And Adam said,
This is now bone
of my bones,
and flesh
of my flesh:
she shall be called Woman,
because
she
was taken out of Man.
Therefore shall
a man
leave his father
and his mother,
and shall cleave
unto his wife:
and
they shall be
one flesh.
Unto the woman
he said,
I will greatly multiply
thy sorrow
and thy conception;
in sorrow
thou shalt bring forth children;
and thy
desire
shall be
to thy husband,
and
he shall rule
over thee.
For I
know him,
that he
will command
his children
and his household
after him,
and
they shall keep
the way
of the LORD,
to do justice
and judgment;
that the LORD
may bring
upon Abraham
that which
he hath spoken of him.
Then Jacob
said
unto his household,
and
to all
that were with him,
Put
away the strange gods
that are among you,
and be clean,
and change
your garments:
So he
sent
his brethren away,
and
they departed:
and
he said unto them,
See that
ye fall not out
by the way.
So shall
ye say
unto Joseph, Forgive,
I pray thee now,
the trespass
of thy brethren,
and their sin;
for they
did unto thee evil:
and now,
we pray thee,
forgive the trespass
of the servants
of the God of thy father.
And Joseph
wept
when
they
spake unto him.
And his brethren
also went
and fell down
before his face;
and they said,
Behold,
we be
thy servants.
And Joseph
said unto them,
Fear not:
for am
I in the place
of God?
But as for you,
ye thought evil
against me;
but God
meant it
unto good,
to bring to pass,
as it is this day,
to save much people alive.
Now therefore
fear
ye not:
I will nourish you,
and your little ones.
And
he comforted them,
and
spake kindly unto them.
Only take
heed to thyself,
and keep
thy soul diligently,
lest
thou forget
the things
which thine
eyes
have seen,
and lest
they depart
from thy heart
all the days
of thy life:
but teach them
thy sons,
and thy sons' sons;
Specially the day
that thou
stoodest before the LORD
thy God in Horeb,
when the LORD
said unto me,
Gather me
the people
together,
and
I will make them
hear my words,
that they
may learn
to fear me all
the days
that they
shall live
upon the earth,
and
that they
may teach
their children.
And
thou shalt bestow
that money
for whatsoever
thy soul
lusteth after,
for oxen,
or for sheep,
or for wine,
or for strong drink,
or for whatsoever
thy soul desireth:
and
thou shalt eat there
before the LORD thy God,
and
thou shalt rejoice,
thou,
and thine household,
Lest
there should be
among you man,
or woman,
or family,
or tribe,
whose heart
turneth away
this day
from the LORD our God,
to go
and serve the gods
of these nations;
lest
there should be
among you
a root
that beareth
gall
and wormwood;
And
if it
seem evil
unto you
to serve the LORD,
choose you this day whom
ye will serve;
whether the gods
which your fathers
served
that were on the other side
of the flood,
or the gods
of the Amorites,
in whose land
ye dwell:
but as for me and
my house,
we will serve
the LORD.
Then David
returned
to bless his household.
And Michal
the daughter
of Saul
came out
to meet David,
and said,
How glorious
was the king
of Israel to day,
who uncovered himself
to day
in the eyes
of the handmaids
of his servants,
as one
of the vain fellows
shamelessly uncovereth himself!
And
when the king's decree
which he
shall make
shall be published
throughout all his empire,
(for it is great,)
all the wives
shall give
to their husbands honour,
both to great
and small.
For he
sent letters
into all
the king's provinces,
into every province
according to the writing
thereof,
and
to every people
after their language,
that every man
should bear
rule
in his own house,
and
that it
should be published according to
the language
of every people.
And it
was so,
when the days
of their feasting
were gone about,
that Job
sent
and sanctified them,
and rose up early
in the morning,
and offered
burnt offerings
according to
the number
of them all:
for Job said,
It may be
that my sons
have sinned,
and cursed God
in their hearts.
Thus did Job continually.
He that
worketh
deceit
shall not dwell
within my house:
he that
telleth
lies
shall not tarry
in my sight.
Thy wife
shall be as a fruitful vine
by the sides
of thine house:
thy children like olive plants round
about thy table.
Yea,
thou shalt see
thy children's children,
and peace
upon Israel.
Behold,
how good
and how pleasant it
is for brethren
to dwell together
in unity!
She looketh
well to the ways
of her household,
and eateth not
the bread
of idleness.
Pour out thy fury
upon the heathen
that know thee not,
and
upon the families that call
not on thy name:
for they
have eaten
up Jacob,
and devoured him,
and consumed him,
and have made
his habitation desolate.
Then came Peter
to him,
and said,
Lord,
how oft
shall
my brother
sin against me,
and
I forgive him?
till seven times?
Jesus
saith unto him,
I say not
unto thee,
Until seven times:
but,
Until seventy times seven.
Now a certain man
was sick,
named Lazarus,
of Bethany,
the town
of Mary
and her sister Martha.
(It was that Mary
which anointed
the Lord
with ointment,
and wiped
his feet
with her hair,
whose brother Lazarus
was sick.)
Therefore his sisters
sent unto him,
saying,
Lord,
behold,
he whom
thou lovest
is sick.
When Jesus
heard that,
he said,
This sickness
is not
unto death,
but for the glory
of God,
that the Son
of God
might be glorified
thereby.
Now Jesus
loved Martha,
and her sister,
and Lazarus.
A devout man,
and one
that feared God
with all his house,
which gave much alms
to the people,
and prayed
to God alway.
Immediately therefore
I sent to thee;
and
thou hast well done that
thou art come.
Now therefore are
we all here
present
before God,
to hear all
things
that are commanded thee
of God.
And
when
she was baptized,
and her household,
she besought us,
saying,
If ye
have judged me
to be faithful
to the Lord,
come
into my house,
and abide there.
And
she constrained us.
And they said,
Believe
on the Lord Jesus Christ,
and
thou shalt be saved,
and thy house.
And
they spake unto him the word
of the Lord,
and
to all
that were in his house.
And he
took them
the same hour
of the night,
and washed
their stripes;
and was baptized,
he and all his,
straightway.
And
when
he had brought them
into his house,
he set meat
before them,
and rejoiced,
believing
in God
with all his house.
And Crispus,
the chief ruler
of the synagogue,
believed
on the Lord
with all his house;
and many
of the Corinthians hearing believed,
and were baptized.
And unto the married
I command,
yet not I,
but the Lord,
Let not
the wife
depart
from her husband:
For a man
indeed ought not
to cover his head,
forasmuch as he
is the image
and glory of God:
but the woman
is the glory
of the man.
For the man
is not
of the woman:
but the woman
of the man.
Neither was
the man
created for the woman;
but the woman
for the man.
The churches
of Asia salute you.
Aquila
and Priscilla
salute
you much
in the Lord,
with the church
that is
in their house.
Wives,
submit yourselves
unto your own husbands,
as unto the Lord.
For the husband
is the head
of the wife,
even as Christ
is the head
of the church:
and
he is the saviour
of the body.
Therefore as the church
is subject
unto Christ,
so let
the wives
be to their own husbands
in every thing.
Wives,
submit yourselves
unto your own husbands,
as it is fit
in the Lord.
A bishop
then must be blameless,
the husband
of one wife,
vigilant,
sober,
of good behaviour,
given
to hospitality,
apt to teach;
Not given
to wine,
no striker,
not greedy
of filthy lucre;
but patient,
not a brawler,
not covetous;
One that
ruleth well
his own house,
having his children
in subjection
with all gravity;
(For
if a man
know not how
to rule
his own house,
how shall
he take care of
the church
of God?)
Let the deacons
be the husbands
of one wife,
ruling their children
and their own
houses well.
When I
call
to remembrance
the unfeigned faith
that is in thee,
which dwelt first
in thy grandmother Lois,
and thy
mother Eunice;
and
I am persuaded
that in thee also.
Likewise,
ye wives,
be in subjection
to your own husbands;
that,
if any
obey not
the word,
they also may
without the word
be won
by the conversation
of the wives;
Even as Sara
obeyed Abraham,
calling him lord:
whose daughters
ye are,
as long as ye
do well,
and are not afraid
with any amazement.
