And
when Abram
was
ninety years old
and nine,
the LORD
appeared
to Abram,
and
said unto him,
I am the Almighty God;
walk before me,
and be
thou perfect.
Then Jacob
said
unto his household,
and
to all
that were with him,
Put
away the strange gods
that are among you,
and be clean,
and change
your garments:
And
ye shall be
unto me a kingdom
of priests,
and an holy nation.
These are the words which
thou shalt speak
unto the children
of Israel.
And
ye shall be holy men
unto me:
neither shall
ye eat any flesh
that is torn
of beasts
in the field;
ye shall cast it
to the dogs.
And that
ye may put difference
between holy
and unholy,
and between unclean
and clean;
For I
am the LORD
your God:
ye shall therefore sanctify yourselves,
and
ye shall be holy;
for I
am holy:
neither shall
ye defile yourselves
with any manner
of creeping thing
that creepeth
upon the earth.
For I
am the LORD
that bringeth you up
out of the land
of Egypt,
to be your God:
ye shall therefore be holy,
for I
am holy.
And
ye shall be holy
unto me:
for I
the LORD
am holy,
and have severed you
from other people,
that ye
should be mine.
For thou art
an holy people
unto the LORD thy God,
and the LORD
hath chosen thee
to be a peculiar people
unto himself,
above all
the nations
that are upon the earth.
Thou shalt be
perfect with the LORD
thy God.
The LORD
shall establish thee
an holy people
unto himself,
as he
hath sworn
unto thee,
if thou
shalt keep
the commandments
of the LORD thy God,
and walk
in his ways.
And shalt return
unto the LORD thy God,
and shalt obey
his voice
according to all
that
I command thee
this day,
thou
and thy children,
with all thine heart,
and
with all thy soul;
If thou
shalt hearken
unto the voice
of the LORD thy God,
to keep
his commandments
and his statutes
which are written in this book
of the law,
and
if thou
turn
unto the LORD thy God
with all thine heart,
and
with all thy soul.
Up,
sanctify the people,
and say,
Sanctify yourselves
against
to morrow:
for thus
saith the LORD God
of Israel,
There
is
an accursed thing
in the midst
of thee,
O Israel:
thou canst
not stand
before thine enemies,
until ye
take away
the accursed thing from
among you.
And
thou shalt know
that thy tabernacle
shall be
in peace;
and
thou shalt visit
thy habitation,
and shalt not sin.
And unto man
he said,
Behold,
the fear
of the LORD,
that is wisdom;
and
to depart
from evil
is understanding.
Take heed,
regard not iniquity:
for this
hast
thou chosen rather than
affliction.
Stand in awe,
and sin not:
commune
with your own heart
upon your bed,
and be still.
Selah.
Blessed is the man
unto whom
the LORD
imputeth not
iniquity,
and
in whose spirit
there is no guile.
Depart from evil,
and do good;
and dwell
for evermore.
Truly God
is good
to Israel,
even to
such as are
of a clean heart.
Righteousness
shall go
before him;
and shall set us
in the way
of his steps.
But judgment
shall return
unto righteousness:
and all
the upright
in heart
shall follow it.
Ye that love
the LORD,
hate evil:
he preserveth the souls
of his saints;
he delivereth them out of the
hand
of the wicked.
Blessed are the undefiled
in the way,
who walk
in the law
of the LORD.
Blessed
are
they that
keep
his testimonies,
and
that seek him
with the whole heart.
They also do
no iniquity:
they walk
in his ways.
The desire
of the righteous
is only good:
but
the expectation
of the wicked
is wrath.
The thoughts
of the righteous
are right:
but the counsels
of the wicked
are deceit.
The highway
of the upright
is to depart
from evil:
he that
keepeth
his way
preserveth his soul.
A GOOD name
is rather
to be chosen
than great riches,
and loving
favour
rather than silver
and gold.
And
the work
of righteousness
shall be peace;
and the effect
of righteousness quietness
and assurance
for ever.
And an highway
shall be there,
and a way,
and it
shall be called The way
of holiness;
the unclean
shall not pass
over it;
but it
shall be
for those:
the wayfaring men,
though fools,
shall not err
therein.
Hearken unto me,
ye that
know
righteousness,
the people
in whose heart
is my law;
fear
ye not
the reproach
of men,
neither be
ye afraid
of their revilings.
I will greatly rejoice
in the LORD,
my soul
shall be joyful
in my God;
for he
hath clothed me
with the garments
of salvation,
he hath covered me
with the robe
of righteousness,
as a bridegroom decketh himself
with ornaments,
and
as a bride adorneth herself
with her jewels.
For as the earth
bringeth forth her bud,
and as the garden
causeth
the things
that are sown in it
to spring forth;
so the Lord GOD
will cause righteousness
and praise
to spring forth
before all the nations.
He hath shewed thee,
O man,
what is good;
and what
doth
the LORD
require of thee,
but to do justly,
and to love mercy,
and
to walk humbly
with thy God?
Seek ye
the LORD,
all
ye meek
of the earth,
which have wrought
his judgment;
seek righteousness,
seek meekness:
it may be
ye shall be
hid in the day
of the LORD's anger.
Blessed
are
they which
do hunger
and thirst
after righteousness:
for they
shall be filled.
Blessed are the pure
in heart:
for they
shall see God.
Be ye
therefore perfect,
even as
your Father
which is in heaven
is perfect.
Either make
the tree good,
and his fruit good;
or else
make the tree corrupt,
and his fruit corrupt:
for the tree
is known
by his fruit.
Salt is good:
but
if the salt
have lost
his saltness,
wherewith will
ye season it?
Have salt
in yourselves,
and have peace one
with another.
A good man
out of the good treasure
of his heart
bringeth forth that which
is good;
and an evil man
out of the evil treasure
of his heart
bringeth forth that
which is evil:
for of the abundance
of the heart
his mouth speaketh.
Jesus saw Nathanael
coming
to him,
and saith of him,
Behold an Israelite indeed,
in whom is no guile!
If ye
were of the world,
the world
would love
his own:
but
because
ye are not
of the world,
but
I have chosen you
out of the world,
therefore the world
hateth you.
I in them,
and
thou in me,
that
they may be made
perfect in one;
and
that the world
may know that
thou hast sent me,
and hast loved them,
as thou
hast loved me.
And herein do
I exercise myself,
to have always
a conscience void
to offence
toward God,
and toward men.
But
he is a Jew,
which is
one inwardly;
and circumcision
is
that of the heart,
in the spirit,
and
not in the letter;
whose praise
is not of men,
but of God.
Knowing this,
that our old man
is crucified with him,
that the body
of sin
might be destroyed,
that henceforth
we should not serve sin.
Likewise
reckon
ye also
yourselves
to be dead
indeed unto sin,
but alive
unto God
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Let not
sin
therefore
reign
in your mortal body,
that ye
should obey it
in the lusts
thereof.
Neither yield
ye your members
as instruments
of unrighteousness
unto sin:
but yield yourselves
unto God,
as those
that are alive
from the dead,
and your members
as instruments
of righteousness
unto God.
For sin
shall not have dominion
over you:
for ye
are not
under the law,
but under grace.
What then?
shall
we sin,
because
we are not
under the law,
but under grace?
God forbid.
Know ye not,
that to whom
ye yield yourselves servants
to obey,
his servants
ye are
to whom ye obey;
whether of sin
unto death,
or of obedience
unto righteousness?
But God
be thanked,
that ye
were the servants
of sin,
but
ye have obeyed
from the heart that form
of doctrine which
was delivered you.
Being
then made free
from sin,
ye became
the servants
of righteousness.
I speak
after the manner
of men
because
of the infirmity
of your flesh:
for as ye
have yielded
your members servants
to uncleanness
and to iniquity
unto iniquity;
even so now yield
your members servants
to righteousness
unto holiness.
For when
ye were the servants
of sin,
ye were
free
from righteousness.
What fruit
had ye
then
in those things
whereof
ye are now ashamed?
for the end
of those things
is death.
But now being made
free
from sin,
and become servants
to God,
ye have
your fruit
unto holiness,
and the end
everlasting life.
For the wages
of sin
is death;
but
the gift
of God
is eternal life
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
But
now
we are delivered
from the law,
that being dead
wherein we
were held;
that we
should serve in newness
of spirit,
and
not in the oldness
of the letter.
There is therefore now
no condemnation
to them
which are in Christ Jesus,
who walk not
after the flesh,
but after the Spirit.
I beseech you
therefore,
brethren,
by the mercies
of God,
that ye
present
your bodies a living sacrifice,
holy,
acceptable
unto God,
which is your reasonable service.
And be not conformed
to this world:
but be
ye transformed
by the renewing
of your mind,
that ye
may prove
what is that good,
and acceptable,
and perfect,
will of God.
Let love
be without dissimulation.
Abhor
that which
is evil;
cleave to that which
is good.
The night
is far spent,
the day
is at hand:
let us
therefore cast
off the works
of darkness,
and let us
put on the armour
of light.
Let us
walk honestly,
as in the day;
not in rioting
and drunkenness,
not in chambering
and wantonness,
not in strife
and envying.
But put
ye on the Lord Jesus Christ,
and make not provision
for the flesh,
to fulfil the lusts
thereof.
For the kingdom
of God
is not meat
and drink;
but righteousness,
and peace,
and joy
in the Holy Ghost.
For your obedience
is come abroad
unto all men.
I am glad
therefore on your behalf:
but yet
I would have
you wise
unto that which
is good,
and simple concerning evil.
Know
ye not
that ye
are the temple
of God,
and
that the Spirit
of God
dwelleth in you?
If any man
defile the temple
of God,
him shall
God destroy;
for the temple
of God
is holy,
which temple
ye are.
For ye
are bought
with a price:
therefore glorify God
in your body,
and
in your spirit,
which are God's.
But
when ye
sin so
against the brethren,
and wound
their weak conscience,
ye sin
against Christ.
Ye cannot drink the cup
of the Lord,
and the cup
of devils:
ye cannot be partakers
of the Lord's table,
and of the table
of devils.
Awake
to righteousness,
and sin not;
for some
have not the knowledge
of God:
I speak this
to your shame.
Having therefore
these promises,
dearly beloved,
let us
cleanse ourselves
from all filthiness
of the flesh
and spirit,
perfecting holiness
in the fear
of God.
Casting
down imaginations,
and every high thing
that exalteth itself against the knowledge
of God,
and bringing
into captivity every thought
to the obedience
of Christ;
Now
I pray to God
that
ye do no evil;
not that
we should appear approved,
but that ye
should do
that which
is honest,
though we
be as reprobates.
And they
that
are Christ's
have crucified
the flesh
with the affections
and lusts.
For in Christ Jesus neither
circumcision
availeth any thing,
nor uncircumcision,
but a new creature.
According as he
hath chosen us
in him
before the foundation
of the world,
that we
should be holy
and
without blame
before him
in love:
That ye put off concerning
the former conversation
the old man,
which is
corrupt
according to
the deceitful lusts;
And be renewed
in the spirit
of your mind;
And
that ye put on
the new man,
which after God
is created
in righteousness
and true holiness.
But fornication,
and all uncleanness,
or covetousness,
let it
not be once named
among you,
as becometh saints;
For ye
were sometimes
darkness,
but now are
ye light
in the Lord:
walk as children
of light:
That ye
may be
blameless
and harmless,
the sons of God,
without rebuke,
in the midst
of a crooked
and perverse nation,
among whom
ye shine
as lights
in the world;
Finally,
brethren,
whatsoever things
are true,
whatsoever things
are honest,
whatsoever things
are just,
whatsoever things
are pure,
whatsoever things
are lovely,
whatsoever
things are of good report;
if there be any virtue,
and if
there be
any praise,
think
on these things.
In the body
of his flesh
through death,
to present
you holy
and unblameable
and unreproveable
in his sight:
That ye
would walk worthy
of God,
who hath called you
unto his kingdom
and glory.
For God
hath not called us
unto uncleanness,
but unto holiness.
Abstain
from all appearance
of evil.
For bodily exercise
profiteth little:
but godliness
is profitable
unto all things,
having
promise
of the life
that now is,
and of that which
is to come.
Lay hands
suddenly
on no man,
neither be partaker
of other men's sins:
keep thyself pure.
But godliness
with contentment
is great gain.
But thou,
O man of God,
flee these things;
and follow
after righteousness,
godliness,
faith,
love,
patience,
meekness.
Fight the good fight
of faith,
lay hold on
eternal life,
whereunto
thou art
also called,
and hast professed
a good profession
before many witnesses.
Nevertheless
the foundation
of God
standeth sure,
having this seal,
The Lord
knoweth them
that are his.
And,
Let every one that
nameth the name
of Christ
depart
from iniquity.
Flee also youthful lusts:
but follow
righteousness,
faith,
charity,
peace,
with them that
call on the Lord
out of a pure heart.
That the man
of God
may be perfect,
throughly furnished
unto all good works.
Unto the pure all things
are pure:
but unto them that
are defiled
and unbelieving
is nothing pure;
but
even their mind
and conscience
is defiled.
Teaching us that,
denying ungodliness
and worldly lusts,
we should live soberly,
righteously,
and godly,
in this present world;
Wherefore seeing
we also are compassed about
with so great
a cloud
of witnesses,
let us
lay aside every weight,
and the sin which
doth so easily beset us,
and let us
run
with patience
the race
that is set
before us,
Follow peace
with all men,
and holiness,
without which no man
shall see
the Lord:
Wherefore lay apart all filthiness
and superfluity
of naughtiness,
and receive
with meekness
the engrafted word,
which is able
to save your souls.
Ye adulterers
and adulteresses,
know
ye not
that
the friendship
of the world
is enmity
with God?
whosoever
therefore will be
a friend
of the world
is the enemy
of God.
But as he
which hath called you
is holy,
so be
ye holy
in all manner
of conversation;
Because
it is written,
Be ye holy;
for I
am holy.
Let him eschew evil,
and do good;
let him
seek peace,
and ensue it.
Wherefore,
beloved,
seeing that
ye look for
such things,
be diligent
that
ye may be found
of him
in peace,
without spot,
and blameless.
If we
say that
we have fellowship
with him,
and walk
in darkness,
we lie,
and do not
the truth:
But
if we
walk
in the light,
as he
is in the light,
we have fellowship one
with another,
and the blood
of Jesus Christ
his Son
cleanseth us
from all sin.
But
whoso keepeth his word,
in him verily is
the love
of God perfected:
hereby know
we that
we are in him.
Whosoever
is born of God
doth not commit sin;
for his seed
remaineth in him:
and
he cannot sin,
because
he is born
of God.
For whatsoever is born
of God
overcometh the world:
and this
is the victory
that overcometh the world,
even our faith.
We know
that whosoever
is born
of God
sinneth not;
but he
that is begotten
of God
keepeth himself,
and
that wicked one
toucheth him not.
Beloved,
follow not
that which
is evil,
but that which
is good.
He that
doeth good
is of God:
but he
that
doeth
evil hath not seen God.
And
in their mouth
was found no guile:
for they
are without fault
before the throne
of God.
