And
they journeyed:
and
the terror
of God
was upon the cities
that were round
about them,
and
they did not pursue
after the sons
of Jacob.
Moreover thou
shalt provide
out of all
the people able men,
such as
fear God,
men of truth,
hating covetousness;
and place such
over them,
to be rulers
of thousands,
and rulers
of hundreds,
rulers
of fifties,
and rulers
of tens:
And all
the people
saw
the thunderings,
and the lightnings,
and the noise
of the trumpet,
and the mountain smoking:
and
when the people saw it,
they removed,
and
stood afar off.
And they
said
unto Moses,
Speak
thou with us,
and we
will hear:
but let not
God
speak with us,
lest we die.
And Moses
said
unto the people,
Fear not:
for God
is come
to prove you,
and that
his fear
may be
before your faces,
that ye
sin not.
Neither shall
ye profane my holy name;
but
I will be hallowed
among the children
of Israel:
I am the LORD
which hallow you,
Specially the day
that thou
stoodest before the LORD
thy God in Horeb,
when the LORD
said unto me,
Gather me
the people
together,
and
I will make them
hear my words,
that they
may learn
to fear me all
the days
that they
shall live
upon the earth,
and
that they
may teach
their children.
O that
there were
such an heart
in them,
that
they would fear me,
and keep all
my commandments
always,
that it
might be well with them,
and with their children for ever!
That thou
mightest fear the LORD
thy God,
to keep all
his statutes
and his commandments,
which I
command thee,
thou,
and thy son,
and thy son's son,
all the days
of thy life;
and
that thy days
may be prolonged.
And now,
Israel,
what doth
the LORD thy God
require
of thee,
but to fear
the LORD thy God,
to walk
in all his ways,
and to love him,
and
to serve the LORD
thy God
with all thy heart
and
with all thy soul,
Thou shalt fear
the LORD thy God;
him shalt
thou serve,
and to him
shalt
thou cleave,
and swear
by his name.
He is
thy praise,
and
he is thy God,
that hath done
for thee
these great
and terrible things,
which thine
eyes
have seen.
The LORD
shall bring a nation
against thee
from far,
from the end
of the earth,
as swift
as the eagle flieth;
a nation whose tongue
thou shalt not understand;
If thou
wilt not observe
to do all
the words
of this law
that are written
in this book,
that thou
mayest fear
this glorious
and fearful name,
THE LORD THY GOD;
That all the people
of the earth
might know
the hand
of the LORD,
that it
is mighty:
that ye
might fear
the LORD
your God
for ever.
Now therefore
fear the LORD,
and serve him
in sincerity
and in truth:
and put away
the gods
which your fathers
served
on the other side
of the flood,
and in Egypt;
and serve
ye the LORD.
Wherefore
the LORD God
of Israel saith,
I said indeed
that thy house,
and the house
of thy father,
should walk
before me
for ever:
but now
the LORD saith,
Be it far
from me;
for them that honour
me I
will honour,
and
they that
despise me
shall be lightly esteemed.
If ye
will fear
the LORD,
and serve him,
and obey
his voice,
and not rebel
against the commandment
of the LORD,
then shall both
ye and also
the king
that reigneth
over you
continue
following
the LORD your God:
Only fear
the LORD,
and serve him
in truth
with all your heart:
for consider how
great things
he hath done
for you.
The God
of Israel said,
the Rock
of Israel
spake to me,
He that
ruleth over men
must be just,
ruling in the fear of God.
That they
may fear
thee all
the days that
they live
in the land
which thou
gavest unto our fathers.
But the LORD,
who brought
you up
out of the land
of Egypt
with great power
and a stretched out arm,
him shall
ye fear,
and him
shall
ye worship,
and to him
shall
ye do sacrifice.
Fear before him,
all the earth:
the world
also shall be stable,
that it
be not moved.
Wherefore now let the fear
of the LORD
be upon you;
take
heed
and do it:
for there is no iniquity
with the LORD our God,
nor respect
of persons,
nor taking
of gifts.
And
he charged them,
saying,
Thus
shall
ye do
in the fear
of the LORD,
faithfully,
and
with a perfect heart.
Now therefore let us
make a covenant
with our God
to put away all the wives,
and
such as are born of them,
according to
the counsel
of my lord,
and of those
that tremble
at the commandment
of our God;
and let
it be done according to
the law.
Also I said,
It is not good
that
ye do:
ought
ye not
to walk
in the fear
of our God
because
of the reproach
of the heathen our enemies?
And unto man
he said,
Behold,
the fear
of the LORD,
that is wisdom;
and
to depart
from evil
is understanding.
Men do therefore fear him:
he respecteth not
any that
are wise
of heart.
Serve the LORD
with fear,
and rejoice
with trembling.
Stand in awe,
and sin not:
commune
with your own heart
upon your bed,
and be still.
Selah.
In whose eyes
a vile person
is contemned;
but
he honoureth them
that fear the LORD.
He that
sweareth to his own hurt,
and changeth not.
The fear
of the LORD
is clean,
enduring
for ever:
the judgments
of the LORD
are true
and righteous altogether.
Ye that fear
the LORD,
praise him;
all
ye the seed
of Jacob,
glorify him;
and fear him,
all
ye the seed
of Israel.
What man
is he
that feareth the LORD?
him shall
he teach
in the way
that
he shall choose.
Oh how great
is thy goodness,
which thou
hast laid up
for them that fear thee;
which thou
hast wrought
for them that trust
in thee
before the sons
of men!
Let all
the earth
fear the LORD:
let all the inhabitants
of the world stand
in awe of him.
The angel
of the LORD
encampeth round
about them that fear him,
and delivereth them.
O fear the LORD,
ye his saints:
for there is
no want
to them that fear him.
Come,
ye children,
hearken unto me:
I will teach
you the fear
of the LORD.
Be still,
and know
that I
am God:
I will be exalted
among the heathen,
I will be exalted
in the earth.
The righteous
also shall see,
and fear,
and
shall laugh at him:
Thou hast given
a banner
to them that fear thee,
that it
may be displayed
because
of the truth.
Selah.
And all men
shall fear,
and shall declare
the work of God;
for they
shall wisely consider
of his doing.
God shall bless us;
and all
the ends
of the earth
shall fear him.
They shall fear
thee as long
as the sun
and moon endure,
throughout all generations.
Thou,
even thou,
art to be feared:
and
who may stand
in thy sight
when once
thou art angry?
Surely
his salvation
is nigh them
that fear him;
that glory
may dwell
in our land.
Teach me thy way,
O LORD;
I will walk
in thy truth:
unite my heart
to fear thy name.
God is greatly
to be feared
in the assembly of the saints,
and
to be had
in reverence
of all
them that
are about him.
Who knoweth
the power
of thine anger?
even according to
thy fear,
so is thy wrath.
For the LORD
is great,
and greatly
to be praised:
he is
to be feared above all gods.
O worship the LORD
in the beauty
of holiness:
fear before him,
all the earth.
The LORD reigneth;
let the people tremble:
he sitteth between the cherubims;
let the earth
be moved.
So the heathen
shall fear
the name
of the LORD,
and all
the kings
of the earth
thy glory.
For as the heaven
is high above
the earth,
so great
is
his mercy
toward them
that fear him.
Like as a father
pitieth his children,
so the LORD
pitieth them
that fear him.
But
the mercy
of the LORD
is from everlasting to everlasting
upon them that fear him,
and his righteousness
unto children's children;
He hath given meat
unto them that fear him:
he will ever be mindful
of his covenant.
Praise ye the LORD.
Blessed is the man
that feareth the LORD,
that delighteth greatly
in his commandments.
Ye that fear
the LORD,
trust in the LORD:
he is their help
and their shield.
He will bless them
that fear the LORD,
both small
and great.
Let them now
that fear the LORD say,
that his mercy
endureth for ever.
I am a companion
of all
them that fear thee,
and of them that
keep thy precepts.
They
that fear thee
will be glad
when they
see me;
because
I
have hoped in thy word.
Let
those that fear thee turn
unto me,
and those that
have known
thy testimonies.
Blessed is every one
that feareth the LORD;
that walketh in his ways.
But there is forgiveness
with thee,
that thou
mayest be feared.
Bless the LORD,
O house of Levi:
ye that fear
the LORD,
bless the LORD.
He will fulfil
the desire
of them that fear him:
he also will hear
their cry,
and will save them.
The LORD
taketh pleasure
in them that fear him,
in those
that hope
in his mercy.
The fear
of the LORD
is the beginning
of knowledge:
but fools
despise wisdom
and instruction.
Then shalt thou
understand the fear
of the LORD,
and find
the knowledge
of God.
Be not wise
in thine
own eyes:
fear the LORD,
and depart
from evil.
The fear
of the LORD
is to hate evil:
pride,
and arrogancy,
and the evil way,
and the froward mouth,
do I hate.
The fear
of the LORD
prolongeth days:
but the years
of the wicked
shall be shortened.
Whoso
despiseth
the word
shall be destroyed:
but he
that
feareth
the commandment
shall be rewarded.
He that
walketh in his uprightness
feareth the LORD:
but
he that is perverse
in his ways
despiseth him.
A wise man feareth,
and departeth from evil:
but the fool rageth,
and is confident.
In the fear
of the LORD
is strong confidence:
and his children
shall have
a place
of refuge.
The fear
of the LORD
is a fountain
of life,
to depart
from the snares
of death.
Better is little
with the fear
of the LORD
than great treasure
and trouble
therewith.
The fear
of the LORD
is the instruction
of wisdom;
and before honour
is humility.
By mercy
and truth iniquity
is purged:
and by the fear
of the LORD men
depart
from evil.
The fear
of the LORD
tendeth to life:
and he that
hath it
shall abide satisfied;
he shall not be visited
with evil.
By humility and
the fear
of the LORD
are riches,
and honour,
and life.
Let not
thine heart
envy sinners:
but be
thou in the fear
of the LORD all
the day long.
My son,
fear
thou the LORD
and the king:
and meddle not
with them that
are given
to change:
Happy
is
the man
that feareth alway:
but
he that
hardeneth
his heart
shall fall
into mischief.
Favour is deceitful,
and beauty
is vain:
but a woman
that feareth the LORD,
she shall be praised.
I know that,
whatsoever God doeth,
it shall be
for ever:
nothing
can be put to it,
nor any thing
taken
from it:
and God
doeth it,
that men
should fear
before him.
It is good
that thou
shouldest take
hold of this;
yea,
also from this
withdraw not
thine hand:
for he
that
feareth
God shall come forth
of them all.
Though a sinner
do evil
an hundred times,
and his days
be prolonged,
yet surely
I know that it
shall be well
with them that fear God,
which fear
before him:
Let us
hear the conclusion
of the whole matter:
Fear God,
and keep
his commandments:
for this
is the whole duty
of man.
Enter
into the rock,
and hide thee
in the dust,
for fear
of the LORD,
and for the glory
of his majesty.
And
they shall go into the holes
of the rocks,
and
into the caves
of the earth,
for fear
of the LORD,
and for the glory
of his majesty,
when he
ariseth
to shake terribly the earth.
In that day a man
shall cast
his idols
of silver,
and his idols
of gold,
which they
made each one
for himself
to worship,
to the moles
and to the bats;
To go
into the clefts
of the rocks,
and into the tops
of the ragged rocks,
for fear
of the LORD,
and for the glory
of his majesty,
when he
ariseth
to shake terribly the earth.
Sanctify the LORD
of hosts himself;
and let him
be your fear,
and let him
be your dread.
Therefore shall
the strong people
glorify thee,
the city
of the terrible nations
shall fear thee.
Wherefore
the Lord said,
Forasmuch
as this people
draw near me
with their mouth,
and
with their lips
do honour me,
but have removed
their heart far
from me,
and their fear
toward me is taught
by the precept
of men:
But
when
he seeth his children,
the work
of mine hands,
in the midst
of him,
they shall sanctify
my name,
and sanctify
the Holy One
of Jacob,
and shall fear
the God
of Israel.
And wisdom
and knowledge
shall be the stability
of thy times,
and strength
of salvation:
the fear
of the LORD
is his treasure.
Hear,
ye that
are
far off,
what I
have done;
and,
ye that are near,
acknowledge
my might.
Who is among you
that feareth the LORD,
that obeyeth the voice
of his servant,
that walketh in darkness,
and hath
no light?
let him
trust in the name
of the LORD,
and stay
upon his God.
So shall
they fear
the name
of the LORD
from the west,
and his glory
from the rising
of the sun.
When the enemy
shall come in like
a flood,
the Spirit
of the LORD
shall lift
up a standard
against him.
Then
thou shalt see,
and
flow together,
and thine heart
shall fear,
and be enlarged;
because
the abundance
of the sea
shall be converted
unto thee,
the forces
of the Gentiles
shall come
unto thee.
Fear ye not me?
saith the LORD:
will
ye not tremble
at my presence,
which have placed
the sand
for the bound
of the sea
by a perpetual decree,
that it
cannot pass it:
and
though the waves
thereof toss themselves,
yet can
they not prevail;
though they roar,
yet can
they not pass
over it?
Who would not fear thee,
O King
of nations?
for to thee
doth
it appertain:
forasmuch
as among all
the wise men
of the nations,
and
in all their kingdoms,
there is none like
unto thee.
And
I will give them
one heart,
and one way,
that they
may fear me
for ever,
for the good
of them,
and of their children
after them:
And I
will make
an everlasting covenant
with them,
that I
will not turn away from them,
to do them good;
but I
will put
my fear
in their hearts,
that they
shall not depart from me.
And it
shall be
to me a name
of joy,
a praise
and an honour
before all
the nations
of the earth,
which shall hear all
the good
that I
do unto them:
and
they shall fear
and tremble
for all the goodness
and
for all
the prosperity that
I procure
unto it.
Afterward shall
the children
of Israel return,
and seek
the LORD their God,
and David
their king;
and shall fear
the LORD
and his goodness
in the latter days.
The nations
shall see
and be confounded
at all their might:
they shall lay their hand
upon their mouth,
their ears shall be deaf.
They shall lick
the dust like a serpent,
they
shall move
out of their holes like worms
of the earth:
they shall be afraid
of the LORD our God,
and shall fear
because of thee.
Hold thy peace
at the presence
of the Lord GOD:
for the day
of the LORD
is at hand:
for the LORD
hath prepared
a sacrifice,
he hath bid
his guests.
I said,
Surely
thou wilt fear me,
thou wilt receive
instruction;
so their dwelling
should not be cut off,
howsoever
I punished them:
but
they rose early,
and corrupted all
their doings.
Be silent,
O all flesh,
before the LORD:
for he
is raised up
out of his holy habitation.
A son
honoureth his father,
and a
servant his master:
if then
I be a father,
where is
mine honour?
and
if I
be a master,
where is my fear?
saith the LORD
of hosts
unto you,
O priests,
that despise
my name.
And ye say,
Wherein
have
we despised
thy name?
Then they
that
feared
the LORD
spake often one
to another:
and the LORD hearkened,
and heard it,
and
a book
of remembrance
was written
before him
for them that
feared the LORD,
and that
thought
upon his name.
But unto you
that fear my name
shall the Sun
of righteousness
arise
with healing
in his wings;
and
ye shall go forth,
and grow up
as calves
of the stall.
And fear not them which
kill the body,
but are not able
to kill the soul:
but
rather fear him which
is able
to destroy both soul
and body
in hell.
And his mercy
is on them that fear him
from generation to generation.
But
I will forewarn
you whom
ye shall fear:
Fear him,
which after he
hath killed
hath
power
to cast
into hell;
yea,
I say unto you,
Fear him.
But the other answering
rebuked him,
saying,
Dost not
thou fear God,
seeing
thou art
in the same condemnation?
But in every nation
he that
feareth him,
and worketh righteousness,
is accepted with him.
Then Paul stood up,
and beckoning
with his hand said,
Men of Israel,
and
ye that fear God,
give audience.
Men and brethren,
children
of the stock
of Abraham,
and whosoever
among you
feareth God,
to you
is the word
of this salvation sent.
Well;
because
of unbelief
they were broken off,
and
thou standest by faith.
Be not highminded,
but fear:
Having therefore
these promises,
dearly beloved,
let us
cleanse ourselves
from all filthiness
of the flesh
and spirit,
perfecting holiness
in the fear
of God.
Submitting yourselves one
to another
in the fear
of God.
Servants,
be obedient
to them
that are your masters
according to the flesh,
with fear
and trembling,
in singleness
of your heart,
as unto Christ;
Wherefore,
my beloved,
as ye
have always obeyed,
not as
in my presence only,
but
now much more
in my absence,
work out
your own salvation
with fear and trembling.
Servants,
obey
in all things
your masters
according to the flesh;
not with eyeservice,
as menpleasers;
but in singleness
of heart,
fearing God;
So also Christ
glorified not
himself
to be made
an high priest;
but
he that
said unto him,
Thou art my Son,
to day
have
I begotten thee.
Who in the days
of his flesh,
when
he had offered
up prayers
and supplications
with strong crying
and tears
unto him that
was able
to save him
from death,
and was heard
in that
he feared;
Wherefore
we receiving
a kingdom which
cannot be moved,
let us
have grace,
whereby
we may serve God
acceptably with reverence
and godly fear:
For our God
is
a consuming fire.
Thou believest
that there is
one God;
thou doest well:
the devils
also believe,
and tremble.
And
if ye
call on
the Father,
who
without respect
of persons
judgeth according to
every man's work,
pass the time
of your sojourning here
in fear:
Servants,
be subject to
your masters
with all fear;
not
only to the good
and gentle,
but also to the froward.
While they
behold your chaste conversation
coupled with fear.
But sanctify
the Lord God
in your hearts:
and be ready always
to give an answer
to every man
that asketh you
a reason
of the hope
that is in you
with meekness
and fear:
And we
have known
and believed
the love that God
hath to us.
God is love;
and
he that
dwelleth in love
dwelleth in God,
and God
in him.
Herein is our love
made perfect,
that we
may have boldness
in the day
of judgment:
because as he is,
so are
we in this world.
There is
no fear in love;
but perfect
love
casteth out fear:
because
fear hath torment.
He that
feareth
is not made
perfect
in love.
And the nations
were angry,
and thy wrath
is come,
and the time
of the dead,
that they
should be judged,
and
that thou
shouldest give
reward unto thy servants
the prophets,
and
to the saints,
and
them that fear thy name,
small
and great;
and shouldest destroy them which
destroy the earth.
Saying
with a loud voice,
Fear God,
and give
glory to him;
for the hour
of his judgment
is come:
and worship him
that made heaven,
and earth,
and the sea,
and the fountains
of waters.
And a voice
came
out of the throne,
saying,
Praise our God,
all
ye his servants,
and
ye that fear him,
both small
and great.
