they shall be
one flesh.
But now
he is dead,
wherefore should
I fast?
can
I bring him
back again?
I shall go
to him,
but
he shall not return to me.
And it
came
to pass,
as they still went on,
and talked,
that,
behold,
there appeared
a chariot
of fire,
and horses
of fire,
and parted them
both asunder;
and Elijah
went up by a whirlwind
into heaven.
Then the Levites, Jeshua,
and Kadmiel, Bani,
Hashabniah, Sherebiah,
Hodijah, Shebaniah,
and Pethahiah,
said,
Stand up
and bless
the LORD your God
for ever
and ever:
and blessed
be thy glorious name,
which is
exalted above
all blessing
and praise.
Shall
mortal man
be more just
than God?
shall a man
be more pure
than his maker?
Behold,
he put
no trust
in his servants;
and his angels
he charged
with folly:
How much less
in them that
dwell in houses
of clay,
whose foundation
is in the dust,
which are crushed
before the moth?
They are destroyed
from morning
to evening:
they perish for
ever without any
regarding it.
Doth not
their excellency which
is in them go away?
they die,
even without wisdom.
O that thou
wouldest hide me
in the grave,
that thou
wouldest keep me
secret,
until thy wrath
be past,
that thou
wouldest appoint me
a set time,
and remember me!
For thou
wilt not leave
my soul in hell;
neither wilt
thou suffer
thine Holy One
to see corruption.
Thou wilt shew me
the path of life:
in thy presence
is fulness
of joy;
at thy
right hand
there are pleasures
for evermore.
He asked life
of thee,
and
thou gavest it him,
even length
of days
for ever and ever.
The meek
shall eat
and be satisfied:
they shall praise
the LORD that
seek him:
your heart
shall live
for ever.
Surely goodness
and mercy
shall follow me all
the days
of my life:
and
I will dwell in the house
of the LORD
for ever.
Into thine hand
I commit
my spirit:
thou hast redeemed me,
O LORD God
of truth.
For with thee
is the fountain
of life:
in thy
light
shall
we see light.
The LORD
knoweth
the days
of the upright:
and their inheritance
shall be
for ever.
Depart from evil,
and do good;
and dwell
for evermore.
None of them
can by any means
redeem his brother,
nor give
to God a ransom
for him:
(For
the redemption
of their soul
is precious,
and it
ceaseth for ever:)
Like sheep
they are laid
in the grave;
death
shall feed on them;
and the upright
shall have dominion
over them
in the morning;
and their beauty
shall consume
in the grave
from their dwelling.
But God
will redeem
my soul
from the power
of the grave:
for he
shall receive me.
Selah.
My flesh
and my heart faileth:
but God
is the strength
of my heart,
and my portion
for ever.
I will praise thee,
O Lord my God,
with all my heart:
and I
will glorify
thy name
for evermore.
I said,
O my God,
take me not
away in the midst
of my days:
thy years
are throughout all generations.
Of old
hast
thou laid
the foundation
of the earth:
and the heavens
are the work
of thy hands.
They shall perish,
but
thou shalt endure:
yea,
all of them
shall wax old like
a garment;
as a vesture
shalt
thou change them,
and
they shall be changed:
But
thou art
the same,
and thy years
shall have no end.
The children
of thy servants
shall continue,
and their seed
shall be established
before thee.
The LORD
shall preserve
thy going out and thy
coming in
from this time forth,
and even for evermore.
As the dew
of Hermon,
and as the dew
that descended
upon the mountains
of Zion:
for there
the LORD
commanded
the blessing,
even life
for evermore.
I will extol thee,
my God,
O king;
and I
will bless
thy name
for ever and ever.
Every day
will
I bless thee;
and I
will praise
thy name
for ever and ever.
The wicked
is driven away
in his wickedness:
but the righteous
hath
hope
in his death.
Who knoweth
the spirit of man
that goeth upward,
and the spirit
of the beast
that goeth downward
to the earth?
Then shall
the dust return
to the earth
as it was:
and the spirit
shall return
unto God
who gave it.
Hell from
beneath is moved
for thee to meet
thee at thy coming:
it stirreth up the dead
for thee,
even all
the chief
ones of the earth;
it hath raised up
from their thrones all
the kings
of the nations.
He will swallow up death
in victory;
and the Lord GOD
will wipe away
tears from
off all faces;
and
the rebuke
of his people
shall
he take away from
off all
the earth:
for the LORD
hath spoken it.
Thy dead men
shall live,
together with my dead body
shall they arise.
Awake and sing,
ye that
dwell
in dust:
for thy dew
is as the dew
of herbs,
and the earth
shall cast
out the dead.
For the grave
cannot praise thee,
death can not celebrate thee:
they
that go down
into the pit
cannot hope
for thy truth.
The living,
the living,
he shall praise thee,
as I
do this day:
the father
to the children
shall make
known
thy truth.
Pharaoh shall see them,
and shall be comforted
over all his multitude,
even Pharaoh
and all
his army
slain
by the sword,
saith the Lord GOD.
And many
of them that sleep
in the dust
of the earth
shall awake,
some
to everlasting life,
and some
to shame
and everlasting contempt.
And
they that
be wise
shall shine
as the brightness
of the firmament;
and
they that turn many
to righteousness
as the stars
for ever and ever.
And fear not them which
kill the body,
but are not able
to kill the soul:
but
rather fear him which
is able
to destroy both soul
and body
in hell.
For what
is a man profited,
if he
shall gain
the whole world,
and lose
his own soul?
or what
shall a man
give
in exchange
for his soul?
And,
behold,
one came
and
said unto him,
Good Master,
what good thing
shall
I do,
that I
may have
eternal life?
And
he said unto him,
Why callest
thou me good?
there is none good
but one,
that is,
God:
but
if thou
wilt enter
into life,
keep the commandments.
And these
shall go away
into everlasting punishment:
but the righteous
into life eternal.
But
he shall receive
an hundredfold
now in this time,
houses,
and brethren,
and sisters,
and mothers,
and children,
and lands,
with persecutions;
and
in the world
to come eternal life.
And as touching
the dead,
that they rise:
have
ye not read
in the book
of Moses,
how in the bush
God
spake unto him,
saying,
I am the God
of Abraham,
and the God
of Isaac,
and the God
of Jacob?
For what
is a man advantaged,
if he
gain the whole world,
and lose himself,
or be cast away?
And,
behold,
a certain lawyer stood up,
and tempted him,
saying,
Master,
what shall
I do
to inherit eternal life?
He said unto him,
What is written
in the law?
how readest thou?
And
he answering said,
Thou
shalt love
the Lord thy God
with all thy heart,
and
with all thy soul,
and
with all thy strength,
and
with all
thy mind;
and thy neighbour
as thyself.
And
he said unto him,
Thou hast answered right:
this do,
and
thou shalt live.
Neither can
they die any more:
for they
are equal
unto the angels;
and are the children
of God,
being the children
of the resurrection.
Now
that the dead
are raised,
even
Moses
shewed
at the bush,
when
he calleth
the Lord
the God
of Abraham,
and the God
of Isaac,
and the God
of Jacob.
For he is not
a God
of the dead,
but of the living:
for all live unto him.
And
as Moses
lifted
up the serpent
in the wilderness,
even so
must
the Son
of man
be lifted up:
That whosoever believeth
in him should not perish,
but have
eternal life.
For God so
loved the world,
that he
gave his only begotten Son,
that whosoever believeth
in him should not perish,
but have
everlasting life.
He that believeth
on the Son
hath everlasting life:
and
he that believeth
not the Son
shall not see life;
but the wrath
of God abideth
on him.
Search the scriptures;
for in them ye
think
ye have
eternal life:
and they
are
they
which testify of me.
And
ye will not come to me,
that ye
might have life.
And this
is the Father's
will
which hath sent me,
that of all which
he hath given me
I should lose
nothing,
but should raise it up
again at the last day.
And this
is the will
of him that
sent me,
that every one
which seeth the Son,
and believeth
on him,
may have
everlasting life:
and I
will raise
him up
at the last day.
No man
can come to me,
except the Father
which hath sent me
draw him:
and I
will raise
him up
at the last day.
Verily,
verily,
I say unto you,
He that believeth
on me hath
everlasting life.
This is the bread
which cometh down
from heaven,
that a man
may eat thereof,
and not die.
I am
the living bread which
came down
from heaven:
if any man
eat of this bread,
he shall live
for ever:
and the bread that
I will give
is my flesh,
which I
will give
for the life
of the world.
Then Jesus
said unto them,
Verily,
verily,
I say unto you,
Except
ye eat
the flesh
of the Son
of man,
and drink
his blood,
ye have no life
in you.
Whoso
eateth
my flesh,
and drinketh my blood,
hath eternal life;
and I
will raise
him up
at the last day.
This is that bread
which came down
from heaven:
not as your fathers
did eat manna,
and are dead:
he that
eateth of this bread
shall live
for ever.
And
I give
unto them eternal life;
and
they shall never perish,
neither shall
any man
pluck them
out of my hand.
Jesus
said
unto her,
I am the resurrection,
and the life:
he that believeth in me,
though he
were dead,
yet shall
he live:
And whosoever
liveth
and believeth
in me shall never die.
Believest thou this?
Yet a little while,
and the world
seeth me no more;
but ye
see me:
because
I live,
ye shall live also.
As thou
hast given him
power
over all flesh,
that he
should give eternal life to
as many
as thou
hast given him.
And now,
brethren,
I commend you
to God,
and to the word
of his grace,
which is able
to build you up,
and
to give
you an inheritance
among all
them which
are sanctified.
For the Sadducees
say that
there is
no resurrection,
neither angel,
nor spirit:
but the Pharisees
confess both.
And there arose
a great cry:
and the scribes
that
were of the Pharisees' part arose,
and strove,
saying,
We find no evil
in this man:
but
if a spirit
or an angel
hath spoken
to him,
let us
not fight
against God.
Unto which promise
our twelve tribes,
instantly serving God
day and night,
hope to come.
For which hope's sake,
king Agrippa,
I am accused
of the Jews.
Why should
it be thought
a thing incredible
with you,
that God
should raise
the dead?
To open their eyes,
and
to turn them
from darkness
to light,
and
from the power
of Satan
unto God,
that they
may receive forgiveness
of sins,
and inheritance
among them which
are sanctified
by faith
that is in me.
To them
who by patient continuance
in well doing
seek for glory
and honour
and immortality,
eternal life:
But now being made
free
from sin,
and become servants
to God,
ye have
your fruit
unto holiness,
and the end
everlasting life.
For the wages
of sin
is death;
but
the gift
of God
is eternal life
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Now
if Christ
be preached
that he
rose
from the dead,
how say some
among you
that there is no resurrection
of the dead?
But
if there be no resurrection
of the dead,
then is
Christ not risen:
And
if Christ
be not risen,
then is our preaching vain,
and your faith
is also vain.
Yea,
and
we are found false witnesses
of God;
because
we have testified
of God
that he
raised
up Christ:
whom
he raised not up,
if so
be that
the dead rise not.
For if
the dead rise not,
then is not
Christ raised:
And
if Christ
be not raised,
your faith
is vain;
ye are yet
in your sins.
Then
they also which
are fallen asleep
in Christ
are perished.
If in this life only
we have
hope in Christ,
we are of all men most miserable.
But now is Christ
risen from the dead,
and become
the firstfruits
of them
that slept.
For since by man
came death,
by man
came also
the resurrection
of the dead.
For as in Adam
all die,
even so in Christ
shall all be made alive.
But every man
in his own order:
Christ the firstfruits;
afterward
they
that are Christ's
at his coming.
Then cometh the end,
when
he shall have delivered
up the kingdom
to God,
even the Father;
when he
shall have put down
all rule
and all authority
and power.
For he must reign,
till he
hath put all enemies
under his feet.
The last enemy
that shall be destroyed
is death.
For he
hath put all things
under his feet.
But when he
saith all
things
are put under him,
it is
manifest that
he is excepted,
which did put all things
under him.
And
when
all things
shall be subdued unto him,
then shall
the Son
also himself
be subject
unto him that put all things
under him,
that God
may be all in all.
Else
what shall
they do which
are baptized
for the dead,
if the dead
rise not
at all?
why are they
then baptized
for the dead?
And
why stand
we
in jeopardy every hour?
I protest
by your rejoicing which
I have
in Christ Jesus
our LORD,
I die daily.
If after the manner
of men
I have fought
with beasts
at Ephesus,
what advantageth it me,
if the dead rise not?
let us
eat and drink;
for to morrow
we die.
Be not deceived:
evil communications
corrupt good manners.
Awake
to righteousness,
and sin not;
for some
have not the knowledge
of God:
I speak this
to your shame.
But some man
will say,
How are
the dead raised up?
and with what body
do they come?
Thou fool,
that which
thou sowest
is not quickened,
except it die:
And
that which
thou sowest,
thou sowest not
that body
that shall be,
but bare grain,
it may chance
of wheat,
or of some other grain:
But God
giveth
it a body as it
hath pleased him,
and
to every seed
his own body.
All flesh
is not
the same flesh:
but there is
one kind
of flesh of men,
another flesh
of beasts,
another of fishes,
and another
of birds.
There are also
celestial bodies,
and bodies terrestrial:
but the glory
of the celestial
is one,
and the glory
of the terrestrial
is another.
There is
one glory
of the sun,
and another glory
of the moon,
and another glory
of the stars:
for one star
differeth
from another star
in glory.
So also is
the resurrection
of the dead.
It is sown
in corruption;
it is raised
in incorruption:
It is sown
in dishonour;
it is raised
in glory:
it is sown
in weakness;
it is raised
in power:
It is sown
a natural body;
it is raised
a spiritual body.
There is
a natural body,
and there is
a spiritual body.
And so
it is written,
The first man Adam
was made
a living soul;
the last Adam
was made
a quickening spirit.
Howbeit that
was not first which
is spiritual,
but that which
is natural;
and afterward
that which
is spiritual.
The first man
is of the earth,
earthy;
the second man
is the Lord
from heaven.
As is the earthy,
such are
they also
that are earthy:
and as is
the heavenly,
such are
they also
that are heavenly.
And as we
have borne the image
of the earthy,
we shall also bear the image
of the heavenly.
Now this
I say,
brethren,
that flesh
and blood
cannot inherit
the kingdom
of God;
neither doth
corruption
inherit
incorruption.
Behold,
I shew
you a mystery;
We shall not all sleep,
but
we shall all be changed,
In a moment,
in the twinkling
of an eye,
at the last trump:
for the trumpet
shall sound,
and the dead
shall be raised incorruptible,
and
we shall be changed.
For this corruptible
must put on
incorruption,
and this mortal
must put on
immortality.
So when this corruptible
shall have put on
incorruption,
and this mortal
shall have put on
immortality,
then shall be brought
to pass
the saying
that is written,
Death is swallowed up
in victory.
O death,
where is
thy sting?
O grave,
where is thy victory?
For he
that
soweth to his flesh
shall of the flesh
reap corruption;
but
he that
soweth to the Spirit
shall of the Spirit
reap life everlasting.
For the hope
which is laid up
for you
in heaven,
whereof
ye heard before
in the word
of the truth
of the gospel;
Which is come
unto you,
as it is in all
the world;
and bringeth forth fruit,
as it doth also
in you,
since the day
ye heard of it,
and knew
the grace
of God
in truth:
But
I would not have you
to be ignorant,
brethren,
concerning them which
are asleep,
that ye
sorrow not,
even as others
which have
no hope.
For if
we believe
that Jesus
died
and rose again,
even so
them
also which sleep
in Jesus
will
God
bring with him.
For this
we say unto you
by the word
of the Lord,
that we which
are alive
and remain
unto the coming
of the Lord
shall not prevent them which
are asleep.
For the Lord himself
shall descend
from heaven
with a shout,
with the voice
of the archangel,
and
with the trump
of God:
and the dead
in Christ
shall rise first:
Then we which
are alive
and remain
shall be caught up together
with them
in the clouds,
to meet the Lord
in the air:
and so
shall
we ever be
with the Lord.
Wherefore comfort one
another
with these words.
Who died for us,
that,
whether we
wake or sleep,
we should live together with him.
And to you
who are troubled
rest with us,
when the Lord Jesus
shall be revealed from heaven
with his mighty angels,
In flaming fire
taking vengeance
on them that
know not God,
and
that obey not
the gospel
of our Lord Jesus Christ:
Who shall be punished
with everlasting destruction
from the presence
of the Lord,
and
from the glory
of his power;
Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself,
and God,
even our Father,
which hath loved us,
and hath given us
everlasting consolation
and good hope
through grace,
For bodily exercise
profiteth little:
but godliness
is profitable
unto all things,
having
promise
of the life
that now is,
and of that which
is to come.
Fight the good fight
of faith,
lay hold on
eternal life,
whereunto
thou art
also called,
and hast professed
a good profession
before many witnesses.
Laying up
in store
for themselves
a good foundation
against the time
to come,
that they
may lay
hold on
eternal life.
Who hath saved us,
and called us
with an holy calling,
not according to our works,
but
according to
his own purpose
and grace,
which was given us
in Christ Jesus
before the world began,
But is now made
manifest
by the appearing
of our Saviour Jesus Christ,
who hath abolished death,
and hath brought life
and immortality
to light
through the gospel:
In hope
of eternal life,
which God,
that cannot lie,
promised
before the world began;
That being justified
by his grace,
we should be made heirs
according to
the hope
of eternal life.
And
for this cause
he is the mediator
of the new testament,
that by means
of death,
for the redemption
of the transgressions
that were under the first testament,
they which
are called
might receive
the promise
of eternal inheritance.
For ye
had compassion of me
in my bonds,
and took joyfully
the spoiling
of your goods,
knowing in yourselves
that ye
have in heaven
a better
and an enduring substance.
By faith Enoch
was translated
that he
should not see death;
and was not found,
because God
had translated him:
for before his translation
he had
this testimony,
that he
pleased God.
For he
looked for
a city which
hath foundations,
whose builder
and maker
is God.
These all died
in faith,
not having received
the promises,
but
having seen them afar off,
and
were persuaded of them,
and embraced them,
and confessed that
they were strangers
and pilgrims
on the earth.
For they
that
say such things
declare plainly that
they seek
a country.
And truly,
if they
had been mindful
of that country
from whence
they came out,
they might have had
opportunity
to have returned.
But now
they desire
a better country,
that is,
an heavenly:
wherefore God
is not ashamed
to be called their God:
for he
hath prepared
for them a city.
Blessed
be
the God
and Father
of our Lord Jesus Christ,
which according to
his abundant mercy
hath begotten us again
unto a
lively hope
by the resurrection
of Jesus Christ
from the dead,
To an inheritance incorruptible,
and undefiled,
and that
fadeth
not away,
reserved
in heaven
for you,
Who are kept
by the power
of God
through faith
unto salvation ready
to be revealed
in the last time.
And the world passeth away,
and the lust
thereof:
but
he that
doeth
the will
of God abideth
for ever.
And this
is the promise
that he
hath promised us,
even eternal life.
These things
have
I written
unto you
that believe
on the name
of the Son
of God;
that ye
may know that
ye have
eternal life,
and
that ye
may believe on the name
of the Son
of God.
Keep yourselves
in the love
of God,
looking for the mercy
of our Lord Jesus Christ
unto eternal life.
Behold,
he cometh with clouds;
and every eye
shall see him,
and
they also which
pierced him:
and all kindreds
of the earth
shall wail
because of him.
Even so,
Amen.
Thou hast
a few names
even in Sardis which
have not defiled
their garments;
and
they shall walk
with me
in white:
for they
are worthy.
And there shall be
no night there;
and
they need
no candle,
neither light
of the sun;
for the Lord God
giveth them light:
and
they shall reign
for ever and ever.
