And the earth
was without form,
and void;
and darkness
was upon the face
of the deep.
And
the Spirit
of God
moved upon the face
of the waters.
And God
called the light Day,
and the darkness
he called Night.
And the evening
and the morning
were the first day.
And the LORD
said
unto Moses,
Stretch out thine hand
toward heaven,
that there may be darkness
over the land
of Egypt,
even
darkness which
may be felt.
And Moses
stretched
forth his hand
toward heaven;
and there was
a thick darkness
in all the land
of Egypt three days:
And it
came
to pass
on the third day
in the morning,
that there were
thunders
and lightnings,
and a thick cloud
upon the mount,
and the voice
of the trumpet
exceeding loud;
so that
all the people
that
was in the camp trembled.
And the people
stood afar off,
and Moses
drew near
unto the thick darkness
where God was.
He bowed
the heavens also,
and came down;
and darkness
was under his feet.
And
he rode upon a cherub,
and did fly:
and
he was seen upon the wings
of the wind.
And
he made darkness pavilions round
about him, dark waters,
and thick clouds
of the skies.
Then said
Solomon,
The LORD
hath said
that he
would dwell
in the thick darkness.
When I
made
the cloud the garment
thereof,
and thick darkness
a swaddlingband
for it,
He made darkness
his secret place;
his pavilion round
about him were dark waters
and thick clouds
of the skies.
Clouds
and darkness
are round
about him:
righteousness
and judgment
are the habitation
of his throne.
He sent darkness,
and made it dark;
and
they rebelled not
against his word.
Whoso
curseth
his father
or his mother,
his lamp
shall be put out
in obscure darkness.
And
they shall look
unto the earth;
and behold
trouble
and darkness,
dimness
of anguish;
and
they shall be driven
to darkness.
The people that
walked
in darkness
have seen
a great light:
they that
dwell
in the land
of the shadow
of death,
upon them hath
the light shined.
For the stars
of heaven
and the constellations
thereof shall not give
their light:
the sun
shall be darkened
in his going forth,
and the moon
shall not cause
her light
to shine.
And I
will bring
the blind
by a way
that
they knew not;
I will lead them
in paths that
they have not known:
I will make
darkness
light
before them,
and crooked things straight.
These things
will
I do unto them,
and not forsake them.
I form the light,
and create darkness:
I make peace,
and create evil:
I the LORD
do all
these things.
Who is among you
that feareth the LORD,
that obeyeth the voice
of his servant,
that walketh in darkness,
and hath
no light?
let him
trust in the name
of the LORD,
and stay
upon his God.
I beheld
the earth,
and,
lo,
it was without form,
and void;
and the heavens,
and they
had no light.
For this
shall
the earth mourn,
and the heavens above
be black;
because
I have spoken it,
I have purposed it,
and will not repent,
neither will
I turn
back from it.
Give
glory
to the LORD your God,
before he
cause darkness,
and before your feet
stumble
upon the dark mountains,
and,
while ye
look for light,
he turn it
into the shadow
of death,
and make it gross darkness.
He hath led me,
and brought me
into darkness,
but not into light.
And
when
I shall put thee out,
I will cover
the heaven,
and make
the stars thereof dark;
I will cover the sun
with a cloud,
and the moon
shall not give
her light.
All
the bright lights
of heaven
will
I make dark
over thee,
and set
darkness upon thy land,
saith the Lord GOD.
A day
of darkness
and of gloominess,
a day of clouds
and of thick darkness,
as the morning spread
upon the mountains:
a great people and a strong;
there hath not been ever
the like,
neither shall be any more
after it,
even to the years
of many generations.
The earth
shall quake
before them;
the heavens
shall tremble:
the sun
and the moon
shall be dark,
and the stars
shall withdraw
their shining:
For, lo,
he that
formeth the mountains,
and createth the wind,
and declareth unto man
what is his thought,
that maketh the morning darkness,
and treadeth
upon the high places
of the earth,
The LORD,
The God of hosts,
is his name.
Woe unto you
that desire
the day
of the LORD!
to what
end
is it for you?
the day
of the LORD
is darkness,
and not light.
Shall not
the day
of the LORD
be darkness,
and not light?
even very dark,
and no brightness in it?
And it
shall come
to pass
in that day,
saith the Lord GOD,
that I
will cause
the sun
to go down
at noon,
and I
will darken
the earth
in the clear day:
Rejoice not against me,
O mine enemy:
when I fall,
I shall arise;
when I sit
in darkness,
the LORD
shall be a light
unto me.
The people which
sat in darkness
saw great light;
and to them which
sat
in the region
and shadow
of death
light
is sprung up.
The light
of the body
is the eye:
if therefore
thine eye
be single,
thy whole body
shall be
full of light.
But if thine
eye
be evil,
thy whole body
shall be
full of darkness.
If therefore
the light
that is in thee
be darkness,
how great
is that darkness!
Immediately after the tribulation
of those days
shall
the sun
be darkened,
and the moon
shall not give
her light,
and the stars
shall fall
from heaven,
and the powers
of the heavens
shall be shaken:
Now from the sixth hour
there was darkness
over all
the land
unto the ninth hour.
But in those days,
after that tribulation,
the sun
shall be darkened,
and the moon
shall not give
her light,
And
when the sixth hour
was come,
there was
darkness
over the whole
land until
the ninth hour.
To give
light to them
that sit
in darkness
and in the shadow
of death,
to guide our feet
into the way
of peace.
The light
of the body
is the eye:
therefore when thine
eye
is single,
thy whole body
also is
full of light;
but
when thine
eye
is evil,
thy body
also is
full of darkness.
When
I was daily
with you
in the temple,
ye stretched
forth no hands
against me:
but this
is your hour,
and the power
of darkness.
And the sun
was darkened,
and
the veil
of the temple
was rent
in the midst.
And the light
shineth in darkness;
and the darkness
comprehended it not.
And this
is the condemnation,
that light
is come
into the world,
and men
loved
darkness rather than light,
because
their deeds were evil.
For every one
that
doeth
evil hateth the light,
neither cometh to the light,
lest
his deeds
should be reproved.
But
he that
doeth truth
cometh to the light,
that his deeds
may be made manifest,
that they
are wrought
in God.
Then spake Jesus
again unto them,
saying,
I am the light
of the world:
he that
followeth me
shall not walk
in darkness,
but shall have
the light
of life.
Jesus answered,
Are
there not twelve hours
in the day?
If any man
walk
in the day,
he stumbleth not,
because
he seeth
the light
of this world.
To open their eyes,
and
to turn them
from darkness
to light,
and
from the power
of Satan
unto God,
that they
may receive forgiveness
of sins,
and inheritance
among them which
are sanctified
by faith
that is in me.
Because that,
when
they knew God,
they glorified him not
as God,
neither were thankful;
but became vain
in their imaginations,
and their foolish heart
was darkened.
The night
is far spent,
the day
is at hand:
let us
therefore cast
off the works
of darkness,
and let us
put on the armour
of light.
Let us
walk honestly,
as in the day;
not in rioting
and drunkenness,
not in chambering
and wantonness,
not in strife
and envying.
Therefore judge nothing
before the time,
until the Lord come,
who both
will bring
to light
the hidden things
of darkness,
and will make
manifest the counsels
of the hearts:
and then
shall
every man
have
praise
of God.
For God,
who commanded the light
to shine out of darkness,
hath shined
in our hearts,
to give the light
of the knowledge
of the glory
of God
in the face
of Jesus Christ.
Be ye
not unequally yoked
together
with unbelievers:
for what fellowship
hath righteousness
with unrighteousness?
and
what communion
hath light
with darkness?
For ye
were sometimes
darkness,
but now are
ye light
in the Lord:
walk as children
of light:
For we
wrestle not
against flesh
and blood,
but against principalities,
against powers,
against the rulers
of the darkness
of this world,
against spiritual wickedness
in high places.
Who hath delivered us
from the power
of darkness,
and hath translated us
into the kingdom
of his dear Son:
But ye,
brethren,
are not
in darkness,
that that day
should overtake you
as a thief.
Ye are all the children
of light,
and the children
of the day:
we are not
of the night,
nor
of darkness.
For ye are not come
unto the mount
that might be touched,
and that
burned
with fire,
nor
unto blackness,
and darkness,
and tempest,
But
ye are a chosen generation,
a royal priesthood,
an holy nation,
a peculiar people;
that ye
should shew
forth the praises
of him
who hath called
you out of darkness
into his marvellous light;
This
then is the message
which we
have heard of him,
and declare
unto you,
that God
is light,
and
in him is no darkness
at all.
If we
say that
we have fellowship
with him,
and walk
in darkness,
we lie,
and do not
the truth:
But
if we
walk
in the light,
as he
is in the light,
we have fellowship one
with another,
and the blood
of Jesus Christ
his Son
cleanseth us
from all sin.
Again,
a new commandment
I write unto you,
which thing
is true
in him and
in you:
because
the darkness
is past,
and the true light
now shineth.
He that
saith
he is in the light,
and hateth his brother,
is in darkness
even until now.
He that
loveth
his brother abideth
in the light,
and there is none
occasion
of stumbling in him.
But
he that
hateth his brother
is in darkness,
and walketh in darkness,
and knoweth not whither
he goeth,
because
that darkness
hath blinded
his eyes.
And the fourth angel sounded,
and
the third part
of the sun
was smitten,
and the third part
of the moon,
and the third part
of the stars;
so as the third part
of them was darkened,
and the day
shone not
for a third part of it,
and the night likewise.
And
he opened
the bottomless pit;
and there arose
a smoke
out of the pit,
as the smoke
of a great furnace;
and the sun
and the air
were darkened
by reason
of the smoke
of the pit.
And the fifth angel
poured
out his vial
upon the seat
of the beast;
and his kingdom
was full of darkness;
and they
gnawed
their tongues
for pain,
