And God said,
Behold,
I have given you
every herb bearing seed,
which is upon the face
of all
the earth,
and every tree,
in the which
is the fruit
of a tree yielding seed;
to you
it shall be
for meat.
And
to every beast
of the earth,
and to every fowl
of the air,
and
to every thing
that creepeth
upon the earth,
wherein there is life,
I have given
every green herb
for meat:
and it
was so.
And the LORD God
commanded
the man,
saying,
Of every tree
of the garden
thou mayest freely eat:
While the earth remaineth,
seedtime
and harvest,
and cold
and heat,
and summer
and winter,
and day and night shall not cease.
And God
blessed Noah
and his sons,
and
said unto them,
Be fruitful,
and multiply,
and replenish
the earth.
Every moving thing
that liveth
shall be meat
for you;
even as
the green herb
have
I given
you all things.
And Abraham
called
the name
of that place Jehovahjireh:
as it is said
to this day,
In the mount
of the LORD
it shall be seen.
That in blessing
I will bless thee,
and
in multiplying
I will multiply
thy seed
as the stars
of the heaven,
and as the sand
which is upon the sea shore;
and thy
seed
shall possess
the gate
of his enemies;
And Jacob
vowed a vow,
saying,
If God
will be with me,
and will keep me
in this way
that
I go,
and will give me
bread to eat,
and raiment
to put on,
So that
I come again
to my father's house
in peace;
then shall
the LORD
be my God:
But his bow abode
in strength,
and the arms
of his hands
were made strong
by the hands
of the mighty God
of Jacob;
(from thence is the shepherd,
the stone
of Israel:)
Even by the God
of thy father,
who shall help thee;
and
by the Almighty,
who shall bless thee
with blessings
of heaven above,
blessings
of the deep
that lieth under,
blessings
of the breasts,
and
of the womb:
But
if thou
shalt indeed obey
his voice,
and do all
that
I speak;
then
I will be an enemy
unto thine enemies,
and an adversary
unto thine adversaries.
For I
will cast
out the nations
before thee,
and enlarge
thy borders:
neither shall
any man
desire thy land,
when
thou shalt go up to
appear
before the LORD
thy God
thrice in the year.
And
if ye
shall say,
What
shall
we eat
the seventh year?
behold,
we shall not sow,
nor gather
in our increase:
Then
I will command
my blessing
upon you
in the sixth year,
and it
shall bring forth fruit
for three years.
And
ye shall sow
the eighth year,
and eat yet
of old fruit
until the ninth year;
until her fruits
come in
ye shall eat
of the old store.
Then I
will give
you rain
in due season,
and the land
shall yield
her increase,
and the trees
of the field
shall yield
their fruit.
And your threshing
shall reach
unto the vintage,
and the vintage
shall reach
unto the sowing time:
and ye
shall eat
your bread
to the full,
and dwell
in your land safely.
And
I will give peace
in the land,
and
ye shall lie down,
and none
shall make
you afraid:
and
I will rid evil beasts
out of the land,
neither shall
the sword
go
through your land.
And
ye shall eat
old store,
and bring forth
the old
because
of the new.
The LORD your God
hath multiplied you,
and,
behold,
ye are this day
as the stars
of heaven
for multitude.
For the LORD
thy God
hath blessed thee
in all
the works
of thy hand:
he knoweth
thy walking
through this
great wilderness:
these forty years the LORD
thy God
hath been
with thee;
thou hast lacked
nothing.
But ye
that did cleave
unto the LORD
your God
are alive every one
of you this day.
O that
there were
such an heart
in them,
that
they would fear me,
and keep all
my commandments
always,
that it
might be well with them,
and with their children for ever!
And
he will love thee,
and bless thee,
and multiply thee:
he will also bless the fruit
of thy womb,
and the fruit
of thy land,
thy corn,
and thy wine,
and thine oil,
the increase
of thy kine,
and the flocks
of thy sheep,
in the land which
he sware unto thy
fathers to give thee.
Thou shalt be blessed
above all people:
there shall not be male
or female barren
among you,
or among your cattle.
And the LORD
will take away
from thee all sickness,
and will put
none of the evil diseases
of Egypt,
which thou knowest,
upon thee;
but will lay them
upon all
them that hate thee.
And
he humbled thee,
and suffered
thee to hunger,
and fed thee
with manna,
which thou
knewest not,
neither did
thy fathers know;
that he
might make
thee know
that man
doth not live
by bread only,
but by every
word that
proceedeth
out of the mouth
of the LORD
doth man live.
But
thou shalt remember
the LORD thy God:
for it
is
he that
giveth thee power
to get wealth,
that he
may establish
his covenant which
he sware unto thy fathers,
as it is this day.
He doth execute
the judgment
of the fatherless
and widow,
and loveth the stranger,
in giving him food
and raiment.
A land
which the LORD thy God
careth for:
the eyes
of the LORD
thy God
are always
upon it,
from the beginning
of the year
even unto the end
of the year.
And there
ye shall eat
before the LORD
your God,
and
ye shall rejoice
in all
that
ye put
your hand unto,
ye and your households,
wherein the LORD
thy God
hath blessed thee.
Save
when there shall be
no poor
among you;
for the LORD
shall greatly bless thee
in the land
which the LORD thy God
giveth thee
for an inheritance
to possess it:
Only if
thou carefully hearken
unto the voice
of the LORD thy God,
to observe
to do all
these commandments
which I
command thee
this day.
For the LORD
thy God
blesseth thee,
as he promised thee:
and
thou shalt lend
unto many nations,
but
thou shalt not borrow;
and
thou shalt reign
over many nations,
but
they shall not reign
over thee.
And I
have led
you forty years
in the wilderness:
your clothes
are not waxen old
upon you,
and thy shoe
is not waxen old
upon thy foot.
As an eagle
stirreth up her nest,
fluttereth
over her young,
spreadeth abroad
her wings,
taketh them,
beareth them
on her wings:
So the LORD alone
did lead him,
and there was
no strange god
with him.
He made him
ride
on the high places
of the earth,
that he
might eat
the increase
of the fields;
and he
made him
to suck honey
out of the rock,
and oil
out of the flinty rock;
Butter of kine,
and milk
of sheep,
with fat
of lambs,
and rams of the breed
of Bashan,
and goats,
with the fat
of kidneys
of wheat;
and
thou didst drink
the pure blood
of the grape.
For it
is not a vain thing
for you;
because
it is your life:
and through this thing
ye shall prolong
your days
in the land,
whither
ye go over Jordan
to possess it.
This book
of the law
shall not depart
out of thy mouth;
but
thou shalt meditate
therein day and night,
that thou
mayest observe to do
according to all that is written
therein:
for then
thou shalt make
thy way prosperous,
and
then
thou shalt have
good success.
Then
she arose
with her daughters
in law,
that she
might return
from the country
of Moab:
for she
had heard
in the country
of Moab
how that
the LORD
had visited
his people
in giving them bread.
The LORD
maketh poor,
and maketh rich:
he bringeth low,
and
lifteth up.
He raiseth up the poor
out of the dust,
and lifteth up the beggar
from the dunghill,
to set them
among princes,
and to make them
inherit the throne
of glory:
for the pillars
of the earth
are the LORD's,
and he
hath set
the world
upon them.
And Jonathan
said
to the young man
that bare his armour,
Come,
and let us go over
unto the garrison
of these uncircumcised:
it may be
that the LORD
will work for us:
for there is
no restraint
to the LORD
to save
by many
or by few.
Now therefore so
shalt
thou say
unto my servant David,
Thus saith
the LORD
of hosts,
I took thee
from the sheepcote,
from following the sheep,
to be ruler
over my people,
over Israel:
And
I was with thee
whithersoever
thou wentest,
and have cut off all
thine enemies
out of thy sight,
and have made
thee a great name,
like
unto the name
of the great men
that are in the earth.
And keep
the charge
of the LORD thy God,
to walk
in his ways,
to keep his statutes,
and his commandments,
and his judgments,
and his testimonies,
as it is written
in the law
of Moses,
that thou
mayest prosper
in all
that thou doest,
and whithersoever
thou turnest thyself:
That the LORD
may continue
his word
which he
spake concerning me,
saying,
If thy children
take
heed
to their way,
to walk
before me
in truth
with all their heart
and
with all their soul,
there shall not fail
thee (said he) a man
on the throne
of Israel.
Now
therefore in the sight
of all Israel
the congregation
of the LORD,
and
in the audience
of our God,
keep
and seek
for all
the commandments
of the LORD your God:
that ye
may possess
this good land,
and leave it
for an inheritance
for your children
after you
for ever.
Both riches
and honour
come of thee,
and
thou reignest over all;
and in thine hand
is power
and might;
and in thine hand
it is
to make great,
and
to give strength
unto all.
But who
am I,
and
what is my people,
that we
should be able
to offer so
willingly after this sort?
for all
things
come
of thee,
and of thine
own
have
we given thee.
O LORD our God,
all this store that
we have prepared
to build
thee an house
for thine
holy name
cometh of thine hand,
and is all
thine own.
Wisdom
and knowledge
is granted
unto thee;
and
I will give thee riches,
and wealth,
and honour,
such as
none of the kings
have had
that
have been
before thee,
neither shall there
any after thee
have the like.
Ye shall not
need to
fight
in this battle:
set yourselves,
stand
ye still,
and see
the salvation
of the LORD
with you,
O Judah
and Jerusalem:
fear not,
nor be dismayed;
to morrow go out
against them:
for the LORD
will be
with you.
For if
ye turn again
unto the LORD,
your brethren
and your children
shall find compassion
before them that lead
them captive,
so that
they shall come again
into this land:
for the LORD
your God
is gracious
and merciful,
and will not turn away
his face
from you,
if ye
return unto him.
And Azariah
the chief priest
of the house
of Zadok
answered him,
and said,
Since the people
began
to bring the offerings
into the house
of the LORD,
we have had
enough to eat,
and have left
plenty:
for the LORD
hath blessed
his people;
and that which
is left
is this great store.
For I
was ashamed
to require
of the king a band
of soldiers
and horsemen
to help us
against the enemy
in the way:
because
we had spoken
unto the king,
saying,
The hand
of our God
is upon all
them for good
that seek him;
but his power
and his wrath
is against all
them that
forsake him.
And
they took strong cities,
and a fat land,
and possessed
houses full of all goods,
wells digged,
vineyards,
and oliveyards,
and fruit trees
in abundance:
so they
did eat,
and were filled,
and became fat,
and delighted themselves
in thy great goodness.
Although affliction
cometh not forth
of the dust,
neither doth trouble
spring out of the ground;
Yet man
is born
unto trouble,
as the sparks
fly upward.
I would seek
unto God,
and unto God
would
I commit
my cause:
Which doeth great things
and unsearchable;
marvellous things
without number:
Who giveth
rain
upon the earth,
and sendeth
waters
upon the fields:
To set up
on high
those that
be low;
that those
which mourn
may be exalted
to safety.
And
thou shalt know
that thy tabernacle
shall be
in peace;
and
thou shalt visit
thy habitation,
and shalt not sin.
Thou shalt know also
that thy
seed
shall be great,
and thine offspring
as the grass
of the earth.
Thou shalt come
to thy grave
in a full age,
like as a shock
of corn
cometh in
in his season.
Though thy
beginning
was small,
yet thy latter end
should greatly increase.
Behold,
God will not cast away
a perfect man,
neither will
he help
the evil doers:
Till he
fill thy
mouth
with laughing,
and thy lips
with rejoicing.
And thine
age
shall be clearer
than the noonday:
thou
shalt shine forth,
thou shalt be
as the morning.
And
thou shalt be secure,
because there is hope;
yea,
thou shalt dig
about thee,
and
thou shalt take
thy rest
in safety.
Also thou
shalt lie down,
and none
shall make thee afraid;
yea,
many shall make
suit unto thee.
He increaseth the nations,
and destroyeth them:
he enlargeth the nations,
and straiteneth them again.
Yet he
filled
their houses
with good things:
but
the counsel
of the wicked
is far
from me.
Then shalt thou
lay up gold
as dust,
and the gold
of Ophir
as the stones
of the brooks.
Yea,
the Almighty
shall be
thy defence,
and
thou shalt have plenty
of silver.
Thou shalt also decree
a thing,
and it
shall be established
unto thee:
and the light
shall shine upon thy ways.
When the Almighty
was yet with me,
when my children
were about me;
My root
was spread out
by the waters,
and the dew
lay all night
upon my branch.
My glory
was fresh in me,
and my bow
was renewed
in my hand.
For God
speaketh once,
yea twice,
yet man
perceiveth it not.
In a dream,
in a vision
of the night,
when deep sleep
falleth upon men,
in slumberings
upon the bed;
Then he
openeth
the ears
of men,
and sealeth their instruction,
That he
may withdraw man
from his purpose,
and hide pride
from man.
He keepeth
back his soul
from the pit,
and his life
from perishing
by the sword.
He is chastened also
with pain
upon his bed,
and the multitude
of his bones
with strong pain:
So that
his life
abhorreth bread,
and his soul dainty meat.
His flesh
is consumed away,
that it
cannot be seen;
and
his bones
that were not seen
stick out.
Yea,
his soul
draweth near
unto the grave,
and his life
to the destroyers.
If there be
a messenger
with him, an interpreter,
one among a thousand,
to shew
unto man his uprightness:
Then
he is gracious
unto him,
and saith,
Deliver him
from going down
to the pit:
I have found
a ransom.
His flesh
shall be fresher
than a child's:
he shall return
to the days
of his youth:
He shall pray
unto God,
and
he will be favourable
unto him:
and he
shall see
his face
with joy:
for he
will render
unto man
his righteousness.
He looketh
upon men,
and if any say,
I have sinned,
and perverted
that which
was right,
and it
profited me not;
He will deliver
his soul
from going
into the pit,
and his life
shall see
the light.
Lo,
all these things
worketh God
oftentimes with man,
To bring
back his soul
from the pit,
to be enlightened
with the light
of the living.
If they
obey and serve him,
they shall spend their days
in prosperity,
and their years
in pleasures.
For he
saith to the snow,
Be thou
on the earth;
likewise
to the small rain,
and
to the great rain
of his strength.
He sealeth up the hand
of every man;
that all men
may know
his work.
Then the beasts
go into dens,
and remain
in their places.
Out of the south
cometh the whirlwind:
and cold
out of the north.
By the breath
of God
frost
is given:
and the breadth
of the waters
is straitened.
Also by watering
he wearieth the thick cloud:
he scattereth his bright cloud:
And it
is turned round about
by his counsels:
that they
may do whatsoever
he commandeth them upon the face
of the world
in the earth.
He causeth it
to come,
whether for correction,
or for his land,
or for mercy.
Hearken unto this,
O Job:
stand still,
and consider
the wondrous works
of God.
Dost thou
know
when God
disposed them,
and caused
the light
of his cloud
to shine?
Dost thou
know the balancings
of the clouds,
the wondrous works
of him which
is perfect
in knowledge?
How thy garments
are warm,
when he
quieteth
the earth
by the south wind?
Hast
thou with him spread out
the sky,
which is strong,
and
as a molten looking glass?
Teach us
what
we shall say unto him;
for we
cannot order our speech
by reason
of darkness.
Shall
it be told him that
I speak?
if a man speak,
surely
he shall be swallowed up.
And now men
see not
the bright light which
is in the clouds:
but the wind passeth,
and cleanseth them.
Fair
weather
cometh out of the north:
with God
is terrible majesty.
Touching the Almighty,
we cannot find him out:
he is excellent
in power,
and in judgment,
and in plenty
of justice:
he will not afflict.
Men do therefore fear him:
he respecteth not
any that
are wise
of heart.
Who hath divided
a watercourse
for the overflowing
of waters,
or a way
for the lightning
of thunder;
To cause
it to rain
on the earth,
where no man is;
on the wilderness,
wherein there is
no man;
To satisfy the desolate
and waste ground;
and
to cause the bud
of the tender herb
to spring forth?
Who provideth for the raven
his food?
when his young
ones cry
unto God,
they wander
for lack
of meat.
Who hath sent
out the wild ass free?
or who
hath loosed the bands
of the wild ass?
Whose house
I have made
the wilderness,
and the barren
land his dwellings.
For thou
preventest him with the blessings
of goodness:
thou settest
a crown
of pure gold
on his head.
He asked life
of thee,
and
thou gavest it him,
even length
of days
for ever and ever.
His glory
is great
in thy salvation:
honour
and majesty
hast
thou
laid upon him.
The LORD
is my shepherd;
I shall not want.
He maketh me
to lie down
in green pastures:
he leadeth me beside
the still waters.
He restoreth my soul:
he leadeth me in the paths
of righteousness
for his name's sake.
Yea,
though I
walk
through the valley
of the shadow
of death,
I will fear no evil:
for thou art
with me;
thy rod
and thy staff
they comfort me.
Thou preparest
a table
before me
in the presence
of mine enemies:
thou anointest
my head with oil;
my cup
runneth over.
Surely goodness
and mercy
shall follow me all
the days
of my life:
and
I will dwell in the house
of the LORD
for ever.
Blessed
is the nation
whose God
is the LORD;
and the people whom
he hath chosen
for his own inheritance.
He fashioneth their hearts alike;
he considereth all
their works.
The angel
of the LORD
encampeth round
about them that fear him,
and delivereth them.
O fear the LORD,
ye his saints:
for there is
no want
to them that fear him.
The young lions
do lack,
and suffer hunger:
but they that
seek the LORD
shall not want
any good thing.
Thy righteousness
is like
the great mountains;
thy judgments
are a great deep:
O LORD,
thou preservest man
and beast.
How excellent
is thy lovingkindness,
O God!
therefore the children
of men put
their trust
under the shadow
of thy wings.
Trust in the LORD,
and do good;
so shalt thou
dwell
in the land,
and verily
thou shalt be fed.
They shall not be ashamed
in the evil time:
and in the days
of famine
they shall be satisfied.
For such as be blessed
of him shall inherit the earth;
and
they that
be cursed
of him
shall be cut off.
I have been young,
and now am old;
yet have
I not seen
the righteous forsaken,
nor his seed begging bread.
Wait on the LORD,
and keep his way,
and
he shall exalt thee
to inherit
the land:
when the wicked
are cut off,
thou shalt see it.
Many,
O LORD my God,
are thy wonderful works which
thou hast done,
and thy
thoughts
which are to us-ward:
they cannot be reckoned up
in order
unto thee:
if I
would declare
and
speak of them,
they are
more than can be numbered.
We have heard
with our ears,
O God,
our fathers
have told us,
what work thou
didst in their days,
in the times
of old.
How thou
didst drive
out the heathen
with thy hand,
and plantedst them;
how thou
didst afflict
the people,
and
cast them out.
For they
got not the land
in possession
by their own sword,
neither did
their own arm
save them:
but thy
right hand,
and thine arm,
and the light
of thy countenance,
because
thou hadst
a favour
unto them.
Thou visitest the earth,
and waterest it:
thou greatly enrichest it
with the river
of God,
which is full of water:
thou preparest them corn,
when
thou hast so
provided for it.
Thou waterest
the ridges
thereof abundantly:
thou
settlest
the furrows
thereof:
thou makest it soft
with showers:
thou blessest
the springing
thereof.
Thou crownest
the year
with thy goodness;
and thy paths
drop fatness.
They drop
upon the pastures
of the wilderness:
and the little hills
rejoice
on every side.
The pastures
are clothed
with flocks;
the valleys
also are covered over
with corn;
they shout
for joy,
they also sing.
Then shall
the earth
yield her increase;
and God,
even our own God,
shall bless us.
God setteth
the solitary
in families:
he bringeth out those which
are bound
with chains:
but the rebellious
dwell
in a dry land.
Thou,
O God,
didst send
a plentiful rain,
whereby
thou didst confirm
thine inheritance,
when it
was weary.
Thy congregation
hath dwelt
therein:
thou,
O God,
hast prepared
of thy goodness
for the poor.
For God
will save Zion,
and will build
the cities
of Judah:
that they
may dwell there,
and have it
in possession.
The seed
also of his servants
shall inherit it:
and
they
that love his name
shall dwell
therein.
By thee
have
I been holden up
from the womb:
thou art
he that
took me
out of my mother's bowels:
my praise
shall be continually
of thee.
I am as a wonder
unto many;
but
thou art
my strong refuge.
My mouth
shall shew
forth thy righteousness
and thy salvation all
the day;
for I
know not the numbers
thereof.
There shall be an handful
of corn
in the earth
upon the top
of the mountains;
the fruit
thereof shall shake like Lebanon:
and
they of the city
shall flourish like grass
of the earth.
But made
his own people to go
forth like sheep,
and guided them
in the wilderness like
a flock.
And
he led them
on safely,
so that
they feared not:
but the sea
overwhelmed
their enemies.
And
he brought them
to the border
of his sanctuary,
even to
this mountain,
which his right hand
had purchased.
He cast
out the heathen
also before them,
and divided them
an inheritance
by line,
and made
the tribes
of Israel
to dwell
in their tents.
He should have fed them also
with the finest
of the wheat:
and
with honey
out of the rock
should
I have satisfied thee.
Yea,
the LORD
shall give
that which
is good;
and our land
shall yield
her increase.
And of Zion
it shall be said,
This and
that man
was born in her:
and the highest himself
shall establish her.
Know
ye that
the LORD
he is God:
it is
he that
hath made us,
and not
we ourselves;
we are his people,
and the sheep
of his pasture.
Who forgiveth all
thine iniquities;
who healeth all
thy diseases;
Who redeemeth thy life
from destruction;
who crowneth thee
with lovingkindness
and tender
mercies;
Who satisfieth
thy mouth
with good things;
so that
thy youth
is renewed like
the eagle's.
He sendeth the springs
into the valleys,
which run
among the hills.
They give
drink
to every beast
of the field:
the wild asses
quench their thirst.
By them shall
the fowls
of the heaven
have their habitation,
which sing
among the branches.
He watereth the hills
from his chambers:
the earth
is satisfied
with the fruit
of thy works.
He causeth
the grass
to grow
for the cattle,
and herb
for the service
of man:
that he
may bring forth food
out of the earth;
And wine
that maketh glad
the heart of man,
and oil
to make his face
to shine,
and bread which
strengtheneth man's heart.
The trees
of the LORD
are full of sap;
the cedars
of Lebanon,
which he
hath planted;
Where the birds
make their nests:
as for the stork,
the fir trees
are her house.
The high hills
are a refuge
for the wild goats;
and the rocks
for the conies.
He appointed the moon
for seasons:
the sun
knoweth his going down.
Thou makest darkness,
and it
is night:
wherein all
the beasts
of the forest
do creep forth.
The young lions roar
after their prey,
and seek
their meat
from God.
The sun ariseth,
they gather themselves together,
and lay them down
in their dens.
Man goeth forth
unto his work
and to his labour
until the evening.
O LORD,
how manifold
are
thy works!
in wisdom
hast
thou made them all:
the earth
is full of
thy riches.
So is this
great
and wide sea,
wherein are
things creeping innumerable,
both small
and great beasts.
There go
the ships:
there is
that leviathan,
whom thou
hast made to play
therein.
These wait
all upon thee;
that thou
mayest give them
their meat
in due season.
That thou
givest them
they gather:
thou openest thine hand,
they are filled
with good.
Thou hidest
thy face,
they are troubled:
thou takest away
their breath,
they die,
and return
to their dust.
Thou sendest forth thy spirit,
they are created:
and thou
renewest
the face
of the earth.
He suffered no man
to do them wrong:
yea,
he reproved kings
for their sakes;
Saying,
Touch
not mine anointed,
and do
my prophets no harm.
Moreover he
called for
a famine
upon the land:
he brake
the whole staff
of bread.
He sent a man
before them,
even Joseph,
who was sold
for a servant:
Whose feet
they hurt
with fetters:
he was laid
in iron:
Until the time
that his word came:
the word
of the LORD
tried him.
The king
sent and loosed him;
even the ruler
of the people,
and let him
go free.
He made him
lord
of his house,
and ruler
of all his substance:
To bind his princes
at his pleasure;
and teach
his senators wisdom.
Israel
also came
into Egypt;
and Jacob
sojourned
in the land
of Ham.
And
he increased
his people greatly;
and made them stronger
than their enemies.
He turned their heart
to hate his people,
to deal subtilly
with his servants.
He sent Moses
his servant;
and Aaron whom
he had chosen.
They shewed
his signs
among them,
and wonders in the land
of Ham.
He sent darkness,
and made it dark;
and
they rebelled not
against his word.
He turned their waters
into blood,
and slew their fish.
Their land brought forth frogs
in abundance,
in the chambers
of their kings.
He spake,
and there came
divers sorts
of flies,
and lice
in all their coasts.
He gave them
hail for rain,
and flaming
fire
in their land.
He smote
their vines
also
and their fig trees;
and brake
the trees
of their coasts.
He spake,
and the locusts came,
and caterpillers,
and
that without number,
And did eat
up all the herbs
in their land,
and devoured
the fruit
of their ground.
He smote also all the firstborn
in their land,
the chief
of all their strength.
He brought them forth
also with silver
and gold:
and there was not
one feeble person
among their tribes.
Egypt was glad
when
they departed:
for the fear
of them fell upon them.
He spread
a cloud
for a covering;
and fire
to give
light in the night.
The people asked,
and
he brought quails,
and satisfied them
with the bread
of heaven.
He opened
the rock,
and the waters
gushed out;
they
ran in the dry
places like
a river.
For he
remembered
his holy promise,
and Abraham
his servant.
And
he brought forth
his people
with joy,
and his chosen
with gladness:
And gave them
the lands
of the heathen:
and
they inherited
the labour
of the people;
That they
might observe
his statutes,
and keep
his laws.
Praise ye the LORD.
O give
thanks
unto the LORD,
for he
is good:
for his mercy
endureth for ever.
Let the redeemed
of the LORD
say so,
whom
he hath redeemed
from the hand
of the enemy;
And gathered them
out of the lands,
from the east,
and
from the west,
from the north,
and
from the south.
They wandered
in the wilderness
in a solitary way;
they found
no city
to dwell in.
Hungry
and thirsty,
their soul
fainted in them.
Then they
cried
unto the LORD
in their trouble,
and
he delivered them
out of their
distresses.
And he
led
them forth
by the right way,
that they
might go
to a city
of habitation.
Oh that men
would praise
the LORD
for his goodness,
and
for his wonderful works
to the children
of men!
For he
satisfieth the longing soul,
and filleth
the hungry soul
with goodness.
Such as sit
in darkness
and in the shadow
of death,
being bound
in affliction
and iron;
Because
they rebelled
against the words
of God,
and contemned
the counsel
of the most High:
Therefore he
brought down
their heart
with labour;
they fell down,
and there was none
to help.
Then they
cried
unto the LORD
in their trouble,
and he
saved them
out of their
distresses.
He brought them
out of darkness
and the shadow
of death,
and brake
their bands in sunder.
Oh that men
would praise
the LORD
for his goodness,
and
for his wonderful works
to the children
of men!
For he
hath broken the gates
of brass,
and cut
the bars
of iron
in sunder.
Fools
because
of their transgression,
and
because
of their iniquities,
are afflicted.
Their soul
abhorreth all manner
of meat;
and
they draw near
unto the gates
of death.
Then they
cry
unto the LORD
in their trouble,
and
he saveth them
out of their
distresses.
He sent his word,
and healed them,
and delivered them
from their destructions.
Oh that men
would praise
the LORD
for his goodness,
and
for his wonderful works
to the children
of men!
And let them
sacrifice the sacrifices
of thanksgiving,
and declare
his works
with rejoicing.
They that go down
to the sea
in ships,
that do business
in great waters;
These see
the works
of the LORD,
and his wonders
in the deep.
For he commandeth,
and raiseth the stormy wind,
which lifteth up the waves
thereof.
They mount up to
the heaven,
they go down again
to the depths:
their soul
is melted
because of trouble.
They reel
to and fro,
and stagger like
a drunken man,
and are at their wit's end.
Then they
cry
unto the LORD
in their trouble,
and
he bringeth them
out of their
distresses.
He maketh
the storm a calm,
so that
the waves
thereof are still.
Then are
they glad
because
they be quiet;
so he
bringeth them
unto their desired haven.
Oh that men
would praise
the LORD
for his goodness,
and
for his wonderful works
to the children
of men!
Let them
exalt him also
in the congregation
of the people,
and praise him
in the assembly of the elders.
He turneth rivers
into a wilderness,
and the watersprings
into dry ground;
A fruitful land
into barrenness,
for the wickedness
of them that
dwell therein.
He turneth the wilderness
into a standing water,
and dry
ground
into watersprings.
And
there
he maketh
the hungry
to dwell,
that they
may prepare a city
for habitation;
And sow
the fields,
and plant
vineyards,
which may yield fruits
of increase.
He blesseth them also,
so that
they are multiplied greatly;
and suffereth not
their cattle
to decrease.
Again,
they are minished
and brought low
through oppression,
affliction,
and sorrow.
He poureth contempt
upon princes,
and causeth them
to wander
in the wilderness,
where there is
no way.
Yet setteth
he the poor
on high
from affliction,
and maketh him
families like
a flock.
The righteous
shall see it,
and rejoice:
and all iniquity
shall stop
her mouth.
Whoso is wise,
and will observe
these things,
even
they shall understand
the lovingkindness
of the LORD.
He hath given meat
unto them that fear him:
he will ever be mindful
of his covenant.
Who humbleth himself
to behold
the things
that are in heaven,
and
in the earth!
He raiseth up the poor
out of the dust,
and lifteth
the needy
out of the dunghill;
That he
may set him
with princes,
even with the princes
of his people.
He maketh
the barren woman
to keep house,
and
to be
a joyful mother
of children.
Praise ye the LORD.
The heaven,
even the heavens,
are the LORD's:
but the earth
hath
he given
to the children
of men.
I love the LORD,
because
he hath heard
my voice
and my supplications.
Because
he hath inclined
his ear
unto me,
therefore will
I call upon him
as long as I live.
The sorrows
of death
compassed me,
and the pains
of hell
gat hold upon me:
I found
trouble
and sorrow.
Then called
I upon the name
of the LORD;
O LORD,
I beseech thee,
deliver my soul.
Gracious is the LORD,
and righteous;
yea,
our God is merciful.
The LORD
preserveth the simple:
I was brought low,
and he helped me.
Return unto thy rest,
O my soul;
for the LORD
hath dealt bountifully
with thee.
For thou
hast delivered
my soul
from death,
mine eyes
from tears,
and my feet
from falling.
I will walk before the LORD
in the land
of the living.
I believed,
therefore have
I spoken:
I was greatly afflicted:
I said
in my haste,
All men
are liars.
What shall
I render
unto the LORD
for all
his benefits
toward me?
I will take the cup
of salvation,
and call
upon the name
of the LORD.
I will pay my vows
unto the LORD
now in the presence
of all his people.
Precious
in the sight
of the LORD
is the death
of his saints.
I called
upon the LORD
in distress:
the LORD
answered me,
and set me
in a large place.
The LORD
is on my side;
I will not fear:
what can man
do unto me?
Thou hast
thrust sore
at me that
I might fall:
but the LORD
helped me.
The LORD
is my strength
and song,
and is become
my salvation.
Except the LORD
build the house,
they labour
in vain that build it:
except the LORD
keep the city,
the watchman
waketh but in vain.
For thou
shalt eat the labour
of thine hands:
happy
shalt
thou be,
and it
shall be well
with thee.
Thy wife
shall be as a fruitful vine
by the sides
of thine house:
thy children like olive plants round
about thy table.
Behold,
that thus
shall
the man
be blessed that
feareth the LORD.
The LORD
shall bless thee
out of Zion:
and
thou shalt see
the good
of Jerusalem all
the days
of thy life.
Yea,
thou shalt see
thy children's children,
and peace
upon Israel.
He causeth
the vapours
to ascend
from the ends
of the earth;
he maketh lightnings
for the rain;
he bringeth the wind
out of his treasuries.
Who giveth food
to all flesh:
for his mercy
endureth for ever.
That our sons
may be
as plants
grown up
in their youth;
that our daughters
may be
as corner stones,
polished
after the similitude
of a palace:
That our garners
may be full,
affording all manner
of store:
that our sheep
may bring forth thousands
and ten thousands
in our streets:
That our oxen
may be strong
to labour;
that there be
no breaking in,
nor going out;
that there be
no
complaining
in our streets.
Happy is that people,
that is
in such a case:
yea,
happy is that people,
whose God is the LORD.
Which executeth judgment
for the oppressed:
which giveth food
to the hungry.
The LORD
looseth the prisoners:
The LORD
openeth
the eyes
of the blind:
the LORD
raiseth them
that are bowed down:
the LORD
loveth the righteous:
The LORD
preserveth the strangers;
he relieveth
the fatherless
and widow:
but the way
of the wicked
he turneth upside down.
Who covereth the heaven
with clouds,
who prepareth
rain
for the earth,
who maketh grass
to grow
upon the mountains.
He giveth to the beast
his food,
and
to the young ravens which cry.
For he
hath strengthened the bars
of thy gates;
he hath blessed
thy children
within thee.
He maketh peace
in thy borders,
and filleth thee
with the finest
of the wheat.
For the upright
shall dwell
in the land,
and the perfect
shall remain in it.
My son,
forget not
my law;
but let
thine heart
keep my commandments:
For length
of days,
and long life,
and peace,
shall
they add
to thee.
The blessing
of the LORD,
it maketh rich,
and he
addeth
no sorrow
with it.
The fear
of the LORD
prolongeth days:
but the years
of the wicked
shall be shortened.
When it
goeth well
with the righteous,
the city rejoiceth:
and
when the wicked perish,
there is shouting.
By the blessing
of the upright
the city
is exalted:
but it
is overthrown by the mouth
of the wicked.
Behold,
the righteous
shall be recompensed
in the earth:
much more
the wicked
and the sinner.
The righteous
eateth to the satisfying
of his soul:
but
the belly
of the wicked
shall want.
The house
of the wicked
shall be overthrown:
but the tabernacle
of the upright
shall flourish.
He that is slow
to wrath
is of great understanding:
but
he that is hasty
of spirit
exalteth folly.
Righteousness exalteth a nation:
but sin
is a reproach
to any people.
In the house
of the righteous
is
much treasure:
but in the revenues
of the wicked
is trouble.
When a man's ways
please the LORD,
he maketh even
his enemies to be
at peace
with him.
A man's heart
deviseth his way:
but the LORD
directeth his steps.
Whoso
causeth
the righteous
to go astray
in an evil way,
he shall fall
himself
into his own pit:
but the upright
shall have good things
in possession.
There is
nothing
better
for a man,
than
that
he should eat
and drink,
and that he
should make
his soul
enjoy good
in his labour.
This also
I saw,
that it
was from the hand
of God.
Every man also
to whom God
hath given riches
and wealth,
and hath given him
power to eat
thereof,
and to take
his portion,
and
to rejoice
in his labour;
this is the gift
of God.
If ye
be willing
and obedient,
ye shall eat the good
of the land:
For thou
hast been
a strength
to the poor,
a strength
to the needy
in his distress,
a refuge
from the storm,
a shadow
from the heat,
when
the blast
of the terrible
ones is as a storm
against the wall.
Then shall
he give
the rain
of thy seed,
that thou
shalt sow
the ground withal;
and bread
of the increase
of the earth,
and it
shall be
fat
and plenteous:
in that day
shall
thy cattle
feed
in large pastures.
Moreover the light
of the moon
shall be
as the light
of the sun,
and
the light
of the sun
shall be sevenfold,
as the light
of seven days,
in the day
that the LORD
bindeth up the breach
of his people,
and healeth
the stroke
of their wound.
He shall dwell
on high:
his place
of defence
shall be the munitions
of rocks:
bread shall be given him;
his waters shall be sure.
The beast
of the field
shall honour me,
the dragons
and the owls:
because
I give
waters
in the wilderness,
and rivers
in the desert,
to give
drink
to my people,
my chosen.
Hearken unto me,
O house of Jacob,
and all
the remnant
of the house
of Israel,
which are borne by me
from the belly,
which are carried
from the womb:
And
even to your old age
I am he;
and
even to hoar hairs
will
I carry you:
I have made,
and I
will bear;
even
I will carry,
and will deliver you.
Thus saith the LORD,
thy Redeemer,
the Holy One
of Israel;
I am
the LORD thy God
which teacheth thee
to profit,
which leadeth thee
by the way
that thou
shouldest go.
And
they thirsted not
when
he led them
through the deserts:
he caused
the waters
to flow
out of the rock for them:
he clave
the rock also,
and the waters
gushed out.
Look
unto Abraham your father,
and
unto Sarah that bare you:
for I
called him alone,
and blessed him,
and increased him.
For as the rain
cometh down,
and the snow
from heaven,
and returneth not thither,
but watereth the earth,
and maketh it
bring forth and bud,
that it
may give
seed
to the sower,
and bread
to the eater:
And their seed
shall be known
among the Gentiles,
and their offspring
among the people:
all that
see them
shall acknowledge them,
that they
are the seed
which the LORD
hath blessed.
But they that
have gathered it
shall eat it,
and praise
the LORD;
and
they that
have brought it
together shall drink it
in the courts
of my holiness.
Therefore thus
saith the Lord GOD, Behold,
my servants
shall eat,
but
ye shall be hungry:
behold,
my servants
shall drink,
but
ye shall be thirsty:
behold,
my servants
shall rejoice,
but
ye shall be ashamed:
They shall not labour
in vain,
nor bring forth
for trouble;
for they are
the seed
of the blessed
of the LORD,
and their offspring
with them.
Neither say
they
in their heart,
Let us
now fear
the LORD our God,
that giveth rain,
both the former
and the latter,
in his season:
he reserveth
unto us the appointed weeks
of the harvest.
When
he uttereth his voice,
there is a multitude
of waters
in the heavens,
and he
causeth
the vapours
to ascend
from the ends
of the earth;
he maketh lightnings
with rain,
and bringeth forth the wind
out of his treasures.
Are there
any
among the vanities
of the Gentiles
that can cause rain?
or can
the heavens
give showers?
art not thou he,
O LORD our God?
therefore we
will wait
upon thee:
for thou
hast made all
these things.
Shalt thou reign,
because
thou closest thyself
in cedar?
did not
thy father
eat and drink,
and do judgment
and justice,
and
then it
was well with him?
He judged the cause
of the poor
and needy;
then it
was well with him:
was not
this to know me?
saith the LORD.
And now have
I given all
these lands
into the hand
of Nebuchadnezzar
the king
of Babylon,
my servant;
and
the beasts
of the field
have
I given him also
to serve him.
And out of them shall proceed thanksgiving
and the voice
of them that make merry:
and
I will multiply them,
and
they shall not be few;
I will also glorify them,
and
they shall not be small.
Thus saith the LORD,
which giveth
the sun
for a light
by day,
and the ordinances
of the moon
and of the stars
for a light
by night,
which divideth
the sea
when the waves
thereof roar;
The LORD of hosts
is his name:
The voice of joy,
and the voice
of gladness,
the voice
of the bridegroom,
and the voice
of the bride,
the voice
of them that
shall say,
Praise the LORD
of hosts:
for the LORD
is good;
for his mercy
endureth for ever:
and of them that
shall bring the sacrifice
of praise
into the house
of the LORD.
For I
will cause
to return the captivity
of the land,
as at the first,
saith the LORD.
For,
behold,
I am for you,
and
I will turn
unto you,
and
ye shall be tilled
and sown:
And
I will multiply men
upon you,
all the house
of Israel,
even all of it:
and the cities
shall be inhabited,
and the wastes
shall be builded:
And
I will multiply
upon you man
and beast;
and
they shall increase
and bring fruit:
and
I will settle you
after your old estates,
and will do better
unto you
than
at your beginnings:
and ye
shall know
that I
am the LORD.
And
I will multiply
the fruit
of the tree,
and the increase
of the field,
that ye
shall receive
no more reproach
of famine
among the heathen.
Then the heathen
that are left round
about you
shall know
that I
the LORD
build the ruined places,
and plant that
that was desolate:
I the LORD
have spoken it,
and
I will do it.
As the holy flock,
as the flock
of Jerusalem
in her solemn feasts;
so shall
the waste cities
be filled
with flocks
of men:
and
they shall know
that I
am the LORD.
O thou king,
the most high God
gave Nebuchadnezzar thy
father a kingdom,
and majesty,
and glory,
and honour:
And
when he
came
to the den,
he cried
with a lamentable voice
unto Daniel:
and the king
spake
and said
to Daniel, O Daniel,
servant of the living God,
is thy God,
whom
thou servest continually,
able to deliver thee
from the lions?
Then said Daniel
unto the king,
O king,
live for ever.
My God
hath sent
his angel,
and hath shut
the lions' mouths,
that they
have not hurt me:
forasmuch
as before him
innocency
was found in me;
and also before thee,
O king,
have
I done no hurt.
For she
did not know
that I
gave her corn,
and wine,
and oil,
and multiplied
her silver
and gold,
which they
prepared
for Baal.
And it
shall come
to pass
in that day,
I will hear,
saith the LORD,
I will hear
the heavens,
and
they shall hear
the earth;
And the earth
shall hear
the corn,
and the wine,
and the oil;
and
they shall hear
Jezreel.
I taught Ephraim
also to go,
taking them
by their arms;
but
they knew not that
I healed them.
Fear not,
O land;
be glad
and rejoice:
for the LORD
will do
great things.
Be glad then,
ye children
of Zion,
and rejoice
in the LORD your God:
for he
hath given
you the former rain moderately,
and he
will cause
to come down
for you the rain,
the former rain,
and the latter rain
in the first month.
And
ye shall eat
in plenty,
and be satisfied,
and praise
the name
of the LORD your God,
that hath dealt wondrously
with you:
and my people
shall never be ashamed.
And also
I have withholden
the rain
from you,
when there were yet three months
to the harvest:
and
I caused it
to rain
upon one city,
and caused it not
to rain
upon another city:
one piece
was rained upon,
and the piece
whereupon
it rained
not withered.
So two
or three cities
wandered
unto one city,
to drink water;
but
they were not satisfied:
yet have
ye not returned unto me,
saith the LORD.
I have smitten you
with blasting
and mildew:
when your gardens
and your vineyards
and your fig trees
and your olive trees increased,
the palmerworm
devoured them:
yet have
ye not returned unto me,
saith the LORD.
I have sent
among you
the pestilence
after the manner
of Egypt:
your young men
have
I slain
with the sword,
and have taken away
your horses;
and I
have made
the stink
of your camps to
come up
unto your nostrils:
yet have
ye not returned unto me,
saith the LORD.
I have overthrown
some of you,
as God
overthrew Sodom
and Gomorrah,
and
ye were as a firebrand plucked
out of the burning:
yet have
ye not returned unto me,
saith the LORD.
Therefore thus
will
I do unto thee,
O Israel:
and
because
I will do this
unto thee,
prepare to meet
thy God, O Israel.
Behold,
the days come,
saith the LORD,
that the plowman
shall overtake
the reaper,
and the treader
of grapes
him that
soweth seed;
and the mountains
shall drop
sweet wine,
and all
the hills
shall melt.
And the LORD God
prepared a gourd,
and made it
to come up
over Jonah,
that it
might be a shadow
over his head,
to deliver him
from his grief.
So Jonah
was exceeding glad
of the gourd.
Is the seed
yet in the barn?
yea,
as yet the vine,
and the fig tree,
and the pomegranate,
and the olive tree,
hath not brought forth:
from this day
will
I bless you.
Thus
saith
the LORD
of hosts;
If thou
wilt walk
in my ways,
and
if thou
wilt keep
my charge,
then
thou shalt also judge
my house,
and shalt also keep
my courts,
and I
will give
thee places
to walk
among these
that stand by.
For the seed
shall be prosperous;
the vine
shall give
her fruit,
and the ground
shall give
her increase,
and the heavens
shall give
their dew;
and I
will cause
the remnant
of this people
to possess all
these things.
For how great
is his goodness,
and how great
is his beauty!
corn shall make
the young men cheerful,
and new wine
the maids.
Ask
ye of the LORD rain
in the time
of the latter rain;
so the LORD
shall make
bright clouds,
and give them
showers of rain,
to every one grass
in the field.
Bring
ye all
the tithes
into the storehouse,
that there may be
meat in mine house,
and prove me
now herewith,
saith the LORD
of hosts,
if I
will not open
you the windows
of heaven,
and pour you
out a blessing,
that there shall not be
room enough
to receive it.
And all nations
shall call
you blessed:
for ye
shall be
a delightsome land,
saith the LORD
of hosts.
Blessed are the meek:
for they
shall inherit
the earth.
That ye
may be the children
of your Father
which is in heaven:
for he
maketh his sun
to rise
on the evil
and on the good,
and sendeth
rain on the just
and on the unjust.
Behold the fowls
of the air:
for they
sow not,
neither do
they reap,
nor gather
into barns;
yet your heavenly Father
feedeth them.
Are
ye not much better
than they?
Wherefore,
if God so
clothe the grass
of the field,
which to day is,
and to morrow
is cast
into the oven,
shall
he not much more
clothe you,
O ye
of little faith?
Therefore take
no thought,
saying,
What
shall
we eat?
or,
What
shall
we drink?
or,
Wherewithal
shall we be clothed?
(For
after all
these things
do the Gentiles seek:)
for your heavenly Father
knoweth that
ye have
need
of all these things.
But seek
ye first
the kingdom
of God,
and his righteousness;
and all these things
shall be added
unto you.
Are not
two sparrows
sold
for a farthing?
and one
of them shall not fall
on the ground
without your Father.
But the very hairs
of your head
are all numbered.
Fear
ye not therefore,
ye are of more value
than many sparrows.
And
he said unto them,
When I
sent you
without purse,
and scrip,
and shoes,
lacked ye any thing?
And they said,
Nothing.
Our fathers
did eat manna
in the desert;
as it is written,
He gave them bread
from heaven
to eat.
Nevertheless
he left not
himself
without witness,
in that
he did good,
and gave us
rain from heaven,
and fruitful seasons,
filling our hearts
with food and gladness.
But as it
is written,
Eye hath not seen,
nor ear heard,
neither have entered
into the heart
of man,
the things which God
hath prepared
for them that love him.
Upon the first day
of the week
let
every one
of you
lay
by him in store,
as God
hath prospered him,
that there be
no gatherings
when I come.
And God
is able
to make
all grace
abound toward you;
that ye,
always having all sufficiency
in all things,
may abound
to every good work:
(As it
is written,
He hath dispersed abroad;
he hath given
to the poor:
his righteousness
remaineth for ever.
Now he that
ministereth
seed
to the sower both minister bread
for your food,
and multiply
your seed sown,
and increase
the fruits
of your righteousness;)
