If there be
among you
a poor man
of one
of thy brethren
within any of thy
gates
in thy
land which the LORD
thy God
giveth thee,
thou shalt not harden
thine heart,
nor shut
thine hand
from thy poor brother:
But
thou shalt open
thine hand wide
unto him,
and shalt surely lend him
sufficient
for his need,
in that
which he wanteth.
For the poor
shall never cease
out of the land:
therefore I
command thee,
saying,
Thou
shalt open
thine hand wide
unto thy brother,
to thy poor,
and to thy needy,
in thy land.
Every man
shall give as he
is able,
according to the blessing
of the LORD thy God
which he
hath given thee.
Blessed
is
he that
considereth the poor:
the LORD
will deliver him
in time
of trouble.
Honour the LORD
with thy substance,
and
with the firstfruits
of all
thine increase:
There is
that scattereth,
and yet increaseth;
and there is
that withholdeth
more than is meet,
but it
tendeth to poverty.
The liberal soul
shall be made fat:
and he
that watereth
shall be watered also
himself.
There is
that maketh himself rich,
yet hath nothing:
there is
that maketh himself poor,
yet hath great riches.
He that
despiseth
his neighbour sinneth:
but he that
hath mercy
on the poor,
happy is he.
He that
hath
pity
upon the poor
lendeth unto the LORD;
and
that which
he hath given
will
he pay him again.
He coveteth greedily all
the day long:
but the righteous
giveth and spareth not.
He that
hath
a bountiful eye
shall be blessed;
for he
giveth of his bread
to the poor.
He that
giveth unto the poor
shall not lack:
but
he that
hideth his eyes
shall have
many a curse.
She stretcheth out her hand
to the poor;
yea,
she reacheth forth her hands
to the needy.
Cast thy bread
upon the waters:
for thou
shalt find it
after many days.
But the liberal
deviseth liberal things;
and
by liberal things
shall he stand.
Bring
ye all
the tithes
into the storehouse,
that there may be
meat in mine house,
and prove me
now herewith,
saith the LORD
of hosts,
if I
will not open
you the windows
of heaven,
and pour you
out a blessing,
that there shall not be
room enough
to receive it.
Take heed that
ye do not
your alms
before men,
to be seen of them:
otherwise
ye have
no reward
of your Father
which is in heaven.
Therefore when
thou doest thine alms,
do not sound a trumpet
before thee,
as the hypocrites
do in the synagogues
and in the streets,
that they
may have glory of men.
Verily
I say unto you,
They
have
their reward.
But
when
thou doest alms,
let not
thy left hand
know what
thy right hand doeth:
That thine alms
may be in secret:
and thy Father
which seeth in secret
himself
shall reward
thee openly.
Jesus
said unto him,
If thou
wilt be perfect,
go and sell that
thou hast,
and give
to the poor,
and
thou shalt have
treasure
in heaven:
and come
and follow me.
He answereth
and
saith unto them,
He that
hath two coats,
let him
impart to him
that hath none;
and he that
hath meat,
let him do likewise.
Give,
and it
shall be given
unto you;
good measure,
pressed down,
and
shaken together,
and running over,
shall men
give into your bosom.
For with the same measure
that
ye mete withal it
shall be measured
to you again.
But
rather give alms
of such things
as ye have;
and,
behold,
all things
are clean
unto you.
But woe unto you,
Pharisees!
for ye
tithe
mint
and rue
and all manner
of herbs,
and pass
over judgment
and the love
of God:
these ought
ye to have done,
and not
to leave
the other undone.
Sell that
ye have,
and give alms;
provide yourselves
bags
which wax not old,
a treasure
in the heavens
that faileth not,
where no thief approacheth,
neither moth corrupteth.
For where
your treasure is,
there will
your heart be also.
I have shewed
you all things,
how that so
labouring
ye ought to support
the weak,
and
to remember the words
of the Lord Jesus,
how he said,
It is more blessed
to give than
to receive.
Distributing
to the necessity
of saints;
given
to hospitality.
And
though I
bestow all
my goods
to feed
the poor,
and
though I
give my body
to be burned,
and have not
charity,
it profiteth me
nothing.
Upon the first day
of the week
let
every one
of you
lay
by him in store,
as God
hath prospered him,
that there be
no gatherings
when I come.
But by an equality,
that now at this time
your abundance
may be a supply
for their want,
that their abundance
also may be a supply
for your want:
that there may be
equality:
But this
I say,
He
which soweth
sparingly shall reap
also sparingly;
and he which
soweth
bountifully shall reap
also bountifully.
Every man
according as he
purposeth in his heart,
so let him give;
not grudgingly,
or of necessity:
for God
loveth a cheerful giver.
Let him
that stole
steal no more:
but rather let him labour,
working
with his hands
the thing which
is good,
that he
may have to give
to him that needeth.
But
if any
provide not
for his own,
and specially for those
of his own house,
he hath denied
the faith,
and is worse
than an infidel.
If any man
or woman
that believeth
have widows,
let them
relieve them,
and let not
the church
be charged;
that it
may relieve them
that are widows indeed.
Charge them that
are rich in
this world,
that they
be not highminded,
nor trust
in uncertain riches,
but in the living God,
who giveth us richly all
things
to enjoy;
But
whoso
hath
this world's good,
and seeth
his brother
have need,
and shutteth up his bowels
of compassion
from him,
how dwelleth the love
of God in him?
My little children,
let us
not love in word,
neither in tongue;
but in deed
and in truth.
